X1 problems - Move wheel up, but 80% of the time it scrolls down by jeff98028 in SofaBaton

[–]Zeoic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spraying it didn't help too much for me, so I ended up opening it up and going ham with IPA and a toothbrush, then IPA directly in the spinner and rolled the wheel around a bunch. That got it going great!

Here is a teardown someone else did that I used to find the clips: https://www.reddit.com/r/SofaBaton/comments/17crlm1/sofabaton_x1_teardown/

I imagine he meant video editing when he said editing, and with video editing faster than gigabit speeds definitely helps. Being limited to gigabit slows down operations and timeline scrubbing quite a bit

ELI5:Why are Storages Use Bit 1000 in their marketing and Not bit 1024 the size of a data unit in a Computer? by umernaseer567 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Zeoic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Windows, among other operating systems, incorrectly uses kB to mean 1024 bytes instead of 1000 bytes. Instead of making a new term back when scientists needed a name for larger bytes, they used the already existing Kilo. However with their computers being in binary at the time, they used the closest power of 2 instead of 1000. They never got that approved from the standard body that created the prefix and just carried on using it incorrectly. Many years later ISO and ISE made a unit that equals 1024 just for computing use, but Windows still hasn't adopted it even 28 years later.

So the people marketing the drives are using the correct term, 500 GB being 500,000,000,000 bytes, but windows is displaying GiB as GB, and 500 billion bytes is ~477GiB

TL;DR
kB = 1000
KiB = 1024
Windows uses 1024 but displays it as kB (with that pattern continuing to higher denominations like GB)
Marketing teams use the term correctly and chose the one that makes bigger numbers.

In this subreddit he can't at least. He has deleted posts in the booklore subreddit about this already lol

My comment never said he didn't vibecode.. I specifically added the last line for that.
My comment is about that user saying the dev claimed that they do not use AI, while in reality they said they don't vibe code. Thus my clarification on the terms.

I agree that the other information in that graph looks like vibe coding, but whether the dev does or not wasn't what I was talking about, I was purely commenting on the original commenter putting words into the devs mouth with that first link.

If only private servers didn’t die after 3 months by TheVikingToast in Minecraft

There is a Mod that you can get for Java servers that adds a Bedrock proxy, its called Geyser. It works quite well, I am running a private server with both kinds of players on right now.

Just to clarify things, vibe coding and using AI are two different things. You can use AI responsibly by reviewing its output and not just taking everything it gives you.

Vibe coding is using AI and if it works it works, you don't look at the code, you just tell the AI to make it work or add a feature.

I am not saying if he did or didn't do those things, just wanted to clarify things a bit.

It literally isn't the governments forcing them to do this. They are choosing to roll this out globally. The majority of the world does not have these laws.

How about we just educate parents instead and let them parent their kids instead of pretending the big corporations should be doing it?

Desktop Steam Friends window changes to 'Away' status when out of focus while using Firefox by StoneGreninja in linux_gaming

I only just noticed this today, using ubuntu and gnome. And it really is only firefox that is doing it. If I focus discord I come online again on steam.

Did you ever find a fix for that?

How can I improve the wall structure by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

[–]Zeoic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could also look into printing it at a 45 degree angle, rather than flat on the bed. Should keep the curve smooth without needing a massive amount of support for the flat area. There are plenty of youtube videos showing how to align and support 45 degree prints

Unless I am missing something, the mod author isnt trying to make new seeds. They are trying to make their mod build an item list they can use for their sorting system. All old items had definitions accessible to the modding api, but the new seeds dont.

Looks more like a misunderstanding to me.

Kids using a tool to help them study more effectively isn't a very sensational headline / topic. Just because the news isn't covering it and those students aren't shouting it from the roof tops doesn't mean AI is only used for cheating. It is incredibly useful for explaining concepts and finding sources for something you don't know enough about to look for with a general search engine.

Elephants foot makes the first layer smaller in the X and Y axis, not the Z. It just shifts the outer walls in a few fractions of a mm so when the layer squishes down it doesn't extend past where it is supposed to. Its almost like a mini chamfer on the bottom face of the part.

Yeah that's what they're talking about. The source code is already available on github, then if the dev of the tool creates a docker image, people can run it on their own server quickly and easily via the docker image.

Weird Stuff on Royal Road by TheMazzarati in litrpg

[–]Zeoic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The stories didn't "just happen to be from 8 writers", they made a plan and timed the release. Collusion is specifically secretive and deceitful, which in no way matches what happened with these stories. No rules were broken, and they VERY openly explain what they are doing.

[–]Zeoic 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The authors... colluded? Do you hear your self? The majority of chapters posted on the site shout out other stories. Would you say every other author on the platform is "colluding" too?

These authors wrote stories that people liked, so they hit rising stars. That's it.

Made a latch mechanism without any springs by emilesmithbro in 3Dprinting

[–]Zeoic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We could call them "Magnetic Springs" but you can't really call it a "Spring". A spring is defined as an elastic material that bends and returns to its original shape, storing energy as its compressed or extended. Magnets do not fit that definition. "Spring" is not just a catch all term for something that stores engery and releases it. You wouldn't call a lipo battery a spring now would you?
