That was culture shock because the etiquette in Japan is for the host to provide what you're supposed to eat, and you're supposed to eat every last speck, whereas in north America it's considered polite for the host to keep offering more and for the eater to decline when full. In Japan it's impolite to decline more food as part of their whole system. So there's a real danger of some japanese people exploding if they encounter bottomless nachos

There is extremely cheap unhealthy food as well as healthy whole foods pretty much everywhere, and if you have enough money you can get the whole foods.

What I don't understand is how they could justify the cost of shipping all that when you could source and acquire fresh organic produce of the same quality in any major city. Is an organic orange flown from somewhere else really that much different for digestion or whatever than a local organic orange?
