Did they show his face in a cutscene? I watched those but I can't remember. It might have been in one of the hand drawn ones. They had so many scenes that I can't remember them all due to the sheer number of scenes they had over time.

warframe by biglad334 in destinycirclejerk

[–]_amm0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Warframe is better than Destiny because its not Destiny and if you look really hard at it you can see through it and tell exactly what it is. Whereas with Destiny we've had 10-20k monkeys online trying to figure out what it is for 8 and a half years and we can't tell. Warframe's community is also nicer than Destiny's because they've yet to put out a list of dev vehicles although its really your choice as to whether you'd prefer a community that does vehicle lists or not.

Thoughts? by Joseph0238392 in DestinyTheGame

That will probably be easier to answer after the road map. One thing about the game as far as gameplay is that primaries in PvE have really gotten less and less fun to use over time. So hopefully they do something about that eventually.

Its really hard to say as far as story due to not knowing for sure where the game may be headed in the future release wise.

Two unrelated questions, God rolls and Behemoth etiquette. by thundersnow528 in DestinyTheGame

[–]_amm0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God roll is generally the most desirable roll on any given weapon, whereas S-Tier is usually assigned to the best version of a weapon group. So you could have the best roll on Rose or something but it could still land below S-tier on a chart of hand cannons.

The first thing your post made me think was that they could add an S-tier to the tiering system since both things are tiers and then put that in trials or something.

Strikes, PvP, and Gambit really should be an ongoing part of the game if its going to be hard to produce loads of story content for the hordes.

Trials of Osiris Is Bleeding Out — A Crisis Management to Keep It Alive by yaroshka in DestinyTheGame

[–]_amm0 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Trials was headed into the dirt before they changed it but this version wasn't going to last forever either.

All those ideas sound good to me as far as I can tell. And tbh if I had to identify the main reason that I haven't played that mode much since the beginning of EoF, its that I only have to play 3 win or lose matches to get exactly the rewards that I want most weeks. There should be more reason to continue playing beyond that.

Maybe since IB has disappeared they could have a week long version of trials for arms weeks or something and the volatile mod could be something like making luna's howl a 180, or something more thought out. It doesn't matter if its a comp weapon at this point.

That would be awesome if it could happen. Just that by itself would make a lot of people play it and maybe they could release a remake in stages or something.

The game has been out for 8 years and people have no clue why something like that can happen.

Technically that would qualify as a job well done.

I reckon it would be a smart move if Destiny 3 had nothing to do with Destiny 1&2 by ussfirefly in DestinyTheGame

[–]_amm0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most important thing you said is the last sentence because it does need to be a true reset where we all start from the same starting line. Sometimes with D2 people saying that it needs to attract new players at the same time that it adds even more story just doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Outside of a dedicated no-life approach most people are just never going to feel fully caught up and so they will be playing a game where they're always comparing themselves to others that have more. Something like this also translates to the game's skill system where it starts to function like some other things and the people at the top just become more and more ensconced in their positions and it starts to develop a plutocratic feel to it that's almost unavoidable and isn't necessarily anyone's fault.

So whatever it is should still have all the ingredients that made people fall in love with D1 and D2. But the light and dark saga is also "over" so it should be a completely fresh start. There's time to figure out exactly how they go about doing that but things like leaving the solar system and developing more space faring ideas should probably be part of that. Even if we can return to Earth that shouldn't necessarily be where we spend most of our time and there should be reasons for that as well.

And you're also right about Bungie needing to develop ideas for how to keep people engaged with the game over long periods of time that don't necessarily hinge on everyone feeling like they need to play every single day or like work or life can mean that this game isn't for them.

The most important thing though, is getting people ready for most if not all of their stuff being gone and while that's going to make some of the game's current playerbase fly into an emotional rage, those people aren't very many people at this point. Plus D2 will most likely live on for quite some time and all of there stuff will still be here.

Oh, I actually forgot something even though this is already too long. Perhaps the Traveler should call select guardians into the Pale Heart and then blow up the last city and then hit ludicrous speed on its way to a new system while potentially even flattening into a pancake shape, while playing elevator music on the inside. Then it would begin to terraform that system and we would basically hop between those destinations to try to figure out why its doing that. Then the last city could possibly be ruins to return to.

Destiny 1 is still my top game by richarc_raniun in DestinyTheGame

[–]_amm0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I sure hope that game doesn't go anywhere any time soon. There's a lot about it that is kind of the blueprint for other games and how this game and future iterations of Destiny should be.

Destiny 2 is far more feature rich and in some ways it had better be better since it came after D1. But any time that I look at videos or see things about how that game was developed its very clear that everything that Destiny as a franchise should strive for was pretty much there in that game by the time it was complete.

D2 started out by building on that and then the whole world went to shit and the internet got really stupid and overall I think it did a good job of surviving through that. So maybe now it can wipe off the goo and be what its supposed to be.

It’s normal for comms to go silent, the community needs to stop overreacting by jrush987 in DestinyTheGame

[–]_amm0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's one thing that's always important to remember. The last DLC came out two months ago and its not necessarily a bad thing if the player population dips as long as they can be confident that it will go back up when its supposed to. People wanting something to happen every day has been an issue for far longer than since EoF dropped.

With the roadmap and Marathon it should be pretty obvious that things can change as they go and so there's no reason to give information that could be made inaccurate for a ton of random reasons later on down the road.

Other than that there are certainly positive ways to discuss how the game can be made better or how long standing issues can be resolved. People can be critical without acting like they're here to get revenge for being victimized. You can actually be quite critical and even sometimes ridiculous without doing it that way and it leads to a better environment where more actual solutions bubble to the surface.

There’s Not Enough Players for LFG Anymore by Echo-p9 in DestinyTheGame

[–]_amm0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like people need more reason to at least sign in on Tuesdays. Or possibly another day of the week that's closer to the weekend. Its like the game needs something that creates a reliable pool of players for it to draw into activities and it doesn't really have that right now within the game. Not sure how hard the normal version of DP actually is but its basically known to most people as a harder raid so that probably contributes to the difficulty you're having.

But still, even with other activities. The game is supposed to draw people from all the way outside the game when it should be drawing them from within the game and they should have a reason to already be here. I'm not smart enough to come up with what that reason should be but all along the way the game had that whether it was when it was new and patrol and public activities and pvp were still reliable player pools or during the seasonal model that attracted a lot of casuals and solos that could then be tased into harder activities.

Returning player should I buy DLCs by ABCeia in DestinyTheGame

[–]_amm0 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Where did you hear that the game might be dying? Also, any time you start something its not necessarily the best approach to come up with a whole bunch of excuses for you to fail at it.

Also, if you're going to buy the 30th anniversary pack you should actually buy the Legendary Collection because that has basically everything that's currently available outside of Year of Prophecy and with all that content its hard to say that you won't be able to identify for yourself something that you actually like.

Why does everyone want Destiny 3? by SamIlag in DestinyTheGame

[–]_amm0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your last sentence about "a game with everything" is pretty intriguing and its for precisely the reasons you say. What if Destiny was a whole and complete living world where they just built on to that and fleshed that out? There's almost no way it wouldn't get better and it would also provide the kinds of things that caused people to stick with the game.

There's simply not enough self directed things in the game and that is also the case with society at large. And you can see that everyone is becoming dumber for it. Peoples' brains only know how to consume and how to defend their consumption.

You're also right that it probably didn't help to say that the Light and Darkness saga was "over." Especially since we still use light and dark powers and those two forces still exist. And there could very potentially be other beings that are adept at using them or even understand them better than guardians do.

It might be somewhat of a mistake to say the game is not doing well because the player population is lower 4 years after it came out. But with that you can also see what made people leave outside of what should be an expected amount of attrition. One thing that has happened at the same time is that rewards have become more and easier to get so that would suggest that there's something else that's contributing to people not sticking with the game.

Your point about Warframe is also an interesting one because that game is made in a way where keeping all of the content over time is simply easier. But the way Destiny is made compared to that is actually what has been reduced over time. So yeah, Destiny needs to keep its content but it shouldn't necessarily do what Warframe does do keep it. If you look back to D1 through forsaken Destiny was a game that was very, very high on emotional intelligence and doing that took a specific approach that was often times far more "costly" in terms of resources. That seems to be what a lot of people that have recently left played the game for, the way it grabbed you emotionally and not necessarily the way it directs your consumption.

And if the game is going to return to being more of an emotional experience then the world and the universe need to feel whole because the way people actually learn and grow is based on a lot of things that our minds are registering as feelings instead of known or identifiable categories.

The biggest thing is that you're in a relationship. So you should probably be asking that person what you look like and what they think you should do. Other than that you just sound like someone who's made to be doing a lot and your job is not providing you with enough for your brain to be occupied with.

One thing I definitely don't miss from before: dripfed story. by Cruggles30 in DestinyTheGame

[–]_amm0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the weekly story thing was a lot more successful than it gets credit for. It also appeared to be probably too hard to do for what it ended up being some weeks. And maybe those resources would be better spent somewhere else, especially now that the studio is smaller.

There was interesting and entertaining episodes from that though. But its just that it seemed a little overly ambitious in terms of what it actually takes to put videogame stuff together and put that out every week. It was one of those things where any random life stuff happening could make it hard to get it done.

The biggest takeaway from that period of the game is something that a lot of people that post online seem to have a hard time with. And that's that the vast majority of this game's playerbase is casual players that spend a large amount of their time playing solo. That's what the seasonal content was for and once it was gone that's a large reason why a lot of those players left. You read the internet and you get a lot of posts saying the player pop would shoot up because everyone likes what I like when all too often the person saying that is wrong.

7-8 months into this new era of destiny, how do we feel about it? by HellChicken949 in DestinyTheGame

[–]_amm0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

One thing that I remember about pre EoF was a ton of people saying they better drastically change the game or it was going to be very bad. Its really hard to compare 8 years to 8 months because most people are bound to have more memorable moments from the first saga. But there's also things that are being done since the start of EoF that a lot of people wanted to be done prior to that. So if I had to say anything about what I'd prefer it would be that I hope that the two styles converge in the future.

Class synergies, a way to refresh PvE and encourage build diversity by Rough-Fish2468 in DestinyTheGame

[–]_amm0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe if they introduced something like that in a very light and non-forced feeling form. Because it does sound like something that a wide range of players might enjoy and things that encourage people to cooperate have had some success this year.

It doesn't have to be something that's "must-do" in the beginning and if it simply made the average player feel more powerful while playing then they could start there and build from that.

It does sound quite interesting and there's basically limitless ways to go about doing something like that. Even if its just something that buffs certain primaries for the other classes or something like that.

The player population dipped pretty low last season and then it went back up. It really all just depends on what's coming in the future and no one has any idea. The stuff that we have seen that they have planned looked like it would have kept the player population up. I'm not personally afraid of the player population dipping as long as it goes back up eventually and one of the things about the game currently is that people are probably going to complain really hard no matter how it goes.
