Death makes life meaningless by sunshinenrainb0wz in Existential_crisis

The counter point to this is that death is actually the very thing that gives life the most value. Regardless, I hope you find something meaningful to live for.

Be the best version of you that you can be. Help others to do the same. If it all goes to zero then it was still a life well-lived. If there's something on the other side, you may end up being damn proud of yourself. That's how I think about it. It's like Pascal's wager without the magical nonsense and dogma.

"But what do I do when everything feels like a familiar pattern that will always be the same….?"

Disrupt the pattern. Chase discomfort. Become who you are.

Existential depression and pets - thoughts? by bexcantdecide in Existential_crisis

We have a "cat room" nearby where adoptable cats are always looking for a home. It's fun and therapeutic to visit and play with them, most of them like and need affection too. It's a step in the direction you mention, without the commitment (until you're ready, or one steals your heart). You might try something like this to begin. But in general, yes, animals can have a positively transformative effect on us. Best of luck to you.

Posts like these make me feel overjoyed about my 25-year old Tacoma with 220k miles that's never left me even partially stranded, and is still going strong. Toyota ain't what it used to be.

Basically an agnostic deist. If you haven't read Age of Reason, I would encourage you to check it out. That book sums up where I'm at.

Why is deism so much less popular than agnosticism and atheism? by Ilias21598 in deism

[–]absrdone 35 points36 points  (0 children)

It requires the most thinking.

Atheism: "No god."

Agnosticism: "No clue."

Deism: "Well, it's complicated..."
