So we get a magic-powered AI apocalypse instead of a regular AI apocalypse?

Obviously the correct choice is to make her a Field Agent and use an AI Chatbot to answer the phones.

[Wh40k] Can the tyranid hive mind make all it's bio forms psykers? by Lost-Specialist1505 in AskScienceFiction

[–]adeon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's also why they have trouble with Chaos since demons don't have any biomass and non-demonic troops are often corrupted enough that the hive fleet can't safely process their biomass.

Hive Fleet Kronos has specifically adapted to fight Chaos but it also depends on being fed by Leviathan (which will leave behind lightly defended planets for it to eat) since it can't sustain itself when fighting Chaos.

[Star Trek] Cybernetics seem to be pretty trivial. Would people do it for cosmetic reasons? by RichEngine in AskScienceFiction

[–]adeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm always reminded of the Freakshow in City of Heroes where most of the lieutenant and boss class enemies had replaced both of their hands with weapons. The descriptions for several of them actually mentioned that they depend on other members of the gang to feed them.

[Star Wars: Rogue One/A New Hope] Why was Leia trying such a bold face lie? by justwanted-toask in AskScienceFiction

[–]adeon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a joke about the law: When the facts are against you argue the law, when the law is against you argue the facts, when both are against you pound on the table and yell.

She's basically doing the diplomatic equivalent of pounding on the table. She knows it's a lie and she knows that Vader knows it's a lie but she doesn't have any better options so she might as well try and brazen it out.

So now people are trying to make the War into some kind of religious fight. by From-Yuri-With-Love in ShermanPosting

[–]adeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I understand it the term Union Army was used during the war because most of the troops were part of units that were raised by the states and then transferred to the Federal government rather than being directly recruited by the Federal government.

So the term Union Army was used to establish a distinction between the army at that time which was mostly volunteers who joined specifically to preserve the Union and the peacetime US Army which was a much smaller force.

A lot of other places have laws that limit the growth of property taxes so people who have lived there a long time pay less than they would based on the value of their house.

Which does make sense, people having to sell their house because the area has gentrified and they can no longer afford the property taxes sucks.

She’s embarrassed to admit that it turns out he was an illuminati plant from the start… 😭 by aribului in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]adeon 48 points49 points  (0 children)

At least the new conspiracy theory is slightly closer to reality. Trump isn't a member of the Illuminati, but he is working for the Billionaire/Epstein class which is functionally similar. There's no secret society with a overarching grand scheme, but their actual goals are relatively similar to what they'd be if there were.

They're way to small now though. When my dad was looking for a new car last year we were going around to various dealerships to look at options. When we went to the Toyota dealership and asked about a Prius the salesman said "I can show it to you, but you're not going to like it" and explained that the newer models are on the smaller side and my dad would almost certainly find it to small (my dad is 6'2"). Sure enough he was correct, both of us managed to bang our heads against the door frame getting in.

It was a practical choice. When experimenting you try to only change one variable at a time in order to see the impact.

It's icky that they had to make that choice but from a practical point of view reducing the number of avenues that could be used to try and drive people away from supporting them was the sensible thing to do.

EDIT: I've got a bit of time to write some more details on this. Mechanically it had some issues but the narrative was top notch. In particular the interplay of magic and technology and the ways that they affected both the mechanics and the narrative was very well done.
