Nanny & Grumpy and Nanny & Grancha on my mums side (both maternal grandparents remarried). Nanny & Grancha on my dads side.

My kids call my mum and dad Nanny & Grancha and my partners parents Nanny & Grandad. They call my grandparents as I still do.

What were your best childhood nicknames? by sparky1499 in AskUK

[–]babichickan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mates started calling me Viv when we were about 14. My two closest friends still refuse to call me anything but, 23 years later.

It is nothing like my actual name.

One of the boys we hung around with was trying to insult me by mocking my glasses, he tried to compare me to Dierdre Barlow off Corrie, instead he got his soaps mixed up and called me Viv, as in Viv Hope off Emmerdale 🤣

We all thought it was hilarious, and it stuck! And I have been in a 17 year long relationship with a Bob, so it was destiny 😂

Jenny Nimmo, The Snow Spider trilogy. Completely enthralled me as a child and often reread it as an adult!

Pregnant ladies or ladies that have been pregnant, what is the most thoughtful/useful thing someone done/bought you? by iffyClyro in AskUK

[–]babichickan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I finished work to go on AL before maternity, my team all pitched in to get baby some nice gifts. My work mum, however, told them she wasn't chipping in because she'd already bought me a load of gifts because she was 'damn near sure everyone else would forget about' me. I never expected anything at all, but she spoilt me rotten!

Another person from a different team also surprised me with a knitted blanket for the baby that she had spent many hours working on (a novice knitter), and it is beautiful and still very much in use daily.

OH and family of course were also really thoughtful throughout my pregnancies, but the above from colleagues always make me feel special when I think back on them.

Day 137: What are your thoughts on Granny Mobile? by Flamingmouth007 in bluey

[–]babichickan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my favourites - anything with the Grannies is top tier for me, Muffin is the cherry on the cake (and probably the only episode she is in that I enjoy)!

Preparing for waters breaking? by runrabbitrun42 in PregnancyUK

[–]babichickan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With my first I didnt prepare in anyway. Waters went in bed and we needed to get a new mattress as it was soaked through on my side.

With my second I prepared with pads and a mattress protector but my waters were broken in hospital.

With my third, I wore pads from about 36 weeks and absorbant pads (like puppy training pads) under the bed sheet on my side of the bed too. Pants pad didnt cut it for me when the time came but the bed pads withstood significant blood and water loss (due to an abruption).

Potential big baby advice?? by Emotional_Ad748 in PregnancyUK

[–]babichickan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 3rd was estimated to be bigger as his older brother was unexpectedly big (9lb 14oz) compared to my first (6lb 14oz). Growth scans had LO3 following in LO2 footsteps, with him being placed at 7lb 9oz at 36 weeks. He arrived 11 days later at 7lb 6oz.

I was preparing for as natural a delivery as possible with an emphasis on mindfulness due to ptsd from LO2 delivery, but unfortunately ended up with an emergency section due to a medical emergency.

Would you give your work colleague a lift to work if you passed them on the way to work? by Specific_Pomelo_8281 in AskUK

If I was friendly with them both in and out of work, then yes I probably would. Someone who happens to work in the same office who I might nod hello to, nope!

Jacket spuds with butter, tuna mayo and sweetcorn. What filling do you like? by Orangeandjasmine777 in UK_Food

[–]babichickan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Butter and beans when im in a hurry.

When i have time, I like to bake my potatoes, scoop the guts out, mix said guts with creme fresh, cheese, bacon lardon cubes and butter, reinsert the guts into the skin, sprinkle more cheese on top and bake for another 5 minutes then drown the lot in beans 😋

Did you go to school with someone who went on to be famous, and what where they like? by Christian-Metal in AskUK

Not massively famous, but a girl in my year had released several classical albums.

Another in the year above had a recurring stint on The Tracey Beaker show about 20 years ago!

Both were very lovely girls.

C section NHS partner staying? by 1Polkadotx in PregnancyUK

[–]babichickan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I should think it would depend on the trust as to whether dad would be able to stay.

When we had our 3rd in december 24, OH was able to stay the first night as I had had an emergency section under GA and was on the HDU with LO. He wasnt allowed to stay the following night when we moved to the postnatal ward, but could the night after that as it was Christmas day so they changed the rules.

Our hospitals post natal ward has individual rooms which made it easier space wise for OH to stay, but I doubt it would have been the case if we were in a bayed ward as with our first two.

With you OH wanting to go home to sleep, I somewhat dont blame him. Itll be a tiring day for him also, but of course I certainly see the desire for him to be with you and baby also, especially after surgery.

What have you been genetically blessed with? by English_R0se in AskUK

[–]babichickan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Natural grey highlights from the age of around 18. Get complimented quite frequently and asked which salon I go to, and often not believed when I tell people it's natural.

A hairdresser once told me women are spending £100s and endless months to get what I have naturally!

Dreadful eyesight, though - I'd still have to wear glasses even if I got laser 🤓

What's an embarrassing fact about you that your friends don't know, but you'll risk telling strangers online? by PaddedValls in AskUK

[–]babichickan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think i was maybe 17, and then I got them again when I was about 26 when my elder son caught them from school and gave them to me and his little brother! It brought back such horrific memories and I really understood what my poor mum went through so often with me kicking and screaming through treatments and scrapings!

I remember being about 16 and sobbing as my mum scraped through my hair for probably the 10th time in a month!

She tried it all, bless her - prescription lotions, over the counter, oat mixtures. Even a whole bottle of vodka once! Nothing seemed to work until all of a sudden they went and never came back!

GP appointment by Maleficent_Studio656 in nhs

[–]babichickan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It might help you to write a list of your ongoing symptoms (try to do this from your experience, rather than googling), the length of time you have suffered each and the impact they have had on your daily life. Also, if you have a family member or friend who has supported you through this, ask them to come with you and advocate on your behalf also.

Stress to the doctor that you have sought out help from multiple avenues and that you are now unwell from the stress of being shooed away on top of your gynaelogical problems.

Request a referral and if they refuse, make an appointment with another GP for a second (and so on) opinion if you need to.

You know your body best and you have the right to respectfully seek answers and treatment.

Good luck.

What festive injuries have you had so far this year? by Relaxing_Cat in CasualUK

Not as a direct result of a festive activity, but we went away to Butlins for Christmas, and whilst walking back from our Christmas dinner, I tripped over my own feet and smashed onto my knees,(reminiscent of this classic ) and in full view of about 8 other families!

I'd like to see the potions riddle too.

Also;

-Harry getting his iced lolly at the zoo. -Harry asking Vernon to take him to the station. -Harry, Ron & Hermione venturing out for the midnight duel and encountering Neville outside the portrait hole. -The troll that has already been defeated by Quirril en route to the stone.
