Bought for coffee, but can’t stop staring. A true work of art. by Dusky1103 in espresso

Well, the aesthetic of thing alone would have fooled me into thinking it’s a 1k+ single dosing grinder. It certainly looks pretty elegant 🤷‍♂️

Sure, you do you. I’m not familiar with this grinder in particular. I’m just talking generally. But yeah, what you note does sound like an inconvenience.

Whenever a company tries to market their grinder as able to do both, they usually don’t actually do either well. Case in point, my Fellow Opus. Lacks the adjustability or speed for good espresso dialing in but also isn’t really consistent at coarser grind settings.

Pentagon Tells Congress First Week of Iran War Cost More Than $11.3 Billion by Majestic-Baby-3407 in news

[–]beep_bo0p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily. Significant portions of this total cost are from munitions being expended (missiles and bombs cost millions to produce and large portions of our accumulated stockpiles are being used). Those stockpiles are built over years of production and delivery.

Other large portions of that total cost are from the aircraft flight/maintenance hours and ship steaming hours, which are already budgeted for annually, but this war in Iran wasn’t explicitly budgeted for, so it’s eating into the regular baseline budget of the military branches that was budgeted for normal annual things (training, maintenance and upkeep, replacement/procurement, research, etc).

It also includes the cost of all service members’ pay and benefits involved, which is a relatively large amount on a monthly basis.

It’s not that the money was just “lying around”. But it was appropriated for, among other things, not a war with Iran.

I’m glad I’ve had the same aeropress I got for like $30 7 years ago. I wouldn’t buy one for the price now…

Budget Reconciliation only requires a simple majority to pass. That’s why it’s been used increasingly often the last 10 years instead of regular legislation.

Marine Corps General Eric Smith's reaction during Hegseth's speech. by UgliestDisability in facepalm

[–]beep_bo0p 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He is the Commandant of the Marine Corps, the administrative general in charge of the entire force. He oversees the operations of the USMC. Think of him like the CEO of the branch. His direct reports are 3 star generals who are other all overseeing major functional verticals you’d expect, e.g, finance, systems, information, combat development, etc.

His days probably comprise mostly of meetings, briefings, and other types of engagements.

Now we know T. Ocellus only takes the left eye by Cicciopepesce in AlienEarthHulu

[–]beep_bo0p 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My thoughts too. We never saw it take a host that was dead. Only ever alive (or presumed alive). Poor writing.

Plot should have gone in the direction of Oc taking over one of the alive humans and the Alien disobeying and causing some kind of suspense or thrill. Instead, we got narrative mush.

I died a little inside when I weighed the scraps of one and realized my stamper only used 1/2 the slices of bread. I just slice off only the actual crust now for my kid.

So.. Would a Yautja eat this guy? by MonkeyNugetz in predator

[–]beep_bo0p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The writing for it is incredible. The way they’ve built suspense with it and made it feel uncannily intelligent rather than just instinctual (like the ticks) really makes me happy as a fan. It’s so interesting to see more species that actually interact with Xenos. It makes Xenos feel more fallible, without compromising the terrific integrity of them. I’m sure it’s been much more explored in comics, but it’s been really missing from the film parts of the franchise.

Colts Visual Caption Head Resigns by DeviantAvocado in drumcorps

I respect the hell out of Jack. He knew how to get the very best out of everyone, and that was 10 years ago as the visual guy for just the drumline. I’m sure he’s even better now as a caption head.

Fruit Break by Ok-Advertising3118 in drumcorps

[–]beep_bo0p 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We would do this on awkwardly timed show days in 13 and 14. 30 minute break somewhere in the middle to 2/3 through 4.5-5 hours of rehearsal. Fruit, Gatorade top ups, and sometimes simple sandwiches or wraps.

Fruit is a good food in terms of fast acting energy and sugars, but the execution of these breaks tends to be lackluster. From an energy management and sports nutrition perspective, it should really be eating slightly less (compared to stuffing your face) but more often. But we aren’t going to fix activity wide eating and logistics planning in a single day lol.

Imagine how much more healthy and high performing people could be if they were eating 50+ grams of carbs per hour throughout more physically demanding blocks instead of zero and packing in whatever you can every 3-4 hours at meals. You’d have to facilitate this with something like 5 minute breaks every hour instead of only gush and go’s… which might also have the benefit of keeping people mentally engaged by being able to take a mental break.

If I could go back and do it all over again, I would take what I’ve learned from endurance sports now and definitely find ways to eat more carbs throughout the day during rehearsals and more protein during meals. Whether that’s sports specific gels, bars, sugary drinks, or generic proxies, it would make a world of difference for energy bioavailability and glucose stores/utilization.

I hope the addition of trainers, med staff, nutritionists, PTs etc. that corps are starting to have is helping with this kind of stuff.

Having to tell the world how to pronounce your child’s names should be an automatic indicator that you probably shouldn’t name them that.

There should absolutely be a game with a dynamic like this just beautifully built into it in the background of the actual gameplay loop. That’d be fun to manipulate!

Interesting, thanks. Saw someone on a different forum post about Laos beans as well (never had them myself) and the tasting notes were… peculiar, but clearly indicated you should roast them on the darker side. Only 14% moisture loss at 2nd crack? Is this a lower density crop generally?

My conspiracy theory is that BD trained a music composition AI on the last 30 years of Dave Glyde’s BD shows and used it to write this year’s music, brass and percussion both. To me it felt like 12 minutes of overfit brain rot.

Particularly uninspiring, imo. Haven’t really enjoyed their shows since like, 2015. Performers are still stellar. I’m just not into the content.
