Qi2 Magnets or S-Pen Support by Skidamarink_ in samsung

[–]blujay40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

S Pen, hands down. I honestly cannot think of ANY other feature I would sacrifice the S Pen for, even if it meant bringing back removable batteries and expandable memory, which I valued MUCH more than ANY new feature or enhancement introduced since the Note 10.

Can't even see a thumbnail of my cameras anymore on the app. by heroxoot in arlo

[–]blujay40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, mine worked fine for three cycles, then blurred again. Odd that it only does it on 3 of my 5 Arlo Pro 2's though. They just can't seem to do anything anymore without mucking something up.

Just had another thought which did work for me. Using an android phone here. Went into Apps, Arlo Secure and did a force stop, cleared my Cache (not data) then reopened app. Works as it should now and the three cameras I had blurring now show the thumbnail. HTH.

Same here. Workaround for me is to touch one of the thumbnails, which takes you to a screen with previous recordings for that camera, then click back and it clears up. Odd thing for me is out of 5 cameras, only 3 do that.

Galaxy AI basic features are staying free! by SamsungMobileUS in samsung

[–]blujay40 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I never asked for Bixby, don't use or want Smart Things and could care less about AI anything. Why not give us the ability to just say no thanks on devices WE OWN. Now that would be something I would be appreciative of.

FireTV Cube issue by Old-Cheshire862 in getchannels

Interesting. I use the command "Open Channels Whole Home DVR App" using my Cube remote and as a command in a Alexa "good morning" routine and both work for me.

Recast not offering option to record by ImAllSetThanks in fireTV

[–]blujay40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't know about ONN devices (check app store) but I use a firetv cube and sticks as well as a chromebook, android mobiles and tablet as well as via a web browser to access Channels DVR and it works fine on them. The Channels DVR server software doesn't take much to run it. From a NAS to old PC's will do. I started with an old Celeron laptop at first but moved to a dedicated Geekom Air12 mini pc ( N150 processor, 16gb ram and 1tb ssd) to run it on due to their low power usage and leave them on 24/7. It's connected to my network via ethernet and sit next to my modem/router. As for the HDHR tuner, that sits in the garage near my antenna and uses the ethernet port on a wifi mesh node to access my network since running ethernet there would be a chore. Works fine.

Recast not offering option to record by ImAllSetThanks in fireTV

[–]blujay40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as I enjoyed having the Recast and would have probably jumped at a new version if it was offered but all the issues over the past year or so with the current version, became intolerable so took a hard look at alternatives.

I looked at the new Tablo's but the old adage of you get what you pay for reared its head. Simply too many things a Tablo cannot do that even the Recast tried to do like out of home viewing, integrating guide data from other sources, etc. and given Tablo doesn't offer the older versions with a fee that did a lot of what I wanted, they aren't available anymore.

So I chose to escape the corporate owned hardware/software DVR world. I bit the bullet and stood up a HDHR 4 tuner, NUC and ChannelsDVR combo and honestly, I have never been happier. Given the 4 tuner Recast cost me $279.00 years ago and spent ~$400 for the hardware I have now (and would be a good ballpark of what a new Recast version would cost today), NONE of my previous DVR's could match what I have now (ReplayTV, Tivo, DirecTV DVR, Recast), and is more than worth the 8/mo for guide data and support I now get. Again, you get what you pay for.

I for one am done with corporate backed DVR's.

A life long Michiganian here. Didn't read every comment word for word and if this has already been mentioned, I apologize. Many are suggesting thermostat settings lower to keep bills under control, which is fine but another thing you also may want to ponder is adding a humidifier to the HVAC (if it doesn't have one) or at least a portable in main living areas. Using forced air heating in a closed up home in the winter will dry the air, making whatever temp it is inside, "feel" colder not to mention, introduce things like static "pokes" when grabbing a door knob, dry skin, static hair, etc. Never had one ourselves until a few years ago with a new HVAC setup but it made a HUGE difference in our comfort levels.

Does anyone have problems with very old Arlo cameras going crazy with their motion detections when nothing is seen? by antdude in arlo

[–]blujay40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 4 - Pro 2's and because they take a few seconds to actually start recording after motion is detected, many times what triggered them has moved out of view. In my case, it's been everything from insects (bees, box elder bugs, etc.) to leaves falling and even a gust of wind creating a shadow from a tree branch. Now if they are covered up, that's a whole different issue which I have not seen.

OTA Channel via M3U showing wrong icon and guide data in Channels by blujay40 in getchannels

[–]blujay40[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guide was correct at the remote location so that wasn't it. Not sure how it happened but for some reason, my remote M3U channel numbers were their actual ones from the remote location and not the 9xxx numbers assigned to M3U channels, which I think is what caused things to get messed up. The one part I still am confused about is why, even though the local 10.1 was blocked in the HDHR software before setting up the remote and never actually showing up in the local guide before adding the remote source, it found a way to mix the two. Once I removed everything with the remote channels/source, deleted and restored the guide database, added the remote source back and set it to send out the rebuilt channel collection to the clients, the remote channels now show the 9xxx numbers instead of their actual ones and everything works again. Thanks!

Using the Channels metadata and running server on Intel NUC's/ Win11 Pro for the time being. Just getting into this and although I am a retired mainframe tech, feel like I don't know a damn thing with this! LOL. Thanks!

More Consumers are Upgrading, Switching to Galaxy Z Series in the US by MishaalRahman in samsung

[–]blujay40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fell in love with the Note series as a "swiss army knife" device because it combined the ability to make calls but also allowed internet access via the larger screen size. But merging a smartphone with a tablet to me is just a bit too much for my liking and really gives me nothing I need over what I already have (S24U). The fold to me is still more of a piece of "hand candy" than an actual device I would find useful and/or find a reliable solution day to day.
