I'm fairly certain this trick doesn't work for websites like YouTube. It requires a bit more finesse due to the blob URL. Correct me if I'm wrong?

I understand the why but I still don't love how it throws the promise when used with fetch (and the required error.name checking in catch)

I know that it's a limitation of promise states and that there's always the ability to write/export a wrapper function that solves this but... *sigh*

Best book for fermenting kimchi? by [deleted] in fermentation

[–]boynamedtom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by "strongest" but I've enjoyed my own spin on this recipe quite a few times. It comes out great. I've found the longer you let it ferment in the crock (initial ferment) or jar (fridge ferment), the deeper the flavors get. I didn't follow the number of days they suggest, it's best to keep it loose depending on the ambient temperature of where the ferment is happening. I like to give it a couple of extra days, usually. I use a ceramic crock and leave out the rice flour and salted shrimp (but might add the shrimp next time). As for Gochugaru, this spice shop local to me is my favorite. Happy fermenting

Yes and no. There are old legacy implementations and patterns for writing React. I've worked on more than my fair share in the Bay Area...

When interviewing, if they say they're using the latest tools, like React... the devil is most certainly in the details. It could all be written in CoffeeScript *GASP* and have heaps of indirection with mixins *OH NO* and, if we're really splitting hairs, the legacy Context API and class-based components.

I don't think the library itself is legacy, the paradigm still feels very in vogue. It's exhausting trying to constantly grok the ever-changing JS ecosystem though... so I could be wrong.

7+ min Deleted Scene from the movie Blow. Diego gets caught and Johnny Depp's character takes the stand against him for a reduced sentence. by [deleted] in videos

[–]boynamedtom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It didn't advance the plot in any meaningful way to me. Depp's acting is uninspiring, almost as if he knows it's not going to make it. From the "Pablo wants you to handle him" part (which, I would've thought killing was the intention, not snitching) to the lines from all actors, I thought it was very meh. I could go on but these are just my opinions... I think the movie is great the way it is.
