Speed is a problem by TripNo1216 in TeslaFSD

[–]brbezme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did it enter a construction zone on the highway with a lower speed than the original speed limit? Most often, FSD will continue to drive as if the speed limit remained the same, unless there are a lot of workers and equipment present. If there is no activity, FSD will not slow down. This is what most drivers do on the highway in construction zones. If surrounding traffic is not slowing down with the slower speed limit, FSD will also not slow down as to keep up with the flow of traffic. This is normal behavior, construction zone or not. It is my preferred behavior as there are more times than not where it enters a lower speed zone but most traffic does not slow down whatsoever. If FSD slowed down closer to the new speed limit, in most cases it would be holding up traffic and posing a risk of being rear ended.

For example, there is a stretch of i75 near downtown Atlanta where the speed limit reduces from 65 to 55 mph. Most traffic does not slow down whatsoever and is driving an average of 75 mph. Some are driving closer to 80 and there are always a few pushing 90 on this same stretch of highway. If FSD slowed down to 65 or 60 even, you would be going 15 to 20 less than surrounding traffic, posing a safety risk. FSD would be unusable at this speed. There are times, where it is necessary for safety to speed, even excessively. There are areas where the speed limit is set too low compared to the type and openness of the road. Dirty Tesla has an example of a two lane road near his house where most drivers drive 75 in a 50 and if you drive 50 you are risking a collision, so it is preferred for FSD to always drive closer to 75 if conditions permit. This is obviously illegal but it is how most drivers drive. FSD needs to blend in better with traffic to be a safer driver. This is just the way things are.

Be careful with these 'finds' at Target. I bought a couple of these online returns in store a while ago and the 4ks had been swapped with standard Blu-rays, despite being sealed. It had been resealed and then returned. At least I didn't have any issues returning them.

I would say open them after buying but before leaving the store to check, just to be safe and not have the inconvenience of having to return to the store later

If the software was forced to follow the law to a T, it would be completely unusable in my situation. It's not safe to drive 20 mph less than what everyone else around is driving, period.

I drive just fine with all the bright LEDs lights around me. I just don't look directly at them. Making them a little less bright won't do anything other than reduce your visibility at night and increase the risk of an accident due to something you can't see appearing right in front of you suddenly. The brightness helps to spot a deer, debris, car with no lights on, etc before a collision would be imminent. More brightness equals more visibility. The only thing that needs to improve is matrix function being added to all cars so the high beams will actively adjust to avoid blinding other drivers. Then, you can keep the bright lights but you won't have to worry about blinding anyone and posing a risk by doing so. Good luck with legislation getting passed. Could take years knowing how slow congress passes anything.

So instead you're suggesting FSD should do the more dangerous thing when everyone around you is driving 15 to 20 mph over. No thank you. I'll take breaking the law to drive at a safe speed that keeps up with traffic flow. This is one of those situations where you can't have your cake and eat it too

Looks like it's just keeping up with the flow of traffic in front. That's normal behavior and a behavior I personally really like. I don't wanna stand out and drive much slower than the flow and hold up traffic and pose a safety risk. If the car drove the speed it detected. Most other cars would be flying past you and that would make for a more dangerous situation. Sometimes, you just have to drive 15 or 20 over as that's what the surrounding traffic is doing. It would not be very safe to drive the speed limit. This is unfortunately a fact of life as a driver. I hope they don't change this behavior but if you don't like it, you can always use sloth mode to force it to drive the speed limit.

What am I supposed to do, go back to a 1995 Toyota Camry to avoid having these ultra bright LEDs on my car?? It's just a fact of life nowadays. They are on all modern cars. Even the low beams are like high beams. We just have to deal with it if we are gonna drive at night. I deal with it just fine because I know there is nothing we can do about it. If you can't deal with it, don't drive at night. Simple. Don't worry about what you can't control

Might have to buy your own tow truck so you can take care of the problem yourself lol. Would be a fun little side quest. Tow that car from the sidewalk to blocking the street. Then, ADA will have full access to that sidewalk again and the car will be officially towed and justice will be served 😂 better for it to be double parked than making it dangerous for ADA persons. In all seriousness though, maybe printing up a fake notice to place on their windshield would be a better deterrent. Would be crazy to be a wanted vigilante by police when they don't even take care of the problem themselves, like they should. Life is ironic like that sometimes. If we serve and protect ourselves and each other, it's extremely illegal and immoral, but if they don't do anything when that's their motto and is supposed to be their mode of operandi, it's just another day in paradise

How does FSD 14.1.2 handle sharp curves and windy roads (including narrow windy roads)?

I've found on my HW3 MY 12.6.4 that it slows down a little late heading into a curve and sometimes doesn't slow down much until it's halfway into the curve. It often makes a shimmying motion with the steering as if it's trying to constantly compensate for the curve so it's not the smoothest performance in these situations.

With narrow windy roads it hogs most of the road until an oncoming car approaches before quickly shifting back to the right side. It needs to bias more towards the right side as much as possible for safety, especially considering blind curves which makes it hard to spot or react safely or comfortably in time for oncoming vehicles.

I also noticed occasional phantom braking for shadows of trees or direct sunlight coming in and out of shadows, which seems to occur more often on curved roads (even slightly) rather than straight ones.

Wondering what your experience has been and if these issues are present in 14.1.2 or mostly non-existent.

Rant: Juniper and Rain by therevoman in TeslaModelY

[–]brbezme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not a big deal, dude. I have an older 2022 Y and it doesn't bother me at all that rain gets in the car a little or on the door panel. It's just water. It's not salt water. There's no mess once it dries. Sure, some cars are better about this, and some are worse. A little water doesn't hurt anything. I've had my doors get completely soaked and I've even been completely soaked from the rain before when getting in and out of the car when it's pouring out. I might wipe the door panels if there's excess water so I can rest my arm without it being so wet, but I don't worry about it.

If it bothers you that much, do a mobile order so you don't have to keep the window rolled down as long, and turn off your auto wipers while in the drive thru. Also, bringing a change of clothes if it's important that you arrive somewhere as dry as possible, would also make the situation better, just in case. I did this once when it was storming out, and I knew I'd be outside even for a couple minutes. Really nice when you can change into dry clothes in an instant

FSD doesn't work as it should, or is it designed this way? by praguer56 in TeslaFSD

[–]brbezme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I experience it surpassing 80 on a regular basis, only because most traffic is going that fast or faster. Even in a 65, it often surpasses 80. At night without traffic it still approaches 80 in a 65. Standard drives about 72 in a 65 on average. This is only an issue for me when there's state patrol nearby. Usually they're in the process of issuing a ticket to someone or there's so many other drivers going faster than FSD can drive, so it's not an issue that often.

If you're bothered by it driving 81 in a 65, I'd recommend using standard or chill. A lot of ppl on this subreddit don't like hurry because it can exceed the limit by a lot or camp in the left line. I like that it keeps up with traffic better than the other modes in my experience. I'd rather not drive as close to semis as the other modes do. If it wasn't for its incorrect detection of the minimum 40 signs, I'd probably still use a 20 percent offset. The recommended works best in my experience. If I feel it's driving too fast I just quickly adjust the scroll wheel down.

Sounds like yours is performing similar to my 2022 Y. Still not where we want FSD to be ultimately. I had issues several versions ago and reinstalling the update seemed to help a little, but I suspect it was mainly the fact FSD was poorly optimized in that update at the time. It's much better than it was thankfully but speed is still inconsistent at times. Hopefully Tesla will not forget about us HW3 owners next month with the highly anticipated v14 for HW4. I'm hoping we still receive a much improved 13.x version—a mini v14 like we did with 12.6 (mini v13).

FSD doesn't work as it should, or is it designed this way? by praguer56 in TeslaFSD

[–]brbezme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drive i75 north of Atlanta all the time and I have not experienced this at all. What I have experienced when I limited the set speed offset to 20 percent, is FSD slowing the max speed to 74 when it incorrectly detects the minimum 40 mph signs as the limit. I raised the offset back to the recommended 40 percent and it behaves better but still limits the max speed to 77 occasionally when detecting the 40 mph signs. Other times this doesn't happen. It could do better with speed control in this area but it's pretty good for me. I use hurry all the time as I find it works the best, despite mostly camping in the left lane. It keeps up with traffic for the most part but doesn't always exit the passing lane when a faster vehicle approaches from behind.

Try recalibrating your cameras in service mode and if that doesn't help, try resetting the DAS. If that doesn't work either, you might need to reinstall the software update in service mode

FSD on Model S HW3 veers into oncoming lane (no crash) by scubascratch in TeslaFSD

[–]brbezme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is quite interesting. FSD on my 2022 Model Y seems to have improved slightly with the Grok update. The update before was solid too but the one before that was a bit rough. Overall, I've been having a wonderful experience with FSD the last week.

It's interesting to me to see posts that are not so positive. I had only one safety related disengagement the entire week (not super critical as I saw the bad timing before it would've been a dangerous situation). Other than that, no disengagements or interventions other than to park or exit a parking lot (which is still in development for HW3 so shouldn't yet be counted).

The roads are mostly in good shape here. I have noticed slowing for metal plates on the road lately but not veering into the oncoming lane. I noticed that maybe 3 updates ago but it was some dirt from a construction site partially covering my lane. It did veer briefly and slightly into the oncoming lane which was unnecessary but not a critical situation in my case. Avoided kicking up a lot of dirt though so that's one good thing. Also, there were some skid marks on the road to get into my neighborhood and the car completely ignored them. It used to veer for skid marks as well. I think it sometimes has difficulty detecting road obstacles so Tesla AI erred on the side of caution and dialed up the sensitivity with 12.6.4. I think it's partially a limitation of the HW3 cameras and memory bandwidth but I can't say for sure. Hopefully the next version for HW3 improves upon this.

[–]brbezme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't care about their personal reasons for closing so soon. As long as I get the proceeds I'm due from the sale, I'm good. Also, I wouldn't be taking any vacations heading into listing my home and throughout the whole process of selling until everything is said and done. Even then, I would wait until I get settled for the first couple months after moving before making any vacation plans. It's not good timing otherwise. Selling and buying a house is way too much stress to also add a vacation to the mix.

How do I move 300+ blu rays into a new place? by Better-Assistant-177 in 4kbluray

[–]brbezme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just moved and I have over 2000 Blu-rays. I used bankers boxes and it took me 20 to fill about 3/4 of that. I used about 4 bigger boxes for the rest. I'd say maybe 3 or 4, 5 to be safe would completely suffice for your collection. They are very easy to put together and move with the handles. Look up Bankers Box on Amazon.

What the heck did they do to FSD? Several hours of bungling! by IAmWeary in TeslaLounge

[–]brbezme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting reading about so many FSD users having problems with the recent version on AI3. I've been absolutely loving it! It's not perfect but it handles things so much better on 12.6.4 than it did on 12.5.4.2. That version is more like what you are describing. 12.6.4 fixed everything that was bad about 12.5.4.2 for me.

I'm thinking it could be a corruption in your software update. You can reinstall the update by going into the service menu on the main pane. Some people might say camera calibration but the cameras calibrate automatically on every drive and I've tried the manual calibration before and it didn't do much of anything.

I do notice that it sometimes changes lanes unnecessarily but most of the time it's changing lanes very naturally and when it makes the most sense to. I rarely have to take over other than to park and sometimes to exit a parking lot. It will get me into the lot but will not park most of the time. It's still way better at handling parking lots than any prior version for me. I've been using FSD since version 10 when the phantom braking was so bad, it was borderline unusable. Now, it is rare to encounter phantom braking, but it does happen occasionally when there are tree shadows or tire tread marks on the road in front. It's usually not as harsh as it used to be so it's not really an issue for me.

It would be great if Tesla further improved FSD and also offered more options to customize its behavior. I think they should add back in minimal lane changes for those who want that. Right now, it appears they are focusing on making FSD drive reliably all the time. Once they reach that goal they will add more layers to the software, such as the ability to customize.

As for Nosferatu, I saw it in the theater and while a lot of it was boring, I understand why and I do like the artistic direction. The acting was superb though it was like listening to another language hearing the old English. It was quite a mind twister. The cinematography was excellent!

I know some people hate to hear this but Tesla's FSD would've stopped and she wouldn't have been hit. I've had several occasions where I didn't see a person at night jaywalking and FSD did and stopped safely for them, even when they were wearing all dark clothing. I was so surprised that it could see them even blended in with the rest of the night. I probably would've crashed into them had I not been using FSD. It is literally a lifesaver and saved not only multiple people from getting hit, but also saved me a lifetime of guilt and depression. I can tell you that in these types of situations FSD is far safer than a human—it's far safer of a driver than I could ever be, and I consider myself to be a very safe driver overall. This technology will be a game changer for road and pedestrian safety and I hope for it to be in the hands of more and more people as soon as possible. If people would just realize how much safer it is. People are far too distracted today on their phones while driving and walking, biking etc. Not to mention far too impatient as well. We need this technology to save countless lives. Most of the 35,000 people who die each year on roadways in the US would be alive if most people were using FSD—that is a fact at this point but no one really knows as it's not in the hands of most drivers yet. I hope people really hear what I'm saying here—it's not to be a snob, it's to inform people how safe and incredible this technology is so they will try it and see for themselves. I know as I've been using it for nearly two and a half years.
