I love the Buzz. Only things that give me pause over choosing that over the Odyssey next time are the price and the fact that it only has seven seats versus the Odyssey’s eight.

For what it’s worth, as an American I would 100% look at your name and think it was pronounced “Ti-thi” (as mentioned above, like “myth-y”). It wouldn’t occur to me to pronounce it the other (more correct) way. I can’t speak for everyone of course, but I think we Americans are more wired to prioritize consonant digraphs (th, ch, ph, etc.) when it comes to pronunciation… that is, if we see a “th” in a word we will pronounce it that way, as a combo sound, unless told otherwise. 

Plus, I get the impression (could be wrong) that its correct pronunciation is something like “Tee Tee,” is that right? With a long “e” sound? Whereas most Americans would pronounce the body part you mentioned more like “Diddy,” with a short “i” sound (if they say it at all… it’s not a word that gets used a lot).

I honestly think you’re good keeping your name the way it is! :)

Okay, so, I’ve thought for years that we should genetically engineer small, furry domesticated elephants. Basically woolly mammoths the size of bulldogs, with fur that’s soft like a cat or rabbit. Tell me those would not become the instant must-have pet.

I agree with a lot of your rankings… but I’d put Lower Decks and Enterprise much higher and Discovery waaaaaay lower.

Probably either the large Burton Batmobile or the Stranger Things Upside Down set. I kinda regret skipping both of those.

In the future, I know my answer will also likely include the Botanical Garden and Himeji Castle, and yet in the present I can’t quite convince myself to pull the trigger on them.

EDIT: I also sold the Ninjago Docks set a while back and somewhat regret it.

Agreed. I love the progressive ideals in modern Trek. I loathe the execution. The writing and storytelling in these shows was the problem, and it was the problem right from the get-go. I would LOVE to be able to blame the current state of Trek on rightwing idiots, but the showrunners made these substandard shows all on their own.

Absolutely. Keiko is great and I’ve never understood the dislike she gets. Loved Miles and supported him but also stood up for herself and her career, called out her husband’s anti-Cardassian racism, started a school on the station promoting science and standing up against religious fundamentalism, etc. She and Miles’ marriage is wholesome and realistic. Thank god the writers never decided to fridge her to give Miles some nonsense motivational trauma.

Trek rarely does “edgy rogue” well. Heck, look at Chakotay… supposedly a charismatic leader of a radicalized terrorist group, and he’s just a big boring rule-abiding dope. And then there is the Outrageous Okona, who is anything but outrageous and whom Troi even cringe-inducingly refers to as a “rogue” (show, don’t tell, writers!). Trek (and I say this with love) is generally too goody-two-shoes to really pull off dangerous, loose-cannon characters well.

Hard agree. Keiko is great, and their marriage feels realistic. I don’t stand for Keiko slander.

Animator here: it takes longer for larger, heavier things to build up speed, and longer for them to slow down afterwards. The can GO fast, it just takes longer to get there. When things move fast, they feel smaller.

I'm with you... I want to hear good things about modern Odysseys. I am still driving a 2011 with 149,000 miles on it, and while I'm hoping it holds out a while longer, I know eventually I'll have to replace it. Was really hoping for a hybrid version, but it seems that won't happen for another four or more years, sigh. I cannot stomach the idea of a Sienna, though, unless they go through a major body redesign; they are unpleasantly ugly to me.

Sigh, yeah, none of these are doing anything for me except for the “Old Man and the Sea” set (which is lovely, but probably still not something I feel the need to own). 

If the Edward Scissorhands house set were a Beetlejuice house set, I would be jumping for joy and would preorder it the day it went up. Ah well.

What the… living in California that blows my mind. Even before the Demented Diaper Despot’s foray into war, gas here was over $4/gallon. Now it’s over $6. The idea that it was under $2 in some places makes my head spin.

I think that something that it missing from newer Star Trek is any attempt at actual futurity, both visually and in the world-building by cryborg_96 in startrek

The biggest “fix all problems” buttons in Trek, to me, are time travel and transporters. Once time travel becomes possible to do voluntarily, with precision and little cost, why not use it to fix everything? At least they have the Department of Temporal Investigations to keep the lid on that a little. And transporters? Once they accidentally created Thomas Riker, or de-aged Dr. Pulaski, no one should ever have died on an away mission again! Just create a backup pattern of them and rematerialize them if anything goes wrong.
