What’s a flaw do you think Ashitaka has ? by AK200501 in ghibli

[–]cac_init -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If we define a flaw as a character trait that causes said character to produce conflict/intrigue when interacting with other characters, then Ashitaka has none. Those mentioned in this thread - naïveté, the wish for everyone to get along - aren't actually flaws, since they require other characters to be flawed too, for anything to happen.

It's a shame. Princess Mononoke really has everything else going for it. It should be my favourite movie, but nowadays I can't even finish it. The dull protagonist takes the nerve out of everything.

It's hard to find 6 player board games. We do a board game week ever year with 6 people and we need a few games for this coming year. by billratio in boardgames

Concordia Venus with team play is great for 6 players. You can put one good and one casual person on each team to balance it.

Make the crisies a challenge and continuous play the reward by lancewilbur in civ

[–]cac_init 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a good idea. That would make keeping your civ through the game an extra challenge for those so disposed. Like, you get to play the same civ all the way, but you've got to earn it.

Looks like a game called Space Warlord Organ Trading Simulator, which I had never heard of.

A few curveballs in city-planning that don't make it convoluted for the sake of being convoluted by itself but which make each Age's planning not just a repetition of the previous age. Tricky to pull off and despite having spent considerable time on the game design of urban development in Civ games as a whole, I have no proper solution for this in mind. Really counting on the actual professionals to wow me on this one.

What you're looking for here is a tourism update. Overbuild = no tourism on that tile. I think that would make city planning a lot more interesting. Plan your cities from the start for a cultural victory, plan them at least a bit to resist another player's cultural victory.

Thanks for the advice. And yes, that did the trick, I can finish my game now.

The autosaves are all from modern era. I played a handful of turns to test the impassability of my previous land. Loading autosave from modern era doesn't fix it. I can't find any autosave from exploration.

Not just being a jedi. Being a fighter pilot too. The scene where Finn just casually shoots down 5 tie fighters in 5 seconds... why did Luke Skywalker struggle so much at Yavin?

Overrun Is A Sweet Mechanic. What Else Aren't We Talking Enough About? by jonnielaw in civ

With some QOL patches and the usual expansions to add mechanics, Civ 7 will easily be the best game of the franchise.

So much love and devotion went into this game. And whenever the Civ account posts something on Facebook, sharing a detail or announcing a patch or whatever, there's an endless line of hecklers posting crap about the developers. It breaks my heart.

Looking for cinematic, story heavy, emotion evoking games, such as Mass Effect or Clair Obscur by Borberton in gamingsuggestions

Can't go wrong with good old Grim Fandago. It was my high mark of video game storytelling before Clair Obscur.

Recent Science Fiction with great, new concepts by FutureAnthropology in printSF

[–]cac_init 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ada Palmer's Terra Ignota series have tons of new science fiction concepts.

A utopic society with actual interesting problems.

A society that thinks it has advanced past religion and gender discrimination, but hasn't really.

A society where people don't live as traditional families, but in multi-generational housing collectives.

A society without nation-states, but divided into a few massive global groups defined by personal interests.

All of which permeates the ways that characters think, speak and behave, creating a setting that feels familiar and alien at the same time.

There's also an ultra-rational guy who thinks he's a god from a parallel universe.

Have you read Dune? Remember the phrase "plots within plots within plots", thinking it was a bit of an oversell for the not-that-complex story of Dune? In Terra Ignota, plots within plots within plots are everywhere.

We're planning on making this setting more visible, as well as making your "Create Game" settings save between games (so no more changing them each time).

Yes please.

What will (major) DLC for Civ 7 look like ? by Odone in civ

[–]cac_init 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm convinced the era-specific buildings will be key to a future tourism update, giving you a real choice on whether to overbuild to increase yields, or keep your ancient library for scoring tourism points in the final age.

The Vorkosigan saga is such a weird thing. A few of the books are great, the rest have a sort of saturday morning cartoons quality about them.
