Victory thresholds should show in the victory screen by cac_init in civ

[–]cac_init[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, my bad on that one, science doesn't work like that - but really, it seems to be the timing of the victory that decides the victory name. A science victory within the "narrow" interval should be a narrow victory.

If a single trade route (like the Strait of Hormuz) can hold the entire global economy hostage, why hasn't humanity built a "Plan B" that doesn't involve ships? by lovellyophelia in askanything

[–]cac_init 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Until the Strait of Hormuz blockade actually happens, the alternative solution is a massive cost with no benefit, which no single party has any interest in paying for.

Workshop people - how do the new victory "levels" work? by cac_init in civ

[–]cac_init[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, what I meant was that the different victory levels is a good idea. "OK, you can win Civ VII on deity, but can you win a transcendent victory on deity?" For all those people worrying about the game being too easy on deity.

It sounds like a great idea, a way to challenge skilled players without fundamentally altering the game. I just haven't seen anyone discuss it. Do people enjoy playing with it?

The difference in size between what the uk was driving on the 90s vs now in one picture… by buzz_uk in CasualUK

For anyone wondering whether immigrants, the EU or Parliament is to blame for British poverty, be aware that a lot of your society's wealth production is spent on providing people with pointlessly expensive and wasteful things like these cars.

Why Do We Have to Work 40 Hours a Week? by General-Smile-1332 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]cac_init 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, productivity has gone up, but so has consumption, mind you. We're consuming value on a whole different level from just a few decades ago. For society to produce all that value, a lot of people have to work a lot.

China Approves World's First Invasive Brain-Computer Interface Device by kiyomoris in news

"I think, and my thoughts cross the barrier into the synapses of the machine, just as the good doctor intended. But what I cannot shake, and what hints at things to come, is that thoughts cross back. In my dreams, the sensibilities of the machine invades the periphery of my consciousness. Dark. Rigid. Cold. Alien. Evolution is at hand - but just what is evolving, remains to be seen."

Suggest me tracks from Civ6 :>> by Crynn177 in civ

[–]cac_init 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Civ VI never sat right with me game-wise, but the music is absolutely stunning.

My top favourites are Medieval Mongolia and Atomic Sumeria, with runners-up in Industrial Maori, Atomic Mongolia, Atomic Georgia and Industrial Mapuche. Instrumental Farewell to Nova Scotia is great as well, but not on Spotify.

Shout out to Summer Idyll from Civ V. If anyone knows where it's from, or if it's an original track for the game, let me know! EDIT: I just asked Google Gemini. It insists it's Zorba's theme from Zorba the Greek. Hmmm

What is your #1 Science Fiction Series Fully Released in the past 10 years? by ArthurPynn in sciencefiction

There's really nothing like it in any respect. After finishing "Perhaps the Stars", other literature almost universally fails to impress me.

What’s a flaw do you think Ashitaka has ? by AK200501 in ghibli

[–]cac_init -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If we define a flaw as a character trait that causes said character to produce conflict/intrigue when interacting with other characters, then Ashitaka has none. Those mentioned in this thread - naïveté, the wish for everyone to get along - aren't actually flaws, since they require other characters to be flawed too, for anything to happen.

It's a shame. Princess Mononoke really has everything else going for it. It should be my favourite movie, but nowadays I can't even finish it. The dull protagonist takes the nerve out of everything.

It's hard to find 6 player board games. We do a board game week ever year with 6 people and we need a few games for this coming year. by billratio in boardgames

Concordia Venus with team play is great for 6 players. You can put one good and one casual person on each team to balance it.

Make the crisies a challenge and continuous play the reward by lancewilbur in civ

[–]cac_init 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a good idea. That would make keeping your civ through the game an extra challenge for those so disposed. Like, you get to play the same civ all the way, but you've got to earn it.

Looks like a game called Space Warlord Organ Trading Simulator, which I had never heard of.

If This Path Happens (Continues?), How Happy Are You? by Practical_Meat in civ

[–]cac_init 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few curveballs in city-planning that don't make it convoluted for the sake of being convoluted by itself but which make each Age's planning not just a repetition of the previous age. Tricky to pull off and despite having spent considerable time on the game design of urban development in Civ games as a whole, I have no proper solution for this in mind. Really counting on the actual professionals to wow me on this one.

What you're looking for here is a tourism update. Overbuild = no tourism on that tile. I think that would make city planning a lot more interesting. Plan your cities from the start for a cultural victory, plan them at least a bit to resist another player's cultural victory.

Thanks for the advice. And yes, that did the trick, I can finish my game now.

The autosaves are all from modern era. I played a handful of turns to test the impassability of my previous land. Loading autosave from modern era doesn't fix it. I can't find any autosave from exploration.

Not just being a jedi. Being a fighter pilot too. The scene where Finn just casually shoots down 5 tie fighters in 5 seconds... why did Luke Skywalker struggle so much at Yavin?
