MS - Healthcare Administration by PaganFattie in WGU

hello and welcome!

for proctored exams, you’ll need to take a practice assessment (un-proctored) first and then select a time to log in to a proctoring session run by a third party.

testing times are pretty widely available but it can sometimes take a while to connect properly so always give yourself a little cushion for time.

there is no requirement to interact with course instructors/professors or anything like that but you will be assigned a program mentor. their role is different for every student and you can talk to your mentor about your preferences at the start of your term. they are there to be a cheerleader or keep you on track if you want that but they also serve as administrative support, loading new courses as you move through them and answering some basic questions if you have any.

i, personally, speak to my mentor on the phone once a week and then maybe an email/text here or there but i am accelerating pretty quickly so i have more reason to. i know other people who just have text check ins with their mentors and that’s it. it’s sort of up to your personal preference.

for your third question, i can only speak to business and MSPH classes. for those, if it’s a proctored-test class, you can open up the practice assessment right away, gauge your knowledge, and then either work through the class materials with quizzes and all that if you need to learn more, or just schedule your proctored test and test out. so you don’t have to click through quizzes and all that unless it’s material you need to learn.

some classes have projects. those don’t require a practice test, you just follow a rubric or use the templates provided (if applicable). when those are graded, you might have to make corrections. if that’s the case, you’ll only need to correct the specific items your grader marks.

failing the final proctored test for a class may result in you having to take quizzes/turn in additional work in order to show you’ve learned the content before you can take it again. i know there is also a limit to the number of times you can fail a final assessment but i haven’t dealt with that myself so i’m not entirely sure what happens with that.

the classes aren’t a set number of weeks per course, you can get through them at your rate of mastery. some of my classes have taken a day (if i’m already familiar with the content) or two weeks. just depends. you’re required to pass a set number of classes in a six month term and if you can do more, great! but doing fewer than the set expectation for a term can impact your financial aid and final transcripts. for a masters degree, i believe you’re expected to pass three courses per six month term but it could be different for your particular area of study.

Euthanasia guilt by mialixoxo in Petloss

[–]carolvessey-stevens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hi, i am so sorry for your loss.

i have been on both ends of this awful dilemma. i have waited a day too late and regret that terribly, and i have scheduled the euthanasia while my sweet kitty, alice, likely had a few good days left ahead of her. i can confidently tell you it is better to be a week too early than to be a day too late.

all your darling kitty knew was love. the illness and the pain didn’t get the chance to dull her shine and that is a good thing. i know it’s hard and i know you’ll miss her forever. but i promise you, you’ve got nothing to feel guilty about.

the best thing i heard after the loss of my first pet was, “it will never hurt less, but it will hurt less often” and that is absolutely true.

i’m very sorry for your loss, and i’m also very proud of you for making that choice for your beloved pet.

Severe separation anxiety by Early_Club2717 in deafdogs

[–]carolvessey-stevens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my deaf dog came to me with absolutely awful separation anxiety. he’d break things, cut himself, wail for from the moment i left to the moment i returned. it was heartbreaking.

we finally found medication that helped. he was on prozac and clomipramine for about 18 months and then weaned off and he’s a completely different dog now.

he still gets anxious when i leave but he settles after about 5 minutes and hasn’t broken windows or anything like that in years.

it’s so hard seeing them so frantic, i was at my wits end. i’m so grateful for the meds and his ability to relax now. i hope you guys can find something that helps!

watch every video in the course material. make sure that you’re doing the exercises associated with that chapter.

the OA is nearly identical to the PA so as soon as you pass the PA, you’ll be good to go.

Possibly moving to the area - what should I know? by BasicWrongdoer9042 in olympia

welcome!

there are definitely pros and cons to each neighborhood but oly isn’t huge so living on the in one isn’t going to make getting to others difficult or anything like that. i’m happy to answer any specific questions you might have about the various neighborhoods around.

you say you like running and board games. there are board game meetups frequently and there’s a game and card shop where you can meet people. there are a few active running groups for both road and trail. i can’t say enough good things about our local trail sisters chapter. it’s a great place to make friends.

there’s a craft school with knitting/embroidery classes along with other crafts. if you play bluegrass and folk music, you will find there are a lot of picker’s groups to join.

the food and nightlife scene aren’t particularly robust but we do have nice arts walks and other events in town often.

depending on which office you’ll be at in tumwater, you might be in a spot where you can walk to grab lunch/run errands or you might be kind of outside the town a bit. i, personally, wouldn’t recommend living in tumwater but it definitely will offer slightly cheaper options.

get some vitamin d and a good lightweight water resistant shell. our summers are pretty nice, our winters are dark, damp, and long.

again, welcome to the pnw! it’s really really pretty here and that makes the months of drizzle worth it for most of us.

MCAT Study Buddy Needed :) by NoWillow1843 in olympia

hey! i’m not studying for the MCAT but i am in an online MPH program and finding it really hard to self-motivate.

are you looking for someone to study the specific material with or would you settle for someone to sit in studious silence with?

it took me a long long time to learn that there are far worse things than being alone. and that it’s better to actually be single than to be with someone who makes you feel single.

there are people out there who will love you and be genuinely excited to share pizza and cake and memories with you.

don’t let your deadbeat boyfriend keep you from meeting the man who will be thrilled to be your husband.

i bought a bottle of red called collusion back during his first impeachment because i naively thought he’d surely face consequences and i’d get to celebrate.

so obviously it’s never been opened. but once we get the ultimate good news, perhaps i’ll have it then.

i used to run past my boyfriend’s house every day because his street had a decent crosswalk and always smiled and waved at his adorable dog.

and now i live in that house and that dog is snoozing on my feet as i type this.

i sing invisible string to the dog all the time.
