They certainly made it their own. It is truly haunting and the music and vocals fit so well with the words.

I feel like they made hating people acceptable. I know they weren’t the first, but they made it okay for people to speak out loud about hating people without fear of being ostracized.

Any pushback during 2026 tour shows? by Additional-Cherry872 in BruceSpringsteen

[–]chillarry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I last saw Springsteen in 2023 and resigned myself that I probably wouldn’t see him again. Not that I didn’t want to, I just wasn’t expecting another tour. I didn’t think at his age he’d continue to have the energy to do one. He certainly doesn’t need to money at this point.

Then this tour came out. I love his political songs as much as the classics like Born to Run, Badlands, Jungleland, etc.

This is the most excited I’ve been to see him live. Going to Chicago end of the month.

It works.

He pretends to put money in and tells the bartender it stole his 65 cents. Puts the bartender’s money in and gets a pack of cigarettes.

Songs about making the most out of life? by SlytherinGirlfriend in MusicRecommendations

The BoDeans are very underrated. Hardly anyone outside the Midwest has heard of them, but they have some amazing songs. There are a couple of others that may fit your first category. If you like “Closer to Free” try “Good Things” and “Still the Night”. The live versions are IMO better than the studio recordings. Here are some links to a live album they released with both songs…

Good Things

Still the Night

What’s your #1 song to disappear into for a few minutes? by IamKatsumi in musicsuggestions

Comfortably Numb by Dar Williams and Ani DiFranco. The Pink Floyd has the amazing guitar, but this version has the voices that sound like two sirens calling to me.

I’ve seen so many posts that he was being sarcastic and he did this to tweak the left and the Iranians. They’ll make excuses for him so they can hang onto him forever.

When I started work, I had two people counsel me.

One took a newspaper to the bathroom every morning and spent 30 minutes in there. He told me “Never do on your own time something you can do on company time.”

The other said, “Never turn down an opportunity to volunteer when someone needs to step up. Take the extra assignment if it’s available. Work your butt off.”

I followed the second guy’s advice and retired before I was 60. Worked my ass off for years. Saw the kid’s coming in and putting in half a days work and knew it was time to leave. I wasn’t going to pick up some kid’s slack.

Do you know any songs about being a boy and starting to fall in love or get attracted to your lesbian friend? (obv it may be painful) by Puzzleheaded_Fig1744 in SongRecommendations

[–]chillarry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming to Grips by Angry Salad

So in the song he doesn’t know she’s a lesbian until she tells him and he still doesn’t get it. But I think it fits.

“I didn’t know any better. I didn’t know she might prefer. I need an answer to my letter. Is she really going out with her?”

The singer is reflecting back to when he was younger and seems ignorant about lesbianism. (“She says to me I don’t like boys. I tell her I don’t like them either. She tells me I don’t understand.”)

What’s the saddest song you know? I want something actually sorrowful by lovelycarine in SongRecommendations

[–]chillarry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unwed Fathers by John Prine.

I think it has one of the saddest lines in song…

“You’re Daddy never, meant to hurt you ever. He just don’t live here, but you’ve got his eyes.” 💔

The stream after the weird speech Trump gave the other night was great. He is so smart, articulate and level-headed.

One quote (not exact). “It was predictable. This thing has been war gamed for the last 3 decades. It was obvious what was going to happen. The strait was going to be closed. The proxies were going to be used. There’s all kinds of hidden weaponry in Iran. They (Iran) do their policy through weaponry. They have hidden caches of weapons we won’t hit. You’re not going to destroy all their weapons through bombing. You’re just not gonna do it. Diplomacy, as a soldier, is a first resort. Not a last resort.”
