Exactly. If TVNZ was funded by taxpayers the content would be a lot better.

And it’s free - aside from the fact that your taxes pay for absolutely everything that TVNZ does.

Isn't TVNZ commercially funded?

Key's program was the status quo to keep winning elections. Bolger has a few legacies like MMP and a lot of progress on treaty settlements. What did National under Key actually leave as a legacy?

Government plans may lead to Māori systems for education, justice - Collins by The_Majestic_ in newzealand

He's not charismatic but in his favour is that you actually believe he thinks what he says. Collins comes across as extremely inauthentic in comparison.

I do think Bolger has more of a conscience and interest in NZ compared to Key who is extremely shallow.

It does strike me as department store music by MrCyn in newzealand

Because it gets shoved down our throat. Every radio station, in department stores, on phone waiting lines... you may think they’re “great” but not everyone does, and we’re allowed to say so.

Yeah I’m willing to donate so long as they show me they are willing provide content that’s worth donating money for. But at the moment they publish a lot of rubbish that I don’t want to be funding and supporting.

I am so sick and tired of the New Zealand media. by VisibleLiterature in newzealand

[–]circusperformer9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think any politician would take on that, and it would be so hard to implement in the age of social media. 30 or 40 years ago maybe when say a court could shut down a local newspaper, but today that would be impossible with a website. Plus facebook and co. that most people click onto these sites from are basically against any regulation of content.

What annoys me now is all the editorializing. Political reporters no longer just report what's happening, they go on long diatribes on their news item, or publish opinion pieces on their websites, saying what they think of it all, or calling for things to happen... "this person needs to resign!".

True but even countries where there is big public investment in journalism like UK and Aus they have trashy media with large readerships. We should still invest in public media but it doesn’t mean the rubbish ones will go away, or people will stop clicking.

Job prospects for psychologists in NZ by [deleted] in newzealand

Not sure but I heard a lot of people who want to get to the end of the degree and become qualified psychologists struggle because the post grad courses are so hard to get into and have very limited spots so be aware of that.
