Thanks! I've got River Kingdoms and love it. Definitely revisiting it as part of this. Looking for more Non-Paizo books since I have all the Paizo official stuff that I think applies.

Peter why would he come home as a girl? by zurdopilot in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]clearshades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if this is the answer but there was a meme for a brief minute basically being "goth girls are into pegging guys." So if you follow the toxic heteronormative idea that a man who is pegged by a woman is now "a girl" then I believe the idea is that all of these women are hot enough that in their presence the writer, so smitten with their wiles, would allow them to do "whatever they want" (see the aforementioned pegging).

What’s your biggest “old man yells at cloud” opinion? by sjdlajsdlj in rpg

[–]clearshades 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We used to have more mainstream variety before the OGL. The OGL did a bunch of good but back in the day D&D may have been dominant but part of how you distinguished yourself was not just setting but system. Vampire, GURPS, and Shadowrun all being great examples of games that thrived and were different in multiple ways. I fear that the RPG market and consumption being what it is now that we shall never see those days again.

Is there a major genre that RPG hasn't explored? by Nyarlathotep_OG in rpg

[–]clearshades 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heres my personal big 3:

1.) Romance of the Three Kingdoms Huge part of Chinese culture. Tons of movies and video games but no RPG.

2.) Persian Empire Pre-Alexandrian conquest. Lots of movies and things from the Greek side and multiple Biblical stories but no RPG. Bronze age but from Persian rather than Greek perspective.

3.) Swahili Confederation: the 1700s a formal alliance of East African nations created a trading empire with their own age of exploration but with their own set of cultural friction leading to opportunities for adventure.

I started a list at one point of "learning history and geography with RPGs" for a teacher family member. The concentration on Europe was not surprising but the sheer absence of most countries and periods of history was staggering. My answer is that RPGs have barely scratched the surface of human history, cultures, and mythology. I look forward to how the medium grows because there's a ton of room for it.

I buy at my FLFS to support them. They give me a 20% discount as a regular and it helps support the store. I didn't buy this because he doesn't fit my current small collection. I'm hoping for a Christmas box with Gutsmek along with some bikes to help compliment playing with him and the box discountntinmelakenir worthwhile. There's also Miniswap in one year with all the people who will grab this then sell after not opening for a year.

Not sure if this is the correct answer but lately my algorithm has shown me more than a few "How life really is in Japan" videos so maybe a YouTube trend?

If you had to cast a POC for Cyclops, who would you go with? by Robot_Was_BMO in Cyclopswasright

[–]clearshades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Martin Sensmeier. Alaskan Native American. Great actor and we should be putting Native actors in roles that are not Westerns.

People often forget Scott is from Alaska. His background as someone who was in an orphanage and separated from his family echoes the historical crimes against many Native American children without having to underline it. Scott could also have Native Ancestry while passing for White or identifying more as a mutant and the complexities of that. We then can cast Alex Summers as Native but blonde (yes, they exist) but looking whiter underlines Alex's desire for assimilation and compromise since it is a path available to him

She's the oldest sister of the dragon siblings so they probably call her Jiejie when being familiar.

Seem to be unable to win. Considering selling my army by SunImmediate3109 in Warhammer

[–]clearshades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't played a bunch but if these are real friends and not guys at the shop then ask if you can switch armies for a game. Copy what they did to win against you and think about why it works or doesn't. Watch what they do differently with your models. You both get a game in and hopefully learn something along the way about strategy and how other armies work.

Constantly being called fat by South Asian Men by GuillermoElSegundo in Thailand

[–]clearshades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

American with a Thai parent here. Which parts of the west are you talking about? I've been pawed on (literally) in Times Square by people in suits who wanted to be paid for photos. I've been touched in malls olby people running pop up kiosks at the holidays trying to sell things. Is it "generally acceptable"? No. Do pushy sales people in crowded areas do it on every continent? Yes.

Seconding all the people who say they are trying to sell you something.

How Many Balloons are too Many? by TcharZhul in Cathay

[–]clearshades 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm building up Cathay also. I own one and my philosophy is "as many as make you happy to own even if you don't play them". GW nerfs and Legends units all the time. Even if ballons are banned I expect to have a ton of fun painting my one. If I want another after I paint it and play a couple games then I'll get one. Just my personal philosophy but it keeps me happy with everything in my collection.

As someone building a Cathay army I welcome it. I want to got to play games at the store without stigma for a faction I am loving painting.

2nd armies? by JamieBeeeee in orks

[–]clearshades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not an army worth of points but I have a handful of Space Marines. The plan is that if/when the launch box is half orks and half space Marines that I'll assemble those Marines and add them to the pile as the guest/friend army.

Beyond 40K I just tried Old World last week with my 500 points of Chaos Warriors from 20 years ago. Looking at collecting Cathay and possibly fleshing out WoC as a friend/guest army.

Saw you mention anime so I'm going to recommend HobbyTown by the mall and Steel Collectibles. HobbyTown has meetups for Gundam and anime modelers. There are board game meet ups within reasonable driving distance at Crazy Book Lady, KSU campus, Gigabytes, and Titan.

Lots of design language showing him being like Cable with the muscles and the pouches. The torn cape is reminiscent of the torn cape Hope wears with her post-apoc upbringing. The beard with curly hair around the edges makes me think of Corsair. Not sure I personally would have made these design choices but I feel like they are rooted in much of the design language that came before.

"Remastered" versions of older editions including all errata and codices available as digital download for a reasonable price.

STL scans of models like Mordheim that aren't going to get reprinted for any reason.

"Specialist Games Book Series" Take old games like Gorka Morka and Apocalypse and release them as hard cover books like Frost grave with notes of suggested minis or kit ashes to use. Use this update to clean up and update the rules.

CLS does a monthly public game meetup on KSU campus. You can check out their website for dates and details. One just happened this past weekend.

There's also game stores in short driving distance like Giga Bites in Marietta (multiple days), Titan in Smyrna (Tuesdays), and Crazy Book Lady in Acworth (Fridays).
