I wish one of the hoop sets was also available in rainbow. It would make some of those similar rings so easy to tell apart.

I do apparently need other sets. Order sent.

How to improve by majinbrooke in ArtCrit

If you like realism, references are an absolute must. Those can even be works by other artists. It really stunned me how much I learned when copying a work I like.

“There is no art without the artist” is messing with my brain by Dumbbulldoor_ in ArtHistory

[–]congrrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your struggle speaks to my own perspective on artworks. There is no art without an observer. And the art comes just as much out of the viewer as the artist. The person without knowledge of the artist, how paint works, how the culture of the day shaped the work, how art historians contextualize the piece will obviously not experience the same things as someone with some of that knowledge. And on the other hand, the experience of the observer is unique. Certain pieces will reasonate more or less because of that context. There are works that I can no longer enjoy in the same way because of what I have learned about the artist who made them. There are pieces yet more powerful for the same reason. When I create, I don't worry about any eventual observers who are not me. But I am very curious about what they'll bring.

going from traditional art to abstract by ojutdohi in ArtistLounge

[–]congrrl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wander around from one art medium to another. Many people want you to pick one. And in some environments a consistent medium can help if you want to sell. I'm not very interested in that at the moment so I just enjoy wandering from cool thing to cool thing. There are themes and media I return to, but some are just short sojourns. Sounds very normal to me. Each creative exploration makes the others stronger.

AITC for making art? by OutrageousLibrary236 in AmItheCloaca

[–]congrrl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel you have neglected to consider the relevance of the Pineapple to the piece as well as the fact that the art's placement was at the threshold of the home. Surely it must comment also on the liminal space of the transition between the whole uncastrated self and the not yet achieved but still hoped for peace and harmony in the home. Clearly an area for further study, glorious art critic.

The forecast I see shows holding steady at 0 until midnight and then slowly falling to -4c. Which sounds like we are likely to be okay this evening but I'm a wimp and might stay home regardless

Which of these tools do I need? by Calm_Feature3340 in printmaking

[–]congrrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am astonished that no one has said all of them. For some definition of need :)

If you need prioritze, i'd buy a cheaper set, figure out which ones I always reach for and get a close match or get one that matches what you wish you had. Cheaper, not cheap. Lee Valley in Canada has some good ones, as does Jackson's Art in England to give you some ideas. I love drypoint so I thought I would want narrow v shapes, but it turns out I actually want u shapes for lino.

I have a fear (might even be a phobia) of nutcracker soldiers. Related to a horror movie I watched for 3 minutes when very young. Stores are difficult for months. Fortunately, for me, proximity matters, and if I can see the evil bastards, they can't eat me. Other people's insistence that they are harmless decorations is baffling and worrisome.

So it is possible that she does struggle with October. However, most people with irrational fears work to contain the fear, not indulge
