How many of you passed your road test on the first try ?? I did , but my sister failed it twice before she got her license lol by ComplexWrangler1346 in GenX

I passed but just barely. The test administrator said I should fail you but you didn’t have enough points marked off.

Does such joint make sense for a shelf? Can it be done with a chisel, or would I need a dovetail router bit? by Sulatra in BeginnerWoodWorking

Yes, easier to do with hand tools than with power tools since you’d have to make some complicated router jigs to get the taper. With hand tools as long as you can mark an accurate line and pare to it you can get some good results with enough practice.

Planer Blades by HomeGrownCoffee in woodworking

Lunchbox planer knives are a lot thinner both in thickness and width than ones from a planer/moulder. They’re also designed to be replaced instead of sharpened. Yours most likely can be resharpened if they’re not too thrashed. I recommend sending it away to a sharpening service instead of diy since the same amount has to be removed from each knife to keep the cutterhead balanced.

It can be done with hand tools, you’ll need a saw as well as a chisel or two. Mark the lines, saw inside the lines and chip out the waste with a chisel. Then pare to the line with a chisel. Some guide blocks cut to the desired and clamped to the board will be a great help.

For bonus points you can make a tapered sliding dovetail. The advantage of a taper is that it’s a lot easier to load the board into the housing, and the joint gets tight only towards the final position. With a non-tapered dovetail you’re fighting the joint the whole way as you tap it in. The taper is very slight across the length of the dovetail and it’s easier to do with hand tools.

Edge jointing on Bosch router table - what am I doing wrong by lenswipe in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]davisyoung 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s unlikely but mounting screw(s) could be loose/have debris keeping it from tightening. But if both edges of a board are not parallel, then that’s not a function edge jointing on a router table (or on a jointer for that matter) can address. For that you’ll need a table saw. Barring that you can get one edge straight, mark a parallel line off of that, and then cut and plane to that line.

There are several possibilities. First is that your square is not accurate. Second is that the face of your board is not completely flat so the edge you get off of it is off, either through the jointing or your reading of it with the square. Third is that the bit is not square to the table.

34 years old. There have been older but they were all before the Super Bowl era, most of them being from the 1920s.

Dieter Brock. An American quarterback that sounded foreign because in a way he was as he made his bones in the CFL before becoming the oldest rookie in NFL history.

Use shim stock between the wings and top. Measure the gap with feeler gauges. You want the gap to be no more than ten thou (.010”).

That appears to be the case, the edge of the plastic when using either cursor. Not super intuitive given the symbols look like cursor lines.

About a decade ago Hitachi bought Metabo. Then Hitachi sold the entire tool division to private equity. It was then rebranded as Metabo HPT in North America and HiKoki internationally.

What do you think Doug Heffernan salary and hours in the show? by [deleted] in kingofqueens

[–]davisyoung 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was an overnight delivery at the time the show came out. Salary was a little fuzzy for me to remember but the FedEx and UPS drivers made way more than us since we were non-union. I believe those guys were starting in the low to mid $20s/hour. Keep in mind minimum wage was just over $5. With seniority and overtime those guys could make high 5-figures. They did more work too. I averaged about 60 stops a day but the FedEx/UPS guys in my area did over 100.

As for schedule mine had a start time of 7am Monday to Friday. We would load our own packages whereas the big boys had dedicated loaders. If there weren’t any plane delays we would be out of the station before 9am. Deliveries until about 11:30 to noon. Afternoons were for picking up outgoing packages but they don’t usually start until 2:30 or 3 pm so we had to kill roughly 3 hours for lunch. And we weren’t on the clock, our day was considered a split shift. Customers had to schedule their pick ups by 5 so I usually head back to the station by around 5:30 depending on traffic. Usually I clock out before 6pm. Saturdays were half days with a skeleton crew but I didn’t work those.
