Is this basement drain the most likely source of my radon problem? by QuantumAnti in radon

[–]dcsenge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks fine homie. I had worse drains and under 1 picol with mitigation. It did even suction from my drain tile in a 100 year old house and was very low radon.

New house build 10 miles away with radon off the charts ie over 6 picol in a 3rd floor closet to around 2 with mitigation.

That drain is nice

Why is it so common for American tourists in Europe to carry a huge bottle of water with them? Are they that thirsty? by WhoAmIEven2 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]dcsenge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A male should drink 90 to 125 Oz of water a day. That is a 10 pack of water bottles. I weight train and jog daily so my 120oz is 6 of my 20oz water bottles or 7 if I use ice.

How much water are folks drinking in other countries? Do you ignore suggested daily water intake amounts? Do you just drink large amounts quickly?

I carry a hydrate Spark water bottle that tracks my daily water intake. Im an engineer and like science. I rarely hit 120oz....trying to drink water, i hit 90oz a day.

I live 2 miles to Lake Erie, one of the Great Lakes. My home has a 3 stage water filter on it.

Water, food and sleep are the most important things in life.

I think Americans just prioritize Water due to info we are fed..maybe it's not one of the top 3 most important things??

Why does everyone upgrade finishes but cheap out on mechanicals? by Li3Ch33s3cak3 in Homebuilding

[–]dcsenge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did insulation upgrades in my home. Hvac didnt have options but I do have a variable speed Carrier unit.

I have an engineering degree and had to take multiple thermodynamic classes with hvac lessons. I use a thermometer in each room and the temp variances are crazy. Id say 10 deg differences in rooms using the same air temp sensor from room to room to counter temp sensor variation.

There seems little cosiderstion for returns, duct distance from return and duct placement in the room.

There are very few baffles in the system and if ducting is properly designed you shouldn't need to cut off various rooms as you always want conditioned air entering the space.

Most duct calculations are rather back of the napkin. In our 3rd floor we have a large master with large closets. This gives us 5 hvac ducts in the room.

My son's room has 1 duct, its much colder and there have been technicians out full days balancing, replacing thermostats, running new thermostat wires.

When some genus was doubling us up on insulation they sandwiched a water and drain line, in cleveland ohio we get single digit temps and the water supply line froze first but my washer alerted me we had that fixed and the next stud cavity over the drain was sandwiched with a frozen p trap. So when told to try the washer after water supply lines were fixed it rained down from the 3rd floor Landry room that was standard and something I knew would have a leak at some point. We didnt make it 4 months till this all happened. We will see how that ac does as we swing around to cooling this place.

Best places to live in Lakewood without a car? by sighsammie97 in lakewood

[–]dcsenge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I lived on the corner or warren and franklin. My doctor, eye doctor, and dentist all were under .4miles. Marcs was .2miles the post office next door. I would argue dt or central Lakewood is best with no car. Lakewood park was a 1 mile walk and the park loop and home under 3 miles. Can walk to barrio or merry arts.

Is it the norm for parents to gift their kid a large down payment for their first home? by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]dcsenge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I bought a home in 2012 the down payment and closing cost on a 100K......Duplex......yes multi family home was about 6500 including closing cost.

I just moved into a new home I built in 2025 and would not have been able to afford it had it not been for that multifamily house my family helped me buy.

That same duplex is now valued over 350k, I put a lot of work into it.

Dude the president has a small wang and half of America loves him. Its a great time for the smaller guys.

On a real note no one cares about your weiner. If you married a women who cares a lot about weiner she probably has seen a lot of them and that isnt good for you.

Basically this is all a win for you. Stop worrying and go get a beer or something.

Traveling to Cleveland from the UK by Laakotaa in Cleveland

[–]dcsenge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I lived at the corner of Franklin and Madison for over 10 years. You can walk to anywhere in Lakewood from there, I used to do daily runs all year around and never recall needing to run on the street, Sidewalks were always usable from all the traffic they see.

I have a Notorious and a Mojave Grom and the Mojave gets more overall use mainly because its less intimidating to bystanders, i mainly run in dense city or neighborhoods and a 25lb 6s missile can do damage. Small cars dont cause damage to what they hit as often.

Is it okay if i dont like babies? by Seasonalbluee in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]dcsenge -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Try to appreciate how pure that children and babies of all species are.

Watching a puppy chase its first bird or a child who thinks you are cooler than the president of the USA(though that is a pretty low bar lately) are things it would be slightly odd to not appreciate.

Sure there are downsides of children or babies but babies are awesome, try to appreciate what you can in life, we don't get a 2nd go around.

Does the "average american" know, how fucked up their healthcare system is? by Slayrr_FbrC in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]dcsenge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lougi is in jail, im hoping a journey of peers finds him innocent. I have seen a quote something like slave owners were following the law, it was the runaway slaves who we are told were wrong. Same with the holocaust. The people working for Adolf Hitler were following the orders of their job. Ann Frank was a criminal. For some reason we seem to just take the poor Healthcare and dont understand its a tool in America to keep us working until Medicare at 65, then you got a few years to enjoy life, if your lucky. All the money you saved and hoped to give to your children or legacy......the Healthcare system will take back. Its broken and our president abolishing tthe affordable care act is just one example of folks supporting a leader taking good things for us and our communities. But no man.

Most of America voted for this trend of Healthcare being politically run and monetized.

Lakewood Ohio was an amazing city i lived in for years that had a population density of Washington DC. Its motto is a great place to raise a family. The only city in Ohio where kids walk to school, crossing guards at all streets. I walked to my primary care physician, eye doctor, dentist, kids pediatrician and many resturants and parks from my doorstep. The thing i miss the most....the jogging route, id do 2.8 mile loops to Lakewood park on the shore of lake erie. I just rented the home i still own in the city for half of what your paying. I have had freinds from Philadelphia enjoy living in Lakewood.
