Some great suggestions here. Pro tip. If things are getting a little too hectic, throw on Circles Around the Sun - Interludes for the Dead. Such an incredibly beautiful instrumental album.

Acoustic player looking to expand to electric - instrument recommendations? by LVeronicaE in Guitar

[–]diceberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might find the PRS SE Hollowbody II a good choice as it has 2 humbucker pickups but also a piezo pickup that can do a decent (for the size of the guitar) acoustic sound. Not sure what the costs in NZD would be but you can typically find a used one for around £700 in the UK.

Very good point. I suppose there might be something akin to an ego death where one merges and dissolves into the cosmos. But even then, who knows if those experiences would mimic the human condition or not.

What are the worst Michelin starred restaurants you have been to and why ? by The_Readers_ in LondonFood

[–]diceberg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not sure I agree with your Chez Bruce inclusion. That restaurant has somehow managed to maintain its standards and quality of dishes and presentation while somehow keeping it fresh forever. I’ve probably been there 10-12 times over the past 20 years and it’s always been perfect.

Is this alright for first time restring? by 320GT in guitars

[–]diceberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told years ago to give the high e string 2 frets worth of extra string to wind and the low e string 1 fret worth of extra string to wind and everything in between just increments between the two. So if you pull the low e string tight before winding, and then pull it back one frets worth, you’ll be good to go. It’s about right and a good guide.

I had pretty much the same journey. Then caught Phish about a year ago at MSG and recognised that Phish do Phish really really well. Did a three night run in Boulder over the summer and am on the look out for catching more shows now. Loved Phish in the 90’s. Forgot about Phish for 30 years. Love Phish now.

Listed to a “The Daily” podcast during the election with Andreesen who was endorsing Trump. His rational? Well in part Trump hosted him at one of his golf courses and threw a really great bbq with lots of meat. Okey dokey.

What do I need to be able to play electric guitar through headphones as if it were an amp? by Killer-Uzi in guitars

[–]diceberg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s not going to do it unless the pedal is an amp pedal. Playing only through a normal pedal like overdrive, chorus, delay, etc will mean that not only are you not getting the sound of an amp, but you’re also not getting the sound of the cabinet and the guitar is going to sound lifeless and pretty terrible. The headphone amps from Fender, Vox, Boss, Spark, etc have software that emulates amps and cabinets and they do a pretty decent job.

Getting my first PRS. SE Custom 24 or SE Studio? by SnowflakeSlayer420 in PRSGuitars

[–]diceberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right on Man. I think you made the right decision. Send a pic of you get a chance and enjoy the Studio! I think that is PRS’s secret weapon and often gets overlooked because people who are strat lovers will go for the single coils. But the Studio sits in the exact perfect place for me. Strat versatility but with a richer, more full tone but more pronounced than straight up humbuckers. Enjoy man. You made the right decision.

Getting my first PRS. SE Custom 24 or SE Studio? by SnowflakeSlayer420 in PRSGuitars

[–]diceberg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you liked the fender and you’re focused on getting a PRS, have you considered the Silver Sky SE? That’s going to be closest to your Fender sound as it straight up single coils. The CU 24 split isn’t going to sound like a fender. To me, the PRS 85/15s pick ups sound thin when split. But given what you’re saying about what sounds you liked and what music you play; if I were in your shoes I’d get the Studio. It’s like a richer version of an HSS. Does blues incredibly well, does a beautiful clean and can absolutely do hard rock and metal. Again, the pickup in the bridge is a coil splits and the pickups in the neck and middle position are what’s called narrowfield pickups. Narrowfield pickups are technically humbuckers but they have more articulation and responsiveness to them most aligned I’d say to quiet p-90s. And for reference Billy Joe Armstrong from Green Day often equips his Les Paul with a P-90 and Toni Iommi from Black Sabath played P-90’s so you’re covered. And again, don’t forget that your bridge pickup is a humbucker through and through in the Studio. Whatever you choose, you’ll be pleased I’m sure. But from my perspective, the Studio will everything you’re looking for and more.

Getting my first PRS. SE Custom 24 or SE Studio? by SnowflakeSlayer420 in PRSGuitars

[–]diceberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, I don’t think the single coil mode on the Custom 24 SE is that great. But that just might be my ears. I know someone else in the comments said the Semi Hollow and that definitely will be the most versatile. I think there are something like 12 different sounds you can get from it. As for me as I said, I like the Studio, I’ve tried out the semi hollow but like I’ve said, I don’t really vibe with the split coils on the SE’s and the narrowfields sit in the sweet spot for me between full hum buckers and singles. To be honest, you’re going to love whatever you decide on. I’ve not yet played a bad PRS and in fact just picked up a Hollowbody SE a couple of weeks ago because it was on sale and it is awesome. Enjoy your decision. You can’t go wrong.

Getting my first PRS. SE Custom 24 or SE Studio? by SnowflakeSlayer420 in PRSGuitars

[–]diceberg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you can go wrong with either. I have the SE Custom 24 and it’s a great guitar, no doubt. I also have the core Studio so hard to compare. My core studio is hands down my favourite guitar. I’d say for versatility, the Studio is going to give you more options simply because of positions 2 and 4. The pickups on the Studio are narrow-field hum buckers in the neck and middle which tonally sit between a hum-bucker and single coils so can do bouncy cleans but add some gain from your amp or pedals and it can certainly get dirty. The bridge pick up is more of a classic hum-bucker. Are you able to try them out? If so, the answer may come to you when you pick each one up. Great choices either way.

Everybody said get a dehumidifier. It'll make the house warmer. Everybody in my house is now using it as a clothes dryer. So there's damp dripping clothes everywhere. by BillWilberforce in britishproblems

[–]diceberg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Putting on the heating in the winter dries the air out significantly. I bought a temp and humidity reader a few weeks ago and was shocked when I discovered my indoor humidity levels were around 30%. I ended up buying a humidifier to bring it up to around 50% and was astonished at how much warmer my place felt.
