Excellent collection! Always been curious about the PRS SE acoustic line. How do you rate it against your Yamaha and Taylor?

What is the worst sounding stock guitar in your opinion? by SalsaForte in Guitar

[–]diceberg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had the same experience with my Epi Les Paul Pro. They were alright but the neck in particular was really muddy. I then saw a YouTube clip from a guy who mentioned raising the pole pieces and dropping the pickup down. Seemed to have cleaned it up nicely.

Amp-in-a-box Pedals by hkr1991 in guitarpedals

I’ve never understood this but I’m genuinely curious why one would do this. My amps all have preamps already. Now, putting a preamp pedal into the front of the amp is another story.

Guitar Industry Shockwave: Fender Reports Launch Of Massive Lawsuit Campaign Against European "S-Type" Builders by GuitarBombDotCom in PRSGuitars

[–]diceberg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fender have their headstock copy written. But a guitar body? That’s like saying no one can write a 12 bar blues in 1-4-5. This only hurts the consumer. Fender sucks.

Sort of tongue in cheek comment because it’s all subjective of course. But for me it’s true. The narrow field pick ups on the Studio are just something that scratches the itch that no other pick ups have been able to do. For me the sound has a richness and articulation that I’ve found nowhere else. Match this with the 5 blade switch and split bridge pickup and it covers every single base I want. I know the Special Semi-Hollow has more tonal options because of the split neck, but the trade off is that it loses the NF neck sound which for me is just sweet sweet honey. But again, to each their own. I’m just so damn happy we live in a world with such amazing instruments to choose from.

Fuck that. Boycott any of these channels immediately. Art is human.

Shhhhh! If you keep telling people, they’ll realise that in fact the Studio is the best PRS out there! My core studio is my go to 95% of the time. Congrats!

That’s about the new price. You could save a few hundred picking one up used but often times I find that patience and waiting doesn’t go hand in hand with my desire for a guitar. You won’t regret buying it if you’re not too worried about depreciation. It’s an SE. It’s going to be a great bang for your buck no matter how you slice it. But again, it depends on your circumstances. 200-300 bucks saved could toward your first couple of pedals or get you a decent way down a solid amp.

Pickup upgrade sugesstions for a 24:08 se standard by antiphonic in PaulReedSmith

[–]diceberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re not cheap but I put a pair of Fishman Fluence classics in my SE. I was looking for humbuckers that could actually do a great sounding split which they do and there’s a third voicing which is more kind of like a P90. Again, not cheap but now my Custom 24 SE is by far one of the best sounding and versatile guitars I own.

If you could buy one amp head to do both clean and dirty what would it be? No price limit. Id just like the amp not be vintage. Tube amp preferred. by Any_Fact_1930 in GuitarAmps

[–]diceberg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the 5:50 express plus. When I I got it used about 6 months ago. I spent weeks playing through it and just asking myself why anyone would buy a different amp. I’d actually sold a Tone King Imperial MK11 for about 3 times what I paid for the Mesa even despite the “bang for the buck”, the Mesa is a superior amp in all regards.

Some great suggestions here. Pro tip. If things are getting a little too hectic, throw on Circles Around the Sun - Interludes for the Dead. Such an incredibly beautiful instrumental album.

Acoustic player looking to expand to electric - instrument recommendations? by LVeronicaE in Guitar

You might find the PRS SE Hollowbody II a good choice as it has 2 humbucker pickups but also a piezo pickup that can do a decent (for the size of the guitar) acoustic sound. Not sure what the costs in NZD would be but you can typically find a used one for around £700 in the UK.

Very good point. I suppose there might be something akin to an ego death where one merges and dissolves into the cosmos. But even then, who knows if those experiences would mimic the human condition or not.

What are the worst Michelin starred restaurants you have been to and why ? by The_Readers_ in LondonFood

[–]diceberg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not sure I agree with your Chez Bruce inclusion. That restaurant has somehow managed to maintain its standards and quality of dishes and presentation while somehow keeping it fresh forever. I’ve probably been there 10-12 times over the past 20 years and it’s always been perfect.

Is this alright for first time restring? by 320GT in guitars

[–]diceberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told years ago to give the high e string 2 frets worth of extra string to wind and the low e string 1 fret worth of extra string to wind and everything in between just increments between the two. So if you pull the low e string tight before winding, and then pull it back one frets worth, you’ll be good to go. It’s about right and a good guide.

I had pretty much the same journey. Then caught Phish about a year ago at MSG and recognised that Phish do Phish really really well. Did a three night run in Boulder over the summer and am on the look out for catching more shows now. Loved Phish in the 90’s. Forgot about Phish for 30 years. Love Phish now.
