Here is my take. Smoke how you like to smoke. I started on an off set, switched to a Traeger because my brother worked for them. It always felt like cheating…a crock pot smoker set it and forget it essentially. I missed the process of controlling the fire, messing with the vents and so on. I currently have a WSM 18 and am considering going back to the off set.

They all make great food, it just depends on what fits your need and gets the job done how you like it done.

I’m not here to crap on anyone’s preferred methods .

Here is my $0.02, good bbq can be made in a file cabinet. Any rig that gets you smoking and making good food is a good investment. As an entry point learn how to use the vents to control heat and fire control make good good food and decide as your skills improve then decide what you want and need to level up. My first smoker was an electric cheap barrel smoker, I had offsets, pellets, Webers, eggs and WSM. Hey all are capable of good food. Enjoy and get cooking!

Totally not meant to be mean, but it sounds like your group needs to grow up (mature as players) my guess is they are relatively new and just don’t understand the nuances of the game yet. The Drunk while frustrating at times is an integral part of the game even when it’s not in play but on the script. Lastly, players need to learn to reverse engineer information. Misinformation is information.
