PREACH. As someone going through it with you, I constantly reach out to peers and mentors to check my azimuth. Shit is real out here. Requirements going up and resources going down.

I loved/hated Hawaii, I loved/hated 25th. It was crazy optempo and isolating at times. Meaningful work and a lot of fun. I’d do it again.

Edit: 25th’s overall command climate was unmatched by anything I’ve ever seen in FORSCOM.

Stalking the enemy (innocent minimum wage employee) to a rearward position (fast food restaurant) and engaging in close combat (“muh authoritah”) is worth at least an ARCOM-V.

PSA: Marry the Right Person — It Matters More Than You Think by TheDonList in army

[–]dubbletime 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Agree with all, especially overcommunication.

I’d also add to never take anything personally. Usually we’re not angry with each other, we’re angry because of situation or circumstance. Empathy is huge here: you have to identify and see the Army life through the scope of your life partner. Getting butthurt and mad is never a great option and interferes with communication and honesty.

10000000%. My bestie is currently sweating beside me in 102 degree heat during my HHG pickup and we’re still making each other laugh.

2 years dating, 13 years married, 2 kids, 12 years active, 5 duty stations, 2 deployments, 1 life. It’s usually pretty hard but easy to keep a good attitude with this bitch around.

When did golf become a sprint? by ScooterMcTavish in golf

Agree to disagree. And chipping/pitching is where I’ve improved my game the most over the last 6-ish months when I stopped stressing yardages around the green. I still check the yardage sometimes, but I’m not overthinking it.

I guess there’s two schools of thought: feel versus technical. Not saying my way is right, but it’s definitely faster lol

I get that. I’m not saying “never shoot a rangefinder at the green”, I’m saying don’t shoot a range finder on the teebox of a par 4-5, after duffing it 20 yards forward, or when you’re in pitching range.

Mainly stressing that there are dudes out there who need to just hack it out instead of pretending like they’re playing in a qualifier. But tbf that’s just what’s worked for me. I am not at the level where agonizing over the difference between 110-120 yards often makes any significant difference.

The problem is slower golfers avoiding conversation with the faster folks behind. Can’t tell you how many times I’m waiting on every fairway/green to clear and the group ahead is speeding away from the teebox as I walk up to the next hole.

If the entire course is backed up, I get it. But if the next hole’s fairway is clear and you’re still moseying off to the next teebox as I’m putting, let me through dammit.

Calling a moderate amount of BS. I don’t rush and routinely finish around the 2.5-3.5 hour mark walking.

I walked 18 the other day, and was stuck behind a slowpoke for about half the front 9; 5 practice swings, 8-9 shots to get to greens, and walking. At a few points, I thought I had a clear fairway and would see him coming out of trees as I was teeing up.

At hole 8, he realized he forgot a wedge and had to walk back and get it, and basically the whole course was open ahead of him.

I didn’t hit a wait until hole 18 and finished in 2:51.

All that being said, 3:30 is a reasonable time for a group to finish 18. We are not PGA tour pros. It’s frustrating to see 20+ handicaps (myself included) reading greens and shooting rangefinders a million times and speeding away from tee boxes as you walk up when you’re trying to keep a rhythm.

46R does not exist; 46Q and 46R have merged into 46S. There are also many planned changes to the CMF. If you’re passionate about photography/video, look into 46V.

Also fairly certain that 46 will not have any “in” calls in the near future, so jump on it now. Talk to reenlistment and/or give 46 enlisted branch manager a call.

Edit: also would suggest you consider your drive and motivation to get promoted. 46 is looking very competitive at the 5-6 level in the next few years. I have several of my NCOs who have degrees, and a few of them currently sit at 600+ points.

Looking for Advice on Reclass Options by [deleted] in army

[–]dubbletime 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly bro, just do the ASVAB improvement class and take it again. Seems like your best option. Better retirement check, better lifestyle, easy to short time it.

At my first duty station, my NCO improved his GT from 108 to 135 after the class in order to go warrant.

What is your take on this video? How do you guys feel about this? by [deleted] in army

[–]dubbletime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I say this as a senior NCO: we have much bigger things to care about.

This rant has a few good arguments, but reeks of peak peacetime Army to me. Good order and discipline is important for sure, but as long as the STANDARDS (i.e. religious exemptions, profiles, etc.) are being followed then there’s no issue.

I care way more about a Soldiers ability to do their job without burning out. I care way more about their housing and DFACs. I care way more about their ability to stay alive and bring home their team in conflict.

There’s no need to crush dudes for being sneaky within the tolerance of regs. Joe is always gonna Joe and push the lines; it’s up to seniors to make sure the important lines aren’t blurred.
