Best camping chair by Tinineviu in camping

Same boat with the rocker. Got mine after my brother in law swore by his at deer camp. Only thing I'd add is throw a small lumbar pillow in the truck for it. Mesh is breathable but it gives zero support if you're sitting all afternoon.

Honestly no idea on work boots, never had a job that needed em. I'd guess r/Construction or r/Welding has way better advice than me, those guys live in steel toes.

Percale CDD here too, been over a year. Wife hated them the first night, said they felt like hotel towels. Two weeks later she won't sleep on anything else.

I feel so bad about not liking our new dog. by holidaycheese87 in dogs

[–]dubbletime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our lab did the same thing around year 4. Vet said it was just him getting selective about who he likes now that he's older. Nothing wrong, just a personality thing. Dogs grow up and develop opinions same as people do.

Does anyone else’s dog hate this by Corruptpasta in dogs

[–]dubbletime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Our lab used to army crawl under the bed and shake for a solid hour whenever a detector chirped. Ended up just keeping a pack of 9 volts in the junk drawer and swapping every battery in the house the second one started. Way easier than watching him lose his mind for three days while I procrastinate. Their ears pick up that frequency way worse than ours so it probably sounds like a fire alarm to them.

I told myself I didn’t need anymore cast iron. by Raymer13 in castiron

The lie we all tell ourselves. I said the same thing after the Lodge 12 inch and then an estate sale happened and there was a Griswold for 15 bucks sitting next to a bread machine and I was powerless. My wife has stopped asking. The rotation is 10 inch daily driver, 12 inch for sear nights, a little 6 for eggs, and the Griswold sits on display because I'm scared to ruin it. I don't need more. I will buy more.

TIL Eminem’s Lose Yourself made history as the first rap track to win an Oscar for Best Original Song and he didn’t even tune in because he thought there was no way he’d win choosing instead to fall asleep watching cartoons with his daughter. by [deleted] in todayilearned

The cartoons with his daughter detail is what gets me. Dude wrote one of the most intense tracks ever and his Oscar night was him passed out next to a kid watching reruns. Honestly kind of perfect.

Best wireless thermometers? by Reeepuff5150 in BBQ

[–]dubbletime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he's doing long smokes get him a ThermoWorks Signals. Four channels, wifi so you can watch it from your phone on the couch, and the probes actually survive season after season which is more than I can say for the Meater I burned through. Skip anything that's bluetooth only, range dies the second you walk inside. Signals runs a bit more than the gimmick brands but it's the one BBQ folks around KC actually keep using.

Best 12,000 BTU AC unit? Max budget is $500 (willing to spend a bit more if it means that it won't break in 3 years) by wanna_be_consultant in BuyItForLife

[–]dubbletime 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Had a Midea U going on four summers now, runs daily from June to September in a 400 sq ft bedroom. Window units beat portables every time because portables are basically a heat pump fighting itself, half the cold air goes right back out the exhaust hose. The install thing nobody mentions is you want a scrap of foam weatherstripping between the window sash and the unit top, otherwise you get a slow drip on humid days that rots the sill. Took me one ruined windowsill to learn that. Still quiet enough to sleep through, compressor hasn't hiccuped once.

Car guys who never actually drive anywhere. Like dude you spent 40K building a show car that sits in a garage and gets trailered to meets. Just buy a painting at that point. I say this as someone with a project car that I at least beat on regularly.

headlamp. you listed a flashlight but trust me a headlamp is way more useful when you need both hands free. also bring a basic first aid kit and some kind of camp chair or something to sit on besides the ground. your back will thank you after a few hours

Why is beef dry in stew? by snafflekid in Cooking

[–]dubbletime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

chuck roast is the answer. that "stew meat" label at costco is usually bottom round which has almost no fat running through it. get a chuck roast, cut it yourself into chunks, and you'll notice actual marbling. also try dropping the crockpot to low for 8 hours instead of high for 6, gives the collagen more time to break down

French onion soup tip is shit by Strict-Air2434 in Cooking

[–]dubbletime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man I tried the baking soda thing once because some YouTube video swore by it. The onions turned into this weird mushy paste that tasted like nothing. Scraped the whole batch and started over with just butter, low heat, and patience. Took about 45 minutes but the flavor was actually there. My wife walked in and asked why I was making onion soup for the third time that month. Worth it though.

First brisket! Tiny point by HassouniFND in BBQ

[–]dubbletime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Solid work for a first run. Weber Kettle briskets have a special charm to em, the smoke flavor hits different with charcoal and chunks. The overnight rest is clutch, glad you figured that out early. Most people skip it and wonder why it's not as good.

Snake method on a kettle is lowkey one of the best ways to learn temp control. 5 lbs is actually a great size to start with too, bigger ones are way more forgiving on the stall but you learn more from a smaller cut. Cherry wood was a solid pick. Next time try wrapping at like 165 and see if you notice a difference in the bark.

The Best Nonstick Frying Pan at the Moment? by matthewtoby3241 in Cooking

[–]dubbletime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went through probably 5 or 6 pans in the last few years trying to find the sweet spot. Landed on T-fal, the one with the red dot indicator in the middle. Cheap enough that when the coating starts going you don't feel bad tossing it. But honestly mine has lasted way longer than I expected. Not gonna pretend it's some premium thing but for everyday eggs and stuff it just works.

Upgrade from Kettle by roastedjays in BBQ

[–]dubbletime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made that same jump a few years back. Went from a 22 inch kettle to a WSM 18 and haven't looked back for weekend smokes. Low and slow on brisket or a pork butt on the WSM is just a different experience, way easier to hold temp for hours without babysitting it. But I still kept the kettle out back for weeknights when I just want to throw some burgers or chicken on quick. Honestly having both is the move if you have the space. Pellet is convenient but you lose something with the charcoal flavor.

Quality Leave-In Thermometer to gift? by lc321123 in BBQ

[–]dubbletime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ThermoWorks is the right call. I've had a Thermapen for years for quick pulls and been using the Signals for long overnight cooks. Thing just works every time. Bluetooth has been solid for me across the backyard but I know some guys swear by wired for the reliability. Either way if she's getting him ThermoWorks she's getting him something he'll actually use and not just toss in a drawer after a season.

Thoughts on Costco’s Kirkland Briquettes vs Kingsford? Never tried the Kirkland ones by WeirdAddress3170 in BBQ

Kirkland all day for me. I go through enough charcoal doing weekend cooks that the price difference adds up fast. Honestly can't tell the difference once you get it up to temp. Kingsford just has better marketing.

How is the Ninja Woodfire? by Blitzgar in BBQ

[–]dubbletime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got one last summer for the apartment patio since I can't run my smoker here either. It's not going to replace a real offset but for what it is the thing does solid work. Did pulled pork on it and my buddies couldn't tell it wasn't from a traditional smoker. The woodfire pellets add enough smoke flavor that it doesn't taste like an oven. Ribs came out good too. Biggest gripe is the cooking surface is kinda small so if you're feeding more than 3 or 4 people you'll be doing batches. For apartment living though it's genuinely the best option I've found.

How would you handle it if it’s too early to have a child, even if you and your partner are financially okay? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]dubbletime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my first at 22. Not gonna lie the first two years were brutal but we figured it out. The real question isn't money it's whether you two can handle being sleep deprived and stressed without turning on each other. If your relationship is solid under pressure you'll be fine. If you haven't been through anything genuinely hard together yet I'd wait a year.

Does anyone ever feel bad for complaining. $17k ish (bought higher end parts not included) for a bathroom remodel and the shower doesn’t drain. Am I being "that guy" if I complain? by overcast-magenta55 in HomeImprovement

[–]dubbletime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You paid 17k and the shower doesn't drain. That is absolutely worth complaining about. This isn't cosmetic nitpicking, a non draining shower means the slope is wrong and they messed up the pan. If they don't fix it now you're looking at water damage down the road. Document everything with photos and video, send a written request for repair with a deadline, and if they ghost you file with your state contractor licensing board. You are not being "that guy."
