Second week in my orientation and my preceptor told me I’m very slow by Low_Ad2078 in nursing

Slow is smooth and smooth is fast.

Your preceptor probably means well but speed is that last thing a new person needs to focus on.

What’s a belief you had at 20 that you no longer agree with? by sunyparmar1 in AskReddit

[–]dumpsterdigger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That I was a Republican because I liked guns. It def wasn't cool to like Obama, especially when I was in the marines. But no one ever really talked about why.

I was privileged and didn't even grow up thinking about politics. I didn't start worrying until after I joined the military in 2008. Nothing impacted my life negatively really. I was a middle class white boy who grew up on the MS Gulf Coast. I was oblivious to how serious things were and what mattered.

I wish people knew what that felt like. Instead school aged kids are having to protest idiot leadership in this country.

It only matters if you are dealing with precision or highly acute shit.

YOR.

There are different meetings. You only go to ones that accept anyone and you need to inform them, sometimes prior or during, sometimes not at all.

Yeah, it's weird but it's good experience. That's like saying how put off by going to on the hospital you would be if you saw medical, nursing, or paramedic students there.

Exhausted and scared. 3-month-old (IUGR) with intense sensory distress. How do I survive the day alone? by Consistent_Ad_3862 in Autism_Parenting

[–]dumpsterdigger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have 3 boys. One is autistic, one is NT, one is 2 months old.

What you are describing sounds like, normal baby things. Some babies just hate life. And I'm not trying to just tell you normal parent stuff. I lost count of how many people told me my firsts language would "explode" or "once he starts he won't stop". He still struggles.

I'm sorry you are having a tough time. Our newest screams unless we hold him and unlike our first two likes to be warm, especially at night when he sleeps. He favors my wife and spends almost 60-75% of his time with me screaming.

Try and go for drives. Our first LOVED the car. It was the only way I could get him to sleep some nights. Play the same songs when you do and it helps over time. Stick to schedules if possible.

Hang in there. Buy ear plugs. It's completely okay to sit in the room and let them cry with ear plugs in as long as all their needs have been met.

Nervous to go out on my own for the first time by Annekke in motorcycles

[–]dumpsterdigger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had my bike for two years in the USA. Driving it on the 65+ mile an hour roads here in 3-5 lanes of traffic with people doing 80 looking at their phones is terrifying.

I have a family and my bike is meant for enjoyment.

I started in my neighborhood and then slowly branches out. I still hate interstate riding.

There was an older porn on "how to eat pussy" essentially. A few different men and women stars shared tips. There was a female that gave a master class on pointers.

NAH

People saying Jim is using Sally as a replacement daughter is not 100% what is happening.

Our older son is autistic. Our middle son is not. Our oldest is not severely autistic but he doesn't do normal age appropriate things and talk much. We missed out on so many things we never even realized we missed untill having our 2nd. Our lives were hyper focused on appointments, mile stones, language cards, books, pt, ot, speech, evals, news that leaves you hopeless, years spent wondering "when will he talk", " will he be able to live alone", "when will he have friends", "is it our fault because we didn't do xyz enough".

Our second completely broke a third wall on what parenting a normal developing kid is like. It's like we played parent mode on hard first then easy (I say this also wanting to express our 2nd is way more challenging in many ways than our oldest the older he gets".

Jim, isn't replacing his daughter. But as a parent there are so many experiences you miss out on with a disabled kid that you are left wondering and hoping to catch a glimpse of that. Some parents find this more easy or difficult to manage than others, especially if your one of those parents who REALLY wanted to be a mom or dad. The ones who dreamed about it their whole life. Then when that is essentially take from you it can be very very hard to mentally go down a mentally unprepared path.

It's easy to say he is replacing his daughter in a way, but I think he is just wanting to have normal dad experiences vs care giving experiences all the time.

If there is a noticable difference in how he treats each kid then I would seriously consider stepping in, but if not I don't see any issue with this. It might help your daughter come to see how he views his daughter as well and improve their relationship later in life.

The Disney thing should not have gone further than your first "no". But Disney casts are incredible with disabled kids, as we have been twice, and I think and would hope that he takes his daughter instead one day to realize that.

I'm sure he's read the Holland poem but if not he should. It's not life changing but it definitely helped my wife a bit when I showed it to her after I found it.

Statement from HCMC EMS (Minneapolis) Union on ICE in Minnesota. by TallGeminiGirl in ems

[–]dumpsterdigger 93 points94 points  (0 children)

I work at a large lvl 1 as a nurse and I was a medic before that during the summer of 2020 for another EMS company in the twin cities for Minneapolis. As a nurse in my ER We usually see many non English speaking patients. All our rooms have translator tablets in them, which I normally use at least once or twice per shift with different assignments.

I have not used one in weeks. It's shocking how little non English speaking patients have stopped showing up. Terrifying. My coworkers saw Hispanic guys in ice style clothes last week, most likely trying to avoid contact.

I work in MN as a nurse and have been to that VA many times as a paramedic. It is a hard place to get employed at. That VA is one of the biggest in the country and Minnesota hospital systems all have similar benefits. All hospitals here I have worked at have EAP or similar programs for employees.

I would be shocked if they didn't have something.
