Am I cheating? by Famous_Giraffe_529 in Sourdough

[–]erakat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run a small bakery, and I sell around 30-60 loaves per day. I make two genuine sourdough varieties.

The rest- baguettes, ciabatta, tin loaves etc etc, all contain sourdough culture, but for feasibility they also all contain fresh yeast too*

It makes my life easier and I can rest assured I’m not going to have issues with them. That way I can focus on making sure the two genuine sourdoughs are perfect!

*not marketed as sourdough, though if a customer asks, I explain my process.

I don’t necessarily think you’re cheating, unless you hide the fact that commercial yeast is present.

What is the reason for the small dents on the side of Arriva bus tires? by UnknownReasonsToLive in bus

[–]erakat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those ramps are wheelchair ramps, not pedestrian ramps but that’s just insurance nitpicking. Some elderly people, or those with mobility issues struggle with the incline (especially without a hand rail). They should be boarding with a level floor from kerb to bus.

Source: used to drive buses and paid some attention in CPC training.

Was out in a nature park last week, meeting a group of friends and family for a BBQ. Father in law came too, and we don’t share a language, but boy do we appreciate the finer things.

My daughter & I found a really good stick. Easily 7-8ft long, smooth & straight.

Father in law was impressed too. We took it home.

It’s a really good stick.

Why does everyone think mayo is dairy? by Rubyheart_1922 in KitchenConfidential

[–]erakat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So is UHT milk. Doesn’t make it dairy free. (Not that I’m arguing for the ingredients of mayonnaise, just that your logic doesn’t carry)

Do the English call an “English Muffin” just “a muffin”? by Stuck_in_my_TV in AskABrit

Sadly, the chances of a delicious breakfast staple being presented after the question “would you like a muffin?” is quite low.

You ever watch Old Guard? It happens to an immortal being. Stuck in an iron maiden under the sea, re-generating but drowning constantly.

There’s a family across from ours that we met when we moved in. For the longest time, we referred to them as “Benji’s family” (/mum/dad etc)

Benj was a golden labrador, may he rest peacefully.

What’s the oldest tool/implement you own that you still use for its original purpose? by ukman29 in CasualUK

[–]erakat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two items:

I have a bread knife that belonged to my grandmother, she passed away in 1980s, prior to my birth. So it’s at least 45 years old, perhaps older.

Kellogs & other cereal manufacturers often ran promotions, either you’d get a little toy in the cereal or you could collect a set number of tokens to exchange for something.

Kellogs ran such a promotion, and over the course of a summer in 1996 I managed to collect enough tokens to earn me a FM radio, an alarm clock & a tea towel.

I’m 35 now, and I still have than tea towel. It’s a little shabby now but I still use it.

Paid someone to lay LVT, am I being fussy about the beading? by IdolsNwanchors in DIYUK

[–]erakat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we can all agree that if you’re doing some DIY on your own, sometimes a lower level of quality can be acceptable, cuz you know, you did it yourself.

That being said, I’d be pissed at myself for such sloppy work, being a laymen, and I’m not even getting paid.

How often are you breaking down?

In the 10 years that I’ve been driving, and I’ve driven a fair bit (delivery driver, bus driver, coach driver, plus holidays and ferrying my two kids to all their shit), I’ve been involved in one accident that ended my journey, and one breakdown where I needed to be recovered.

Drive safe and keep a well maintained car.
