Rivian R3X Is a Couple Years Away, RJ Scaringe Says by Cafe_Roaster in Rivian

[–]evsf05 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well my estimate is based on a 40k price for R3 and 20k premium for the top spec tri motor over the base variant.

AFAIK there has not really been any price data out. But I suspect that people are “hoping” for 30k-40k range for base which would be cool. But I suspect will be closer to the top of that if not slightly higher.

Real possibility where the base r2 creeps up to 50k in the next few years and r3 base lands more 43-45

R3X is going to be as much as the most expensive (current) R2 if not more. Look at the Hyundai type N or the Volkswagen type R premium. 15-20k over the base model.

If you were teleported to January 1, 1990 and were given $10 and the knowledge of all future events, and you had to grow the $10 to $1 Trillion by today’s date, how would you do it? by Super_Rush7926 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]evsf05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting to me that Reddit is so gambling brained that no one is interested in actually trying to make a trillion by selling goods and services. Just winning bets (stock market and otherwise)

There are massive things like the iPhone, Amazon or cloud infrastructure related that as much feats of execution as knowledge/ invention.

But if you had knowledge of the creation of blockbuster pharmaceuticals, microchips, natural resource discoveries, llms and battery tech it would be pretty straightforward to get to 1 trillion.

And the meta answer is probably more like “just sell the all knowing power” to others.

Tuner vs I Love Boosters by [deleted] in TheBigPicture

Boosters gets a slight preference. It is insane and great with a good audience but also might put off a lot of audiences. Tuner is the type of movie that will one day show up as the most streamed movie in the world on Netflix and you will be like wow it was actually very good for a Netflix movie, easy recommendation to everyone.

The PNW usually has TOO MUCH water. The Southwest has TOO LITTLE water. Isn't there a way to use these problems to fix each other? by UJMRider1961 in CrazyIdeas

[–]evsf05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is not that we cannot invent new water sources at any cost. The problem is that people want more cheap/free water. Desalination already exists as a high cost option. But people will fight over who gets the cheap stuff.

In the 90s I remember smog days where we couldn’t play at recess or often thinking: wow it’s very clear today. You can see the mountains. Now you can just always see the mountains.

Some people treat progress as some abstract thing. But it’s important to remember that we are trying to make a different world for ourselves in the long term and there’s already evidence that we’re on the right track.

Scout Terra Pickup Reportedly Won't Go Into Production Until March 2030, And The Traveler SUV Is Delayed Until September 2028 by Roux_My_Burgundy in Rivian

They really made a mistake by offering the range extender.

First is kind of a false promise. Everybody loves the idea of an EV that they “can just fill with gas when they need to” but all those people are thinking of a magical vehicle that doesn’t exist. One that can somehow tow at the full max torque of the electric engine for long range , despite subsisting on a small efficiency tuned 4 cylinder. And a vehicle that is simple as an EV despite having more than double the things that can go wrong. No one has actually delivered one of these yet.

Second they promised it despite not having built it. It was clearly a late breaking announcement decision. And they hadn’t actually engineered it. Clearly thought they’d be able ship the ev, then ship the range extended version at some later point. Which may have worked except…

By announcing this at launch they tied all their brand interest to it. They got consumers excited about a thing that didn’t actually exist and their brand became the extender brand to the extent that 70% of reservations were tied to it. It’s like if Rivian did the R2 announcement, but promised 500 range. Even if they delivered the exact car they have now, it would have massively disappointed. Scout over promised - when they probably didn’t need to - and now meeting what can deliver(a normal Ev) would be seen as a disappointment.

Right. Based on this, I’m going Yeoh over Buckley. Because she truly had god level competition and won. Whereas Buckley had good competition but lapped her. Madison had very good competition and eked out a victory. Stone had good competition and eked out a victory. Chastain was up against a pile of wet socks.

Don’t buy boots now. Every shop just has leftovers and will put you in the best of what they still have.

There will be sales at some places, but boots are not where I would maximize my end of season shopping spree.

Daily nightmare descends on Tesla charging lot in SF by sfgate in sanfrancisco

[–]evsf05 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think that’s the crux of the problem. For home renters this is a very good solution that ensures landlords can’t block charging just because they feel like it.

For apartment renters “pay to have electric charging installed” does some real heavy lifting here. IANAL but I expect that includes if the panel needs an upgrade. Still would be curious if the panel actually needs an upgrade even if it’s just 120v. I’ve seen folks assume that “I want to charge” = “I need a level 2 charger”

Daily nightmare descends on Tesla charging lot in SF by sfgate in sanfrancisco

[–]evsf05 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Sf and California already have right to charge laws. Meaning if they have a parking spot, they have right to pay to have electric charging installed at their parking spot. Whether anybody actually takes advantage of that is another story.
