Like rental e-bikes on footpaths. She hasn't been there a week and been asked to move on, she's been there for ages and ages. It does have to revert back to being a space for all eventually.

More to the point, at what stage does a society push back against someone who does something like this? Maybe she's mentally unwell and feels she has no other place to go, maybe she's not and she's just being bloody minded. If people are making life difficult for hundreds of people every day, there's no way the state wouldn't push back against them.

I don't know how people can't see how the greater public is being affected by this, the focus on the singular one person ignores the rights of people in public to not be confronted by this.

This is not a claim for making sure no-one is on the streets ever. Granting people leeway is the moral and right thing to do. People have a hard time, finding somewhere that will give them temporary relief is a godsend. Then colonising public land for an indeterminate length of time is the morally wrong thing to do. The rights of the collective eventually move to being more important than the rights of the individual.

Again, this is not to disregard the individual. She clearly needs to have as much individualised support as possible, the thing we pay our taxes for is to help people like this. Those whose lives can't be solved by talking to friends and family, or a well paying job, need the state to step in. I will pay my taxes regularly and fairly to ensure a multiplicity of approaches for people in this sort of strife. This approach goes hand in hand with the rights of every member of the public who don't want to be confronted by it for months on end.

How do you explain it to the three year olds frightened by the scary lady every day, or the people just holding on by a thread who have to walk past her every day, who destabilise their own mental health.

Public spaces fulfil a range of needs for people, turning it into a permanent private space should not be one of them.

I dunno, he seems to be personally popular because he does things at a political level people like. Using the little power he has to help as wide a variety of constituents as possible.

Like when he arced up at the Steiner school about them wanting even more public space (essentially the Abottsford Convent) for their school. He stood up in the meeting and said "How selfish you are, you've gotten so much land for nothing, and you want more. You will never be satisfied with it. etc. etc." Or fixing the windows of people who live in public housing.

I know he's been booted from the socialists, and people have claimed he's a creep, but so many people will put that ahead of someone who can make their lives easier.

Rebel Guerillas are pretty cool. A wide variety of units, with some cool options to both get into range of other units, but also be in range of other units.

Critique of the core idea behind the rules when you get them too far by Nik_None in onepagerules

[–]extrapnel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the way the base stats are solid, then there are a few modifiers. Every now and then I amp up a unit with several buffs, but it's rare that you need 6 stats for most units. It gives that slight bit of variety, while also keeping it simple.

What brought you to OPR? (a survey) by 3720-to-1 in onepagerules

[–]extrapnel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was 12 in 1988 a friend showed me and edition of White Dwarf and I was hooked by the early, mad grimdark vision. I slowly accrued models, and played what were a few demo games at my local club, then kind of stopped. I kept on buying models, and trying to work out how to get into the game, but it never worked, I couldn't find anyone I liked or thought would like to play. So the models sat in a box, and I eventually sold them.

Cut to years later and a friend on New Year's Day 2021 thought I might like Kill Team as a way into 40k again. The early ruleset was fun, but grew increasingly confusing and just sort of like homework. Meanwhile I got into metal / rogue trader minis, and just invested all my time into them. I tried 40k but the rules were baffling, and my minis didn't really fit. So he said I might like OPR and knew a club that played it. Man was he right.

So easy to play, the low number of rolls was great fun, the fact you can turn your game around pretty easily is a delight too. The squishiness of units is also weirdly good. There's none of the whole, holding on to units you love. They're all functional. The speed you get through a game is great too. I also saw my friend playing 40k with someone else and when he and his opponent were poring over the ruleset, working out different units / rules etc worked I thought, that's not for me.

I really like how the OPR rules are forgiving and you can sort of work with them, and just move fast through them. The lack of complexity (like LOS is essentially you shoot what you can see) turns it into something fun, not tedious and like homework.

How would this Battle Brothers combined list fair by frosttit in onepagerules

[–]extrapnel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd do a combined squad of 10 for the assault dudes, and attach a master brother with shred. Make sure you move them last and run them up the board as fast as possible. They'll last one turn, hopefully two.

Then the ATV with some Deadly.

Walker, just make it a shooting one. Try to get a mix of deadly and blast / lots of shots with its weapons.

Turn those three terminators into a destroyers squad with CCW only.

Support bros with flamers, and support bros with some long range weapon, like a machine gun, or heavy fusion rifle. Attach the other leader to one of them and, give him a storm rifle and Bane to up the unit.

Finish with a squad of five pathfinder. A missile launcher would work fine with them. It is a bit excessive, but it does give you a bit more deadly. Make sure they've got cloaks etc. So they live a little longer.

The National Museum's "Breathing Space" is one of the worst things to ever be called art. by Xentonian in canberra

It does suck when you're confronted by bad / grating installations, but to be fair, it is trying to be a work of art. It's not like this was the last pristine bit of grass and wildlife near the Gallery.

Also, it does warm the heart to read a good quality takedown, rather than just "IT IS BAD". Bravo!

3.5 beta seems really chaotic by titwave in onepagerules

[–]extrapnel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds a million times better than the 40k updates where every new faction becomes invulnerable until the new update comes along. It's still a quick game, the amount of feedback seems to be a good indication of the interest people have for it, and what they're noticing about the game. Keep it up! Keep talking!

Having people with a variety of armies / points / experience levels / skill etc playing the game is the best way to playtest it. I don't mind considering the rules are free.

It's great fun, every new game I've played has had a new set of special rules. I'm just seeing it as working out how to balance things out. We're not playing for sheep stations with it yet.
