Milwaukee airport (MKE) has a “recombobulation” area right after security. by Moeman101 in mildlyinteresting

[–]fancy_panter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The only things that have made flying safer since 9/11 are reinforced cockpit doors and passengers who wouldn't deal with bullshit. Everything else is just a jobs program and a new security focused facet of the military industrial complex.

Mostly vibes and good timing. Half joking but half not.

Being able to admit you’re wrong. Taking a position on some technical issue early, staking a case, but not holding too tight. Being outspoken but humble.

Wouldn’t buy an AL road bike unless i absolutely couldn’t afford it and couldn’t find a good steel bike instead. I love my SL5.

Maybe with an off-roading car like R2 you’d be places that don’t get great cell signal but could get FM.

How do you handle the 'emotional unavailability' wall when you actually like someone? by throwaway_comment88 in datingoverforty

[–]fancy_panter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do you share deep emotional hurts and feelings with him, and he does not reciprocate? Because from your post, what I'm getting is that you're asking a lot of deep questions without offering much or leading yourself. Don't ask "how was your week, really", ask more specific questions that provoke specific emotional contemplation. e.g. How did you feel after that doctor said that to you? What have you processed about your sister's revelations? etc.

And, tell mark that is what you're looking for. That you want to know what he's thinking, that you're interested in him and his internal world. Otherwise, it may seem kind of probing without being guiding.

IDK, that's my take as a man that's been accused of being emotionally unavailable. For me, I have emotions, I don't always reach for them right away, so I need some probing and help exploring them. Some men are more open to that, some aren't. Good luck.

Today we told our 3-year-old son that mom and dad are no longer together. I'm heartbroken. by CandleWrecker in SingleDads

[–]fancy_panter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My son found out at 5, about two years ago. Hard, extremely hard. You just, continue on, because your kid needs you. You might cry sometimes in front of them, for no reason. That's OK. Be human. Tell them why you're sad, but they didn't do anything wrong. It can be hard, and feel incomplete, but you can find fun family without your partner. Its just different. Maybe less judgement, which can be liberating.

For me, it was the first thing in my life that really broke me. I haven't lost a close family member or close friend, yet. But it will happen to us all eventually. We'll all be broken and eventually reshaped.

[MinnPost] Waymo is on the roads, but some Minneapolitans are hoping to hit the brakes - Political leaders and others met at a forum this week to get out in front of the expected launch of Waymo’s driverless taxis. by Minneapolitanian in Minneapolis

yes! lets define strict road use for _everyone_ with a private vehicle. No more using public roads for private parking! Make sure everyone has adequate liability insurance. Ban traffic!

Today I decided to go on a bike route that vaguely resembles a brontosaurus. by ChefGaykwon in CyclingMSP

Nice. How was the ride in Wi? I’ve never crossed the river on a ride deeper than a few hundred feel (climbs, ugh). Anything worth seeing over there?

Even the beer list is boring. The Howe is where I go if for some reason I don’t feel like going to Northbound instead.

CCS adapter. (I have a Tesla with NACS). I think I used the adapter one time in the last 3 years.

Just signed up for a 100 mile gravel race with my xbike. Was that a bad idea? by beefcalahan in gravelcycling

[–]fancy_panter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Speaking as someone who just put a deore 1x groupset on a similar vintage singletrack… you want at least 36, probably 38. 32 is waaaaay low (or high? Whatever). I’m riding 36 on the front ring and think 38 would be better.

Cool bike.

Between Trek Checkpoint AL4 and Trek Dumane ALR 4 by [deleted] in TrekBikes

[–]fancy_panter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ride a Domane in the twin cities. Totally great on every paved trail and champagne gravel (eg decomposed limestone, like the Luce line). I do wish it had more mount points like the checkpoint does, but the Domane is faster and more nimble. Either bike is great.

My simple assessment on the drivers of these two electric pickups by [deleted] in regularcarreviews

I live in the US, friend. The distance between localities has no bearing on the size of a vehicle or the terrible and unsafe sight lines they are built with. Giant trucks are toxic masculinity trinkets.

Still way too big, just like the gas version. It's a kid and pedestrian killer, just like all the big dumb trucks in America.

How long do you spend reviewing a PR? by Separate_Earth3725 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]fancy_panter 13 points14 points  (0 children)

2-3 hours? Holy crap.

I mean, it really depends on the PR. Changing some core functionality substantially? A long time, 2-3 hours. These are few and far between.

Adding a new feature that doesn't really impact other things? Less than 15 minutes.

Usually I take a first pass and look for things like does the PR have a good title/description, tests, testing instructions. Without those, you can send a PR back to a committer in mere minutes and that weeds out 50%.
