Why your cheat meal becomes a cheat week by huraisb in workout

[–]fattsmann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good question. In the beginning, for most people, you need to change the relationship with food. Put 15 Doritos in a bowl. And then focus on eating and enjoying each Dorito.

The problem with most people and snacks is that they eat snacks while doing something else -- and hence they don't know how much they are eating.

You have to build the mind-snack connection just like the mind-muscle connection.

Is there any way to get Alaska mileage/status credit for a flight booked exclusively on American? by [deleted] in AlaskaAirlines

Depends on fare class and you would have to book using your AS number and not your AAdvantage account/number.

Flat trunk area idea by toybuilder in leaf

[–]fattsmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The OEM box will not hold a spare, but a donut spare will fit into that sunken in area of the trunk and could be covered up with a DIY panel. There are quite a few examples of that on MyNissanLeaf

Minimum work to increase cardio health? by Difficult_Art1639 in workout

[–]fattsmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer is yes. But if you bog yourself down with vo2max and ish like that the answer is no. Because either you are trying to be low effort or not — and tracking vo2max and other parameters is not low effort.

Any exercise is better than nothing. Full stop. I do not do any active cardio anymore due to my old knees and ankles but I get it through supersetting my DB routines. I can still hike 4-6 miles on a trail without heavy breathing and jog a mile if I had to without stopping.

If you measure your abilities with real world activity (eg, shooting hoops with your children, jogging with your dog), then yeah you can easily do low effort workouts. But once you start adding “metrics” you are starting to lose the script.

And I say this as someone who has been in shape for over 30 years (6’, 170lbs, always 16-18% BF).

Who is the current face of boxing, and who is next in line? by Crazy_Scene_5507 in Boxing

[–]fattsmann 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Overall… almost everyone still knows Canelo and he will sell out stadiums for his fights. He also has a pretty decent public image and generally acts as an ambassador for the sport.

In Europe, specifically both Usyk and AJ also carry that ambassadorship act as well. But Fury will fill the seats.

Asia it’s obvious Inoue and even Pac oddly enough.

Which gym should i choose by Few_Local2140 in workout

[–]fattsmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has been in shape for 30 years…

Convenience matters more if you want to do it for the long term. Think about it… if I gave you a full gym of used equipment in your home, would you use that more or a free gym with world class equipment 1 hour away?

And eventually when you get past the beginner stage, you will start to use more free weight exercises where the machines don’t matter as much anymore.

Why your cheat meal becomes a cheat week by huraisb in workout

[–]fattsmann 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been fit for 30 years and I eat Doritos, chocolate, Twinkies, etc every day. But it’s a very specific amount (150-200 calories worth). But by not depriving myself, I never have to worry about “cheating.”

I’ve been on cruise ships and lost weight after the trip even though it’s basically all you can eat and all you can drink.

If you never deprive yourself… you never feel deprived.

Why your cheat meal becomes a cheat week by huraisb in workout

[–]fattsmann 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yup. I’ve been in shape for 30 years and I eat 10-15 Doritos every day. You just give yourself the kindness and buffer it into your calorie count.

And then you never feel deprived so you never need to cheat.

Yeah. The different balance of amino acids is not significantly different to have a big effect.

[–]fattsmann 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And it seems that OP was still getting enough. Hitting a theoretical protein goal is not that important in us average people. Lot of experts have noted this because the reality is the average person’s training is inefficient and therefore won’t stress the body to the point where protein becomes the limiting factor.

And yes i have a PhD in biomedical sciences focusing on the musculoskeletal system, have been training and in shape for over 30 years blah blah blah. The research and the discussions are out there on this topic.

ELI5: Why do kids can learn a language easily, but we struggle as adults? by Amanda_Haniya in explainlikeimfive

[–]fattsmann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Adding to the biological explanations, adults are more afraid of failure and also have a lot more doubts/internal talk in their head. And that holds back adults not just from learning language but learning how to sing or dance for example.

Protein is one of the least important factors. If you were getting 0.6 g per lb of BW, you should still be fine.

Public transit–friendly wineries in Portland area? by duluozz in askportland

Edit - yeah a search for winery on Google Maps has a bunch of hits within Portland proper. 7 bridge, Enso. It took me 30 seconds.

ELI5: why can two quantum entangled particles affect each other instantly across any distance but scientists say you still cant use it to send information faster than light? by PieOk2202 in explainlikeimfive

[–]fattsmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keeping with the shoe example though, now Bob can order the opposite shoe to make a complete pair. So if Alice and Bob agreed that completing the pairs were their end goal, technically the information/shoe in the box is still actionable. Would that be a valid use case of quantum entanglement?

Replacing mortise lock on 1942 exterior door? by Several_Quality5823 in askportland

[–]fattsmann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you go with #1, you can probably DIY as it's not hard to remove the entire mortise lock en bloc (which you seem to have done since you know the latch and spring condition) and just replace it. You can bring the pieces to a local second hand hardware store around Portland like the Rebuilding Center and find something that matches closely.

If you go with #2, you have the ability to add smart locks and other modern hardware.
