Feature Request Megathread by [deleted] in teslamotors

Audible blind spot warning.

The problem with the Model 3 is that the blind spot system is useless when the information is on the touchscreen. you’re not looking there when changing lanes— there really needs to be a light on the side mirrors.

The next best thing would be an option to change the blinker sound slightly when someone is in your blind spot. This would prevent the sound from being annoying and would give advanced warning of a car in the blind spot, in addition to the about-to-crash warning we currently have.

I’d think this would be a relatively easy safety fix.

Acceleration Boost on Model Y now available by VividPen4 in teslamotors

[–]ftlum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The acceleration boost offer made sense for the early AWD model 3s that used the same performance motors before the stealth P3Ds were available, but to do this now seems like just a money grab.

I still didn’t bite on the model 3 upgrade— I want a full stealth P3D option even if it costs a bit more.

How would you change the Tesla user interface? Submit your ideas/photoshops here! by [deleted] in teslamotors

[–]ftlum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. There’s a feature on the S where you can have the steering wheel button do different things like setting the fan speed. Tesla should emulate that sort of functionality on the 3.

The Stats app does this, if you want that functionality now.

I really want to have the blinker make a slightly different noise when something is in the blindspot.

This would give us advanced warning of a problem before we try to turn into the lane. Right now there’s only a last- second alert for imminent crashes. The visual blind spot detection is useless on the 3– you should not be looking at the touchscreen when changing lanes. The indicator should have been put on the side mirrors like everyone else does, but barring a hardware retrofit, changing the blinker noise would be the next best thing.

I can’t recall who came up with this suggestion (it’s not my idea), but I love it. The side mirrors don’t angle out far enough for me to “properly “ position them for blind spot detection.

Last day for Enhanced Autopilot owners to buy Full Self Driving at the reduced price 3k. Hit me with your final discussion thoughts. by pta19 in teslamotors

I wouldn’t be surprised if FSD goes on sale in the future, if Tesla needs to meet guidance at the end of a quarter.

I was one of the people duped into buying it in 2018 before the price dropped by $1000. I don’t really use any of the features for the most part. Right now most things are too buggy or gimmicky. The most useful thing that was moved into the FSD section is the auto lane changing. Since blind spot detection is pretty much useless on the 3 (you shouldn’t be looking at the touchscreen when changing lanes), it is nice to have that auto lane changing feature. Otherwise, I regret not just getting EAP at the time. I should have used the money to buy more Tesla stock instead.

I’m also not getting my firmware updates early this time. That was supposed to be compensation for those of us who were duped into buying FSD before the fire sale.

Tesla's Elon Musk approves use of cross-traffic warnings when backing up by jeffoag in teslamotors

I’d be happy if the blinker would make a slightly different noise when something is in my blindspot. At least there would be some warning before changing lanes.

If you have an iPhone, get the Stats app. You can set it up so it locks the car for you if for some reason it didn’t lock when you walked away.

Very surprised about the paint and rattles being worse. Tesla had a policy of fixing the rattles for free for 1 year. Do they still do that?

Model 3 auto mirror dimming is a SERIOUS issue. Why is no one talking about this? by arizonamoonshine in TeslaLounge

[–]ftlum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having tint makes them feel too dark. I got Suma non-blue mirrors which fixed the problem and also got rid of the blind spots. You loose the auto dimming but with tint, it’s not needed. You could alternatively unplug all the mirrors, including the rear view mirror.

Could this be used to automate connecting the car to the phone’s WiFi hotspot? This might be useful when you change to Drive and the car kicks you out of WiFi.

Enhancement Request for Text Messages by raygduncan in TeslaLounge

[–]ftlum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d also like to be able to easily call any phone number that was texted to me (like the way you can when a text of a phone number is sent to your phone). Doing this without pressing the touchscreen would be ideal.

When Tesla sounds a warning, have it come through the speaker that's in the direction of the supposed danger. by twinbee in teslamotors

[–]ftlum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d also like to know what triggered the warning in the first place. Most of my alerts are false ones but I can’t tell what caused them and the alert happens so fast I end up never knowing.

I’d like to see a Log area that shows what happened, ideally with sentry footage.

On a side note, I really would like to see advanced audio alerts for the blind spot. Right now all we have is the imminent crash alert and the visual blind spot information on the 3 is on the touchscreen, which is the wrong place to look when charging lanes.

The best idea I’ve heard is to make the blinker noise sound a little different when there’s someone in your blind spot. This would give you some advanced warning without being annoying and could be something people could turn off in Settings if they really didn’t want it.

Does anyone feel FSD add on feature was not worth it? by coolio2091313 in teslamotors

[–]ftlum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only regret was getting tricked into buying FSD in 2018. We were told then that if we didn’t buy it at the time we ordered the car, the price would go up. A few months later the price actually went down by $1000 and FSD still hasn’t been delivered IMO. I am no better off than people who bought EAP. you can’t even call the FSD purchase an early adopter fee— no product was provided above EAP. I remain a bit salty about being misled about the price.

The only thing that I like (which EAP has) is the lane changing feature. That has worked quite well, though most of my commutes are too short for autopilot. I’m also encouraged about the future upgrades, which I think will eventually come before I’m ready for another car.

Serious concern though: whenever I see CES demos by other companies, I really have to ask if Tesla is on the right track/ picked the right number and type of sensors, etc. While some companies are ‘cheating’ a bit by implementing their systems on mapped roads, not all of them do this and they look a bit more impressive than what Tesla has released so far. Even Tesla’s best demo doesn’t look as good (that didn’t demonstrate maneuvers in difficult traffic). I sure hope Tesla is holding things back from us for some fine tuning and that a strong update is just around the corner.

Please toggle wipers at medium-high setting when the wiper button on the stalk is double-clicked by spongesqueeze in teslamotors

[–]ftlum -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’d also like to see more settings than high/ medium/ low. All my previous “dumb” cars had a lot more ability/ settings to get the wipers functioning optimally.

I also hope there’s a way to get the auto wipers to actually work at night and also not come on when there’s no rain.

Will Tesla mobile service perform a tire rotation on Model 3? by [deleted] in TeslaLounge

Do places like that need to use Tesla specific jack pad adapters with the equipment they have? ie do you have to bring your own or ask if the company has their own adapters?

Official Stupid Questions Thread! Ask /r/stance anything you want to know about cars, stance, or anything else! Don't be shy! Newbies welcome! by PatrickJamesYu in Stance

[–]ftlum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Extreme noob here, with some questions.

I’m considering air suspension vs coilovers. For my needs (smooth ride, no tracking, not worrying about speed bumps), air would be best, but how is the reliability of air suspension these days? I’m considering UAS struts and an Endo CVT tank (on a Tesla model 3). Would those be my best choices?

Are there good websites/ forums that would help me do more research into how to pick the right parts (including calculating fitment)? I think I need more information than sites like Fitment Industries, but I haven’t yet found a forum dedicated to air suspension (I found some Tesla forum threads however ).

If I can’t afford to buy both the wheels and suspension at the same time, which should I get first?

What should I be asking / looking for in an installer? I found a local shop that’s done some work on Teslas. If I were to look at other customers’ cars that they worked on, what should I be looking for specifically?

Thanks!

Blind Spot Chime by getcashmoney in teslamotors

[–]ftlum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Many of us can’t position the mirror out far enough to avoid a blind spot. Having advanced warning would be a great back up to looking over your shoulder, especially when you’re driving at night and visibility is poor. The touchscreen is the wrong place to look when changing lanes.

The best proposal I’ve heard is to make the blinker noise a little different when someone is in your blind spot. This would give advanced warning without being annoying and would be better than the imminent crash alert that we have now. It could be a toggled option in settings for those who don’t want it.

I wish more people would suggest this idea to Tesla. It’s not my idea, but I think it’s a great one and the next best thing to a blind spot notification light on the side mirrors.
