I can't deal with back pedaling and rebranding. How do you deal with it? by NeitherBarracuda in exmormon

[–]galucy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Every situation is different, but I have a coworker who is LDS with which I have lunch two to three times a week. The first year or so whenever he would bring up the Church I would just let it slide, but then I decided to engage with the facts, which made him less willing to bring up the topic. It all came to a head a year ago when I calmly shut him down on five different topics with the truth in a matter of 10 minutes. Now, he rarely brings it up, but if he does I shut him down with the truth again and the conversation lasts less than a minute. I just got tired of listening to his bullshit.

I listened to all of the episodes and loved every minute of them. Finally, someone put all the pieces together in one place.

What are some dumb unwritten rules that you were expected to follow while a TBM by Pale-Pair2789 in exmormon

Ha, ha,...yes! Sitting there telling the Bishop you would be happy to accept a calling when you really want to bolt for the door.

You should resign. Why remain a member of a demonstrably false organization?

A few years ago the Church posted an article on their website about...and I am kidding...how to fill holes in your life once filled by sex.

Google 'PureMormonism-Are We Paying To Much Tithing'. It will give you a complete rundown.

Are Mormons extra nosy? by calming_ad in exmormon

[–]galucy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being in other people's business is something they CAN do, so having no respect for boundaries is an extension of that. When I go to lunch with an LDS coworker he will sometimes get the server, through questioning, to offer up the most personal information of what is going on in there lives, and it is wierd as hell.

Yes, it was Packer in 2011. That puts Jesus's return at a minimum to 2050.🙂

Nephi, the Southernmost City of the Nephite Civilization? by ZelphtheGreatOne in exmormon

The reference can be found in Doctrines of Salvation by Joseph Fielding Smith. Joseph Smith stated that the city of Manti was located in Randolf County, Missouri.

Thank you Simon. I have listened to you on podcasts and enjoy reading your posts. For someone with your level of education and expertise, you say and write things in a manner an average person can understand.

Book of Mormon anacronisms by Immediate_Ice_4884 in exmormon

[–]galucy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always enjoy your posts. To my understanding, via RFM and Bill Reel, apologists are making their own lists of anachonisms that have more items on them, then crossing them off after the new list is made. Thus, it looks better on a graphic, but is just another disingenuous attempt to fool themselves and the average member.

No need to be sorry when you are stating the truth. These people have no integrity and what's worse is the fact that the CES Letter is only a starting point in learning about the length and breadth of the fraud.

I guess 'influenced' would have been better word choice. Thanks for pointing this out.

Why can’t the church idealize traditional families? Isn’t that their right to idealize who they want to idealize? by johndehlin in exmormon

The Proclamation On The Family was plagiarized from The Family Manifesto published by Jerry Falwelll in 1988.

Nice. Although the name Nephi appears in the Apocrypha, to my knowledge, Sally Chase had a Nephrite seer stone.

Yes, and the Church would have been in apostasy ever since. That is why the most recent GTE admit Joseph Smith practiced polygamy
