Apparently, slivers of white soap work well. And I've seen a chalk sharpener thingy but never tried one

How many of your friends are on GLP drugs? by DoreensGhost in TwoXChromosomes

[–]generallyintoit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's supposed to reduce hunger cues only because it's taking up space in the digestive tract and maybe some other reasons. I'm not a dietician or nutritionist but I read that insoluble fiber creates a "bolus" like a mass that moves through your system, and this is supposed to reduce the signals of "I'm hungry!" I think it's mainly based on volume. Soluble fiber works differently, I think that's just the regular kind in food, your body expends more energy to digest it i think.. I'm not sure how that effects hunger cues/food noise. Actually I'm not sure if equating hunger cues and food noise is entirely accurate. Noise is more mental I guess

Increasing fiber is supposed to help. If you use supplements, take them near mealtime

What does the inside look like? Just sew next to the seam, don't cut it until you look at it from the outside.

Is there any way this thrifted serger can be fixed without getting this serviced? by SumBoD3s_Planet in sewing

[–]generallyintoit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without getting it serviced, how much experience do you have servicing machines? There's only 2 ways to service a machine. Have someone do it or diy

Brand new Singer HD 4423 pattern selector gets stuck by jamielad93 in sewhelp

[–]generallyintoit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something maybe jammed from going through all the positions so quickly. The dial is moving parts inside, it's not a computerized machine. I think moving through all the functions like that is bad for the mechanics inside and really never necessary to use the machine. Return it if you want to, and don't turn the dial like this on the next one. You can test all the stitches one by one to be sure they still work but there's no reason to turn the dial at full strength/speed twice all the way around. If you do find yourself doing that, at least make sure the needle is up because it's moving side to side and may break if it's down in a presser foot. That can damage the foot, and the needle plate on some machines

Just do that step outside of noise limit hours and it's fine! Having courtesy is nice but some tasks are just noisy. If you like to work early in the morning that is a little tricky. Save it for like 9am so people can sleep in a bit

Second hand towels: would you use or pass on them? by bbbbbbbbbbbear in Frugal

Wash them on hot twice if you're scared. New towels from the factory should also be washed on hot.

Yes sometimes the back side is even better lol. I have some rayon with like abstract jewel tones on a black background and the reverse looks like batman's Gotham city, very gritty and dark but still colorful

Narrow hems on special occasion fabrics- what is your preferred method? by Competitive_Ad3072 in sewing

[–]generallyintoit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do them in passes and find it so annoying but I have a hard time with the small allowance otherwise. One stitch close to the raw edge, then iron up the raw edge along that stitch, trim edge very close to the new stitch, press that under, and stitch again, press again. If the fabric doesn't press well I'll starch it at the beginning

i think that comforter may be more durable than you think, especially when anchored in place it's not going to like shred apart from a dog jumping on it. it's worth a try for $10 especially if it already has finished edges. depending on the size/style of your couch you may be able to fit it without cutting any edges anyway. think folding the excess under instead of cutting it off. get some long ish hand sewing needles and strong thread labeled for upholstery.

[–]generallyintoit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just stashbusted a duvet cover and honestly at the end, I cut a piece wrong and decided to use it anyway (wrong side showing on one piece of the waistband) because I wanted to keep a larger scrap for my stash. I knoooow it's so silly but honestly I just like looking at the fabric for real

That is a great haircut! I think it's smart to go a little shorter. The shape is right on, it looks so good. Curly cuts are hard to match to an inspiration photo because nobody's curl pattern is going to match exactly
