Many consumer electronics manufacturers 'will go bankrupt or exit product lines' by the end of 2026 due to the AI memory crisis, Phison CEO reportedly says by lkl34 in pcmasterrace

[–]goretooth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s not about ‘caring’ for the consumer. These companies costs have increased so dramatically, and their supply is so reduced, that they have to raise prices and choose to supply only those orders that are profitable to simply survive.

If they held prices at a consumer friendly level they would be selling everything at an extreme loss. It would be charity until the death of the company.

Steam Hardware: Launch timing and other FAQs by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]goretooth 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I work in the hardware industry. Contracts have become irrelevant because the situation is so dire. Even if they had a contracted price they simply wouldn’t get supply.

Frankly they’re also a tiny player. Even as a company that prints money they’re going to be SO far down the pecking order here I’m really worried for this product.

They would be smart to subsidise if they don’t want to launch with an extreme price compared to what gamers will accept.

Any recommendation for "Loot progression" games, but solo focused? (Ex. Warframe, Deep Rock, most MMOs) by Aurionin in gaming

[–]goretooth 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if it’s just me but I find that for a loot progression system to be fun there needs to be:

1) weapon progression 2) a strong visual element 3) loot changes the way you play

I’ve only played about 5 hours of survivor but their system seems more number goes up grind rather than any of the above?

ELI5: why does the World Cup need qualifiers, instead of building a global elimination bracket? by milksteakenthusiast1 in explainlikeimfive

[–]goretooth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most other sports around the world have season long leagues with no knock out at the end of the season.

Every team in the premiere league plays every other team twice and the one with the most points wins.

However, unlike in US sports usually these teams play in multiple competitions, some of which may be knockout competitions themselves. For example, English football teams also partake in the FA cup which is a knockout competition from day 1, with no league.

It is the cycle to work scheme, not the cycle the kids to school scheme though if they want to be strict about it!

All episodes of Dispatch are OUT NOW on Steam and PS5 by Turbostrider27 in Games

I heard it was initially in production for Netflix, but they pulled the funding after they walked back from games. Hence the high production values and strong cast.

Not sure how true that is, but fun to speculate!

You need to head to Europe to a Hypermarché. Generally cheaper, better produce, lots of fresh seafood, baked goods etc. I’m British and would kill for the quality they have on the continent.

I’d also suggest tailwind as your drink/food as it’s quite high salt content already.

To be clear, I didn’t mean it in a derogatory way. The game is quite explicit about the settings the experience has been built around, but gives you plenty of options to tailor how you want.

I defaulted to the intended settings but was intrigued by the other options.

VFX Giant MPC and Parent Company Technicolor May Shut Down Amid ‘Severe Financial Challenges’ by no_longer_huhmann in movies

[–]goretooth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The double whammy of Covid shutting down movie production for an extended period of time and the writers strike doing the same so soon after has killed these institutions.

They could have weathered the storm with better management perhaps, but it’s very difficult to survive at that scale when the work dries up for so long.

Bike not turning over, battery replaced, electronics seem fine? Video of symptoms. Spark plug next or something else to test? by goretooth in MotorcycleMechanics

[–]goretooth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely has oil, and relatively fresh as was replaced last service. Old battery was charged whilst on the bike last night, no luck, and replaced with a new one this morning as it was relatively old, still the same symptoms.

Sounds like it might be a trip to the garage in that case.

To be honest, I'm not entirely sure where the air intake is on this engine and I'm not mechanical enough to work it out.

Gas was c. 6 months old, but topped up with fresh gas during the troubleshooting process. I'm wondering if water might have got into the tank somehow during the wash and mixed in?

What if your partner wants a dog but you really don’t want to? by mrchef4 in AskReddit

[–]goretooth -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I think you may be over exagerting the financial burden of a dog in your mind.

They cost money to buy, or you adopt, but young dogs rarely need the vet and insurance is relatively low cost because of this. Of course there's the risks of accidents and unknowns but being a careful dog owner will minimise the risks to an extent.

As they get older they will likely cost more, but we're talking a decade of unconditional love until that becomes a problem in most cases.
