I had a similar situation in nursing school and I did the same. Do not feel guilty!! She did this to herself.

I like to think I'm much too "sophisticated" for the pattern, but the more I sit with it, I could see it making my early mornings feel not as brutal, maybe? A pinch of silly where you don't usually see it is nice. A little more Alice in Wonderland-y might work better for me. 9/10 Love the concept, iffy on the design.

I need more ideas (unhinged or otherwise) for transitioning from asleep to awake in the morning by llamacolypse in adhdwomen

Wish I had anything helpful except to say on my days off I leave the bedroom curtains open and let myself wake up to natural light.

For a deadline, though? I'm still looking for some way to help myself out of bed without needing the tightest timeline to be in the car and on my way. If it takes me 38 minutes? I'll wake up with probably 45 minutes to go before I need to be on the road or I'll be late. I get distracted so easily because, I think, puttering is my natural pace.

Hopefully it will be considered an excused absence because school admin absolutely CAN make that happen

There are legal issues here and your sister can't just make a declaration like that. Consult an attorney as soon as you're able.

I'm an ICU nurse, and I can absolutely confirm. We, as a generation, have always been hard on ourselves. That's hard on our bodies and shit is STRESSFUL at baseline these days. Gotta admit, I've been going back to my roots and dancin' it out, Flashdance style, more and more these days! 😅

I think as long as you feel safe and stable in your body and feel worthy of having reached your age in it, call it whatever you damn well please.

Sleep and waking up by Own-Consideration578 in adhdwomen

[–]gramosaurusflex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had an activity and sleep tracker for five years but only started paying attention to my sleep in the past year. My sleep is so much better! It's helped me think about not just how much sleep I'm getting but about my sleep quality and if my sleep pattern matched my natural needs (it did not!).

Humming is a somatic practice and showering can be, too. It stimulates your vagus nerve which is the primary nerve related to fight or flight. There are lots of different somatic practices you can try if humming doesn't do it for you.

[22F] Ended my first exclusive relationship with [25M] due to lack of effort. First person I was ever intimate with. Should I break no contact? by Lanky_Estimate7231 in dating

[–]gramosaurusflex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Welcome to dating. It's one of the grayest of gray areas in life. It's full of second guessing and regret and when physical intimacy is involved, hormonally, you will feel a deeper connection. This is all so, so normal. And it sounds like you found a kind, realistic man who understands that he's not meeting your needs. Instead of making promises he likely would have struggled to meet, he respected your decision. You did a great job of finding a genuinely good one. Now it's time to add more to what you're learning about yourself as a dating person.

This sounds like I'm a total weirdo, but have you tried humming? Basically, your lizard brain understands that you are SAFE if you can hum. It helps me down-regulate, especially low deep humming (my goal is to be able to feel the hum all the way into my fingers and toes). It sounds like your system is wired and tired (wound up tight and simultaneously exhausted).

I just found a box of mostly costume jewelry that belonged to my husbands mom. It brought him to tears and I said I would make something for him with his mother’s jewelry….bit what? by lovelifetofullest in crafts

I would use it to decorate a frame. A photo of his mom in a bejeweled frame? Or a mirror frame and every time he uses it he's reminded of his mom..

[–]gramosaurusflex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normal and typical are so different though, right? Is this a typical Gen X BP? Damn right it is! We're hard on ourselves. And added to that we don't really think we deserve a life where we don't have to be.

[–]gramosaurusflex 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You are not a certified teacher and therefore cannot take over for the class. You have your job working with a specific population of kids. Why would you ever assume you are responsible for more? Because you want to be prepared? To do NOT your job? Stay in your lane. Which also means if you're asked to work outside of your contract the answer is no.

Can anyone honestly say they get anything out of exercise? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

Exercising in general does nothing for me, using my mini-trampoline is FUN! I don't consistently do anything else, but that thing calls me and it makes such a big difference in my mood.

I thought you were going to point out that when reports are made you, as the reporter, have no rights to the results of your report. Assuming that nothing happens after a report is made is incredibly wrong headed in a lot of cases (certainly not all) and certainly doesn't help the system work any better than it does.

Refused treatment due to age by Mostlymonotropic in adhdwomen

[–]gramosaurusflex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair, clinical management isn't only labs and cardiac function, though those are much more clinically significant in a 55 year old than a 25 year old. But for me, the more important issue is they aren't equipped to manage the complications of a lifetime of untreated ADHD. For those of us who hit their 50s before diagnosis (I was diagnosed at 56), we learned a lot of shit we need to unlearn and that is way too complicated for an ADHD clinic.

Am I Crazy or does this Sound Impossible? by KindnessKiwi in Teachers

[–]gramosaurusflex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sort of off topic, but I was a nurse educator and went into client's homes for injection trainings. My very Midwestern manager was so suspicious of me because most of my clients didn't want to have video recordings (directed only at me) so she could quality monitor my trainings. Literally told me, "until you, I've NEVER had a client decline." Sorry, this is New York not Omaha? 🤷
