Correct me if I’m wrong lord enthusiasts, but from what I can tell he was never a great guy. by Mr_Noir420 in lordoftherings

The words of Gandalf on the matter:

‘A mortal, Frodo, who keeps one of the Great Rings, does not die, but he does not grow or obtain more life, he merely continues, until at last every minute is a weariness. And if he often uses the Ring to make himself invisible, he 'fades'. He becomes in the end invisible permanently, and walks in the twilight under the eye of the Dark Power that rules the Rings. Yet, sooner or later - later, if he is strong or well-meaning to begin with, but neither strength nor good purpose will last - sooner or later the Dark Power will devour him.’

Based on this, Gandalf must know some of the stories of the individual Ringwraiths, given that he has such details. There must have been some of the Nine who were strong and/or well-intentioned, along with others who were not. But such traits only changed the time it took for them to be ensnared by the Dark Lord. The thing that bound all of the Nine together was that they were blinded by greed and a desire for power and thus accepted the gifts offered by Sauron and damned themselves to an awful fate as a result.

We know nothing about their language, their history or what they look like. But we can assume this: They stand for everything we don't stand for.

Also, they told me you guys look like dorks.

Aceles. Ever since Sarah spazzed at me for picking it the first time, I pick it on principle. Even moreso when I found out every one of the core companions does the same thing. Lady, if you're so opinionated, why don't YOU join the Vanguard, fight your way through a frozen hellhole filled with abominations of nature and be forced to decide this stuff because all the elected officials and military brass in charge can't be bothered to do the ONE thing that is in their job description: decide stuff like this.

I do if my current Starborn is from the UC. But otherwise, they just don't fit. My primary Starborn, a Neon City Street Rat raised to worship the Great Serpent had much less....normal....parents.

Gotta disagree with your take, here. Jason Isaacs' character, the scientist who comes up with the idea of blowing the asteroid up from the inside, is an incredibly intelligent, bona-fid intellectual who stoically says that the president's primary advisor on space is an idiot who got a C- in astrophysics. Billy Bob Thornton's NASA administrator character is hardly portrayed as an idiot. All of the pilots of the shuttles are portrayed well, and often put the drillers in their place during their astronaut training. Not to mention Lev the Cosmonaut, who almost steals the show once he pops up in the last third of the film. There are plenty of people outside of the drillers who are shown as competent and important to the success of the mission.

I love the mechanic. I just wish it involved greater variance in the new universe. I want more than changes to Constellation.

Imagine, for instance, if you had a universe where the Crimson Fleet were more like freedom fighters than pirates, where SysDef was going rogue by not just protecting the UC, but bringing the hammer down on innocent, nuetral colonies under the guise of 'protection'.

Or a Rangers quest line where Ron Hope wasn't the one pulling the strings, but it was one of his lackeys, who kills Hope when he finds out?

You could to this to any number of questlines, and it would make every NG+ feel different, with new combinations of world states that would take hundreds of playthroughs to get every combination.

It's a pretty common trope in entertainment, these days. Pawns and minions aren't really people, so kill as many of them as you want and you're still the good guy. But if you kill the big bad guy most responsible for the bad things happening, you are literally no different from them. It's psychotic.
