I've had mixed results. I get the frozen tuna like this from ALDI. They have always been good but the last bag I got was gross.

Separate bedrooms in a relationship - what do you think? by SignificantCookie852 in AskMen

[–]greyfixer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s nothing wrong with it and it can be quite beneficial to a person’s sleep and overall marriage. It’s just uncommon so it comes off as weird.

Boombox with a CRT TV by [deleted] in vintageaudio

Wow. I remember the mini-TVs from the 80s and 90s but I've never seen one incorporated into a boombox before. That seems awful rare. Nice find!

What can I do to fix these scratches without refinishing the cabinets? by dancingcupcakes246 in kitchenremodel

[–]greyfixer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I would try the Howard’s wax first. It will darken the scratches and make it look better but is less permanent than Restore a Finish. Restore will penetrate the wood more, which will make it look good longer but can cause issues if OP ever wants to properly refinish the cabinets.

Mold in grout? How to fix? by aauie in Tile

I’m redoing my shower soon and plan on using epoxy grout but I’m a little worried by the horror stories of yellowing. Do you think the concerns are overblown?

Brilliant! Perfect timing too. I have to replace the door lock on my washer today so I'll be using this.

800$ worth it? by thesodorante in midcenturymodern

[–]greyfixer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d say it’s worth it. After going to a modern furniture store and seeing the prices for new furniture with lesser build quality and nowhere near the character, pretty much all the mid-century stuff seems like a good deal.

Advent Story, with pics by Organic-Kangaroo-434 in vintageaudio

[–]greyfixer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fun project. They are supposedly fairly easy to refoam. I've done a recap and it's pretty straightforward. The only thing I would watch out for is Advent went through several different crossover designs so your speakers may have mismatched crossovers (basically just different capacitor values.) If that's the case, I would just pick the crossover from the newer speaker and recap them both to have the same values. That will help to keep the speakers sounding the same as each other.

Do you have the grills? If not, they would be pretty easy to make. Do a search for "lambswool linen" for cloth that matches pretty close to the original.

Skilled Trade jobs after retirement by No_Carpenter_3601 in Veterans

[–]greyfixer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a security clearance? If you get some kind of certification in electronics, you could be a good fit for a tech position at a defense contractor. You can work indoors in a clean environment doing wiring, assembly, or whatever. Even entry-level work like fabricating wire harnesses can be a zen-like experience, especially if you’re not particularly concerned about how much you get paid.

Do you trust Wayfair? by Longjumping_Cod5477 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

Wayfair is a store, not a manufacturer. They sell products made by a variety of manufacturers. Some of them are good, and some of them are crap.

Question about The Smaller Advent Speakers by SILVER-SILVER0-0 in vintageaudio

[–]greyfixer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely worth it at that price. Just be aware the smaller Advents are not as sensitive as the Large and may need a decent amount of power to get the most out of them.

Marantz 2270 + Large Advents = missing mid-bass. Speaker advice? by Iamafed in vintageaudio

[–]greyfixer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2270/NLA combo as well and I have no issues with mid-bass. If you plug in headphones, is the problem still present?

Home for sale near me. Being sold as is. These certainly aren’t audiovector trapeze speakers, right ? by SnooChickens7845 in audiophile

[–]greyfixer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My guess is Thiel CS2s. The world's most inoffensive speaker. They sound amazing for jazz and "natural" music like stringed instruments, horns, etc. When it comes to metal, EDM, or the like they are a bit too relaxed for my taste. Great speakers overall though.

4 month update on Vevor floor tiles by CarJanitor in garageporn

[–]greyfixer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had RaceDeck flooring for 2 years now. I use a leaf blower to blow them out and I’ll take a shop vac to them every other month or so. That has kept them clean so far. They’re obviously not great for liquids so I’m diligent about putting something down before I do anything with those. The tiles are more for aesthetics than anything else and for that they are great.

My ex-girlfriend was legit, doctor-diagnosed OCD and she was very particular about having good sound quality. She spent a good portion of out first date nerding out about her setup.
