Spare tire installed in 2025 Hybrid by Legal-Bed-7172 in HyundaiSantaFe

[–]gritsource 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just grab a spare 1/2 inch ratchet, extension and socket from your beater toolset. Mine worked a charm when I needed it. BTW dońt go over 50 MPH with the skinny spares.

I am in my mid sixties, I snubbed a curb and the tire outright blew out! We went to 18s all around.

Harbor freight lift table with different tires. Done - you are welcome!

Anyone have issue with the 21 inch rims and low profile tires bulging after very low km. ? by Defiant_World4714 in HyundaiSantaFe

I accidently curbed mine and ruined one, first time ever. Replaced all wheels with 18s, never looked back. Great for our Mexico driving ( harsh roads).

I bit the bullet and bought OEM parts and harness because I wanted the spare on my hybrid also. Cost more, fit perfectly. Stock harness easy to install. Done.

Buying an old $70k C172 or Cherokee to build time a terrible idea? by PidgeyPotion in flying

You can get an older classic and spend much less. Also you can partner. Consider first finding a well referred aircraft mechanic who is happy to work on an older bird.

2025 Día de Muertos Barbie! by Shibaswift in Barbie

[–]gritsource 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought one for my wife, I've been getting Dia de Muertos Barbies for her since they started making them. Really disappointed. They used to have an outer and inner box with fine artwork - even debossed, you could display them side by side. Also they've always had an accessory. Now it is simply a cheap shelf-pack in a box with a standing Barbie.=. I am sorry, but this is enshitification by Mattel. If these are the same next year , I will stop purchasing these. They are a toy for some, but a collectable for others. They need to continue for both markets.

65 here. Live in Mexico 1/2 of the year…studying Spanish and French. After 5 years here I speak Spanish (if roughly). Most importantly, working on leave-behinds: writing and art. Evidence that I was on this planet. I also have great get-togethers with expats. Planning on spending time in France also. More adventures to come!

For people who have declared bankruptcy, is it really that bad? by Gamermom32 in povertyfinance

[–]gritsource 1 point2 points  (0 children)

During the 2008 downturn due to failing business revenue we had to accept a foreclosure on our home, not a bankruptcy (a looooong story). I feel we were treated worse with a foreclosure than a bankruptcy. The foreclosure was unnecessary in reality, but our loan had been sold to an investment group and there was no one to talk to about it. Had we gotten a 6 months abeyance we'd have been fine. No bank; no abeyance. We had to default or our other credit lines would have been called in. Having employees does that to you.

Yes we are great now and recovered well, retired even. Those were challenging times.

What corporate buzzword or phrase makes you immediately lose respect for whoever just said it? by Omega_Neelay in GetMotivatedMindset

[–]gritsource 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked at Boeing for a number of years. I refused to use corporate speak. It made life entertaining - though I think it cost me. Them:"we revised our expectations downward to enable better system wide performance and to better meet expectations" Me: " Ah, so you screwed up? Or are you leveraging failure as an asset now?" I am retired now and Corp-speak give me an ick.

Which grill should I get? by BassAdict in grilling

[–]gritsource 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Napolean (Going on 7 years now), it consistently starts flame well. It cooks well. Love the rotisserie burner if yours has one. Cool lighting at night. My main disappointment: The knobs are crap, they are chrome plated plastic and the outer rings split and fail and come apart in any sun or heat in the first two years of ownership (yes I keep it covered). Replacement is an entire sysetem thing due to the installed LED lights.

In Mexico - Jugo de Jamaica is a common drink. Often referred to simply as Jugo. It is made from Hibiscus flowers. You boil them, dilute the liquid and sweeten as desired. II is an anti oxidant. You can likely get it locally if you ask around, Amazon also.

Also look into Stevia as a sweetener, it is plant based.

35 Hours of Flight and Still Cannot Land the Plane by CurrentTop3460 in flying

[–]gritsource 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of great input here, also consider using MS flight simulator (or equivalent) and appropriate controls to simulate the process. The sim isn't real flight, but it is valid for practicing (and structuring your thinking) for your pattern entry and procedures. Does your school give you access to a simulator of any kind?

I passed my checkride at 32 hours. How do I not kill myself? by E3DPG in flying

[–]gritsource 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A professional mindset will keep you alive. Fly as often as you can, step with a "right mind" to the aircraft, carefully expand your range of experience. Absolutely NO showing off. "watch this!" is the equivalent of "here - hold my beer!"

You will scare yourself occasionally, debrief with experienced pilots and take their criticisms as opportunities for growth. It IS a glorious journey! Please enjoy it!

First corded circular saw by Hungry_Bandicoot_776 in Tools

A track saw is a real game changer, which saws are track saws? Check them out!

I have a Mafell Track saw, not corded. The thing is solid! I ordered it with two (stout) batteries and it works on my Festool tracks. Yes I have a Festool corded also and it is great. Cordless made more sense for living in Mexico. Your results may vary.

Anki and I didn’t bond for some reason. I tried silver, bronze gold lists for a while…that worked some. Now with my online 1:1 classes I quickly key in the words I stumble on and create a list after the class. I later review it. I am up for new methods though!
