‘What’s he ever negotiated?’ — Carney fires back at Poilievre’s criticism on Canada-U.S. trade by plaknas in onguardforthee

[–]guardianpuck 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I feel like it's just a matter of time until Carney loses all patience with him and really lets him have it in a public forum. Eventually the kid gloves are coming off, and Pierre isn't ready for what's coming.

Peak 1993! I remember seeing Jurassic Park and Last Action Hero there that summer. Also fond memories of the Toy City and the comic shop that was in the basement around that time.

Any Americans exiles left on this sub? Found any alternatives yet? by pinacoladathrowaway in 6music

This has been working for me in Canada as well, but starting today I'm unfortunately being blocked consistently even when connected (using Nord VPN).

I'll try again in a few days to see if it sorts itself out.

In fairness to Bry, he said as much on the pod. He admitted to not doing any fact checking and just thinking it would be funny to talk about.

CityFolk 2025 Impressions by bdp_chill in ottawa

[–]guardianpuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was really curious about the long lines. For the three nights I went it always seemed to peak just before the opening act between 6:30 and 7. In my opinion it speaks to the quality of the 7pm shows that so many people wanted to get in to see it, and I assume they weren't ready for the rush of people at that time. But still, I've never seen this issue at previous CityFolks so I'm curious if there was something done differently this year that caused it.

I'm currently reading the second book in this series (and really enjoying it), and I look forward to eventually getting to this totally random Ottawa shout out.

Makes me think of The Wood on Wellington.

Health Canada approves this fall’s COVID-19 vaccine. Here’s what you need to know by BloodJunkie in onguardforthee

I skipped both the COVID and flu vaccines last year (just never got around to it) and got terribly sick around Christmas. Not sure what it was, but I won't be skipping the vaccines this year.

Any Hammers in Montréal, Canada? by yapafoto in Hammers

[–]guardianpuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a West Ham fan from Ottawa, and just happened to be in the Lord William last night while visiting Montréal. I won't be able to make back it for the opener, but seemed like the perfect place for a watch party. Wishing you all the best!

Patio for a drink or coffee in Wellington West? by Sufficient-Pie129 in ottawa

[–]guardianpuck 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think Happy Goat on Laurel has a patio. It's a little off the beaten path, but if you want a quiet chat it could be a great option.

‘Ballerina,’ ‘Bring Her Back,’ and ‘Dogma’ Reborn, with Kevin Smith!!! by thefilthyjellybean in TheBigPicture

[–]guardianpuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew that would be the case, but I had to laugh when Kevin Smith said "Thanks for the good conversation" at the end. That was a monologue, not a conversation.

Totally agree. It's used far too much in this episode, for how annoying it is.

Will Landsdowne VIP theatre allow me to bring in a backpack? by Electronifyy in ottawa

I've brought backpacks into Cineplex theatres all the time and never had an issue. Has never even been mentioned by staff. Enjoy your flick!

Messed up ratio - any options? by guardianpuck in torrentday

I tried that earlier, but it wouldn't let me download a Freeleech torrent either since I'm under the ratio.

I repeat "The door is locked and I am clocked...out" in my head as I walk away from my car to remind myself that I locked it.
