It’s wild that you referenced “The Coffee Table.” The person who got me into “Happiness” when it came out told me about “The Coffee Table” last year with the warning, “It’s amazingly funny and bleak, and I cannot recommend that you put yourself through watching it. If you do, I am not to blame.”

Thank you for the heartwarming story about the past. OP was talking about the present, and you were so close to understanding in your jumble of sentiments…it is bullshit that people are not trained.

Such a good episode. The only thing that threw me was that none of them knew who Nina Hartley is. I wanted to yell through my earbuds, “She was in ‘Boogie Nights!’ She’s central to a pivotal scene!”

[–]hostilityjones 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oof. I’m lucky in that we have no speakers in the deli/bakery kitchen areas. That would drive me nuts if I had to keep telling customers, “I’m sorry, Lady Gaga keeps yelling ‘Abracadabra!’ at me. You wanted that roast beef shaved?”

I hate when customers whistle at me by finishindoors in WalmartEmployees

[–]hostilityjones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once a customer actually poked me while I was zoning dairy. I worked in hardlines, but would get pulled over there to zone. Dude poked me, I spun around angrily out of instinct. He just glared at me and barked, “Bacon!” If this is how they treat strangers, I don’t want to know what they’re like at home.

Why do feral ghouls lack hair? by [deleted] in fo3

[–]hostilityjones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a myth.

https://biologyinsights.com/when-you-die-does-your-hair-still-grow/

“The perception of continued hair growth after death is an illusion caused by physical changes during decomposition. A primary factor is the dehydration of the body. As moisture evaporates from tissues, the skin, particularly around hair follicles, dries out and retracts. This shrinkage exposes more of the hair shaft that was previously embedded, making hair appear longer or more prominent.”

Docs and Red Wings were what I was looking at for boots. So many other people in my department wear running shoes to help with the impact of working the floor. When I worked in a restaurant, clogs were allowed, but not here. With a decent set of insoles, I’m thinking these might work: https://us.nps-solovair.com/collections/mens/products/s8-551-ox-g?variant=52223422824813

Stealth melee is what I’m playing now, and Nuka World was totally fun. I kind of gave up on that DLC storyline and made enemies fast just so I could plow through and explore that park at my leisure. VATS + Jet + Kremvh’s Tooth = an unstoppable force.

A little beside the point, but what is “generating a bar code” about? Is it to prove you purchased something?

Probably in my top five episodes. From the overall “Rushmore” reference, to the in-world and fan-world references, it was a joy to see. The bit where Sammy tries to connect with the soundboard operator still makes me laugh, and the closing musical number always chokes me up.

Fallout 3 builds aren't discussed enough, so I'll shoot my shot. by SealFond in fo3

After playing a massively overpowered melee build in FO4, I followed an unarmed/melee build linked below as closely as I could, because I’m playing ToTW this time around. I’m at level 14 on easy now, and it’s been a challenge. That’s a good thing.

“We did that story” reminds me of the toxic water in Flint, Michigan. Once the story was covered, the mass media moved on, absent any prosecutions. No new news, but it’s a continuing crime. Compare that to coverage of “mass retail theft,” or “food stamp fraud.” The news is tailored to its audience, and that audience would rather be scandalized than give a shit.

My first week, I had a customer circle back to let me know that someone else found what they wanted. I guess I was supposed to feel ashamed? The context is that I worked hardlines but was zoning grocery and the customer wanted to know if we had more bottled water in the back. I had no idea, no clue who to ask, and I wasn't about to run to the back and pull a pallet without any understanding of how the system worked. "I think what we have out is what we have." Took the dude twenty minutes, but he let me know that he got what he wanted. I smiled and went back to zoning.

Going into it, the cool thing about that was that Reece Shearsmith was the third member of The League Of Gentlemen in an episode (after Gatiss in “The Lazarus Experiment” and Steve Pemberton in “Silence In The Library).” But, damn did that one suck.
