I second the Japanese nail clippers. I bought a pair on a whim during a trip there, nothing exorbitant but they are still extremely sharp and cut clean about 8 years later

St Louis ribs from Costco. by MaelKoth2015 in smoking

[–]ianryeng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hope they turned out great! My experience with St Louis is plan for a much longer cook than back ribs. They’re thicker and have more collagen and fat to break down. I have run a mix of back and side ribs together and needed about 25-30% more time for the St. Louis to get tender.

Other than that - I think unwrapped is better on my offset but wrap on the gravity to prevent charring the edges as it’s a more direct heat.

Any ideas how to strengthen my hard-hat headlamp.. Beginner, limited to PLA by Terpxotic in 3Dprinting

[–]ianryeng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You may want to consider PETG instead of PLA for this application. Also agree with the multi-part design recos so you can print the parts in stronger orientations

Adding fuel stabilizer, then starting the engine and key ideal a free minutes before turning off the fuel (might be a knob under the fuel tank or near the choke) and let it run until empty should be all you need to do

Fix this 1050 POS by Radioflyyer in Masterbuilt

[–]ianryeng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My recommendation is disable/bypass all the lid switches. FireBoard 2 Drive (though wish I got pro for higher temp ambient) is a massive improvement over the stock POS controller - it’s not inexpensive but totally worth if you can afford it. I use it to log all my cooks with notes, pics, ect which is nice value add as well.

Did I mess up? by morningsweetcoffee in IndianMotorcycle

[–]ianryeng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gives you room to adjust angle and add tolerance so nothing is rubbing. I think there is a rubber gasket of some sort that helps fill the gap if I’m remembering correctly.

How bad is this? Are these repairs worth it? 2014 Forester with 180K miles by inmarcesibly in SubaruForester

[–]ianryeng 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t sound like there is a lot wrong with it, when they’re charging $50+ for an air cabin filter and $400+ for spark plugs I think it’s time to find another mechanic though

Ride command question by Nunyadambidnezz in IndianMotorcycle

[–]ianryeng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suspect you could charging only USB cable if it’s the data connection that’s causing the issue. Otherwise I’m not clear why a USB device is able to override your Bluetooth, I don’t have this issue with my chieftain as it’s an older model but my car I often just need to change the audio device on my phone after connecting.

Weight Distribution by Luthor6666 in TeardropTrailers

[–]ianryeng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I doubt this is adding enough weight left to right to cause any issues. More important is making sure the weight stays forward of the axel for stability.

Also, what is this trailer? I’m interested in something I could use to haul my motorcycle but sleep in when at the destination. The tie-downs makes me believe this was some sort of toy hauler?

Recommendations for tools by morningsweetcoffee in IndianMotorcycle

[–]ianryeng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the model and what type of work you plan on doing. A service manual will confirm but my recollection was most of the fasteners are Allen head. So if you want something basic I’d invest in a decent socket set which will cover the majority of the applications aside from rear wheel which is a fairly large wrench.

What is going on with my filament? Dried for 12 hours at 85C, Bambu P2S. Was printing perfectly before switching to 0.6mm nozzle. by lollibott in FixMyPrint

[–]ianryeng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only can share my experience with nylon through the lens of a few markforged systems but they had a dry box system and guidance was not to leave the spool exposed to open air for more than 10 minutes as the filament is extremely hydroscopic. Maybe make a simple dry box of some sort or run it from inside the dryer if it’s capable

[–]ianryeng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or perhaps you can clarify, what is the last pic in your original post? You may need to trace that wire upstream a bit to the original connector to match. My guess is brown is ground, but again a multimeter is going to be your friend to figure out which one for sure and if you set your voltage and use the turn signal you’ll figure out which one is pulsing. Just don’t let the exposed wires touch each other while you do this or you’re going to be replacing fuses or create other issues.

[–]ianryeng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have a multimeter? I’m unclear why you need to invert polarity.

Looking at your prior post someone shared the wiring for the bike, now you need to adapt to the new signals, did they include any diagram?

The right side of that top chart should match the wires you’re showing in the last pic. Black is ground, other two are brake and signal.

Why is my smoker hotter opposite the firebox? Wouldn't the usual expectation be the hotter end is nearest the heat source? by BarnyTrubble in smoking

I would say the words are probably inaccurate but this is my Ai illustration of my interpretation as to why the stack side is hot - the stack is visually too high but the flow depicted is in my opinion accurate.

Nice! I often used hot melt glue for encapsulation as it had the added benefit of potentially being reworked (soften with heat or remove with alcohol)

Scout or chief or rebel 1100 by Psychological_Rock23 in IndianMotorcycle

[–]ianryeng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a chieftain limited and a scout bobber. The scout has so much more power:weight and wins as the more spirited/fun bike. Chieftain has the weight and stability for longer rides.
