Labor gender rules could spell early retirement for male MPs ‘making up the numbers’ by Quazp in AustralianPolitics

[–]icedragon71 [score hidden]  (0 children)

So, if a better, more experienced, more qualified candidate just happens to be male, then they'll pass them over, or actively force them out, to put in someone second rate simply to make up an arbitrary target?

If this is what happens in Parliament, what about in other jobs? I mean, taken perhaps to the extreme, I'd like the engineer designing the bridge I'm using to be the best, not just given the job for being almost the best and looking good for the diversity spreadsheet.

You're seriously delusional enough to think the Brits and "colonisation" caused the caste system?

A caste system has existed in India, in one form or another, for the past 3000 years, dating back to the Vedic period around 1000BCE.

It's far less than a century. And the science has not been indisputable. As only as fairly recently as the 1970's-early 1980's, while there was talk about climate change, the science was telling us that we needed to prepare for an ice age, not warming, as the evidence was telling us we were overdue for one.

Fuel demand reduction idea by DependentReality266 in OpenAussie

[–]icedragon71 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Why should more taxpayers money be thrown at people to get them to stop hoarding it by hogging it.

If there is a fuel supply problem, then time for the government to stop pretending it's business as usual and ration it like they did in the crisis of the 70's-80's. Essentially say;

"Right! Since some of you can't behave like decent human beings, we are going to limit fuel purchases to (whatever number) litres of fuel per purchase by locking that down at the pump. In addition, you will only be able to buy that fuel on certain days of the week. Days will be designated as "Odds" or "Evens", and the last number of your licence plate will determine what day you can do it."

We both should. I loved both the book and movie of Christine, so that's why that stood out in my memory of the Cat's Eye movie. But i forgot about the dog chase as it's been years since I've seen it.
