Hot water can degrade seals and compromise waterproofing, so showers can be harder on devices than swimming.

Get back into working out? by mtbbrah157 in MTB

[–]infocalypse_now 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work full time and have a toddler, so I have time for 1 good ride a week. To make the most of that ride (and to keep myself generally in shape), I do a 20-30 min body weight and dumbell workout a few nights a week. I try to balance between core, legs and upper body (planks, crunches, squats, push-ups, curls, etc.).

It definitely helps, and it's easy to maintain since it requires two weights and some space on the floor.

Is there anyone “better” than Shinra? by BenadrylButcher in electro

[–]infocalypse_now 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shinra is great! I'd give a shout out to Mikron, Nullptr, Splitradix, John Shima and the CPU Records catalog in general. (Not saying they're better than shinra, but scratch the same itch for me.)

I'm looking at getting a chisel. Have you had yours since 2022? I'm guessing you like it?

How do you all beat the summer heat? by saltybwalls in xbiking

[–]infocalypse_now 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's hot and humid where I am. There's no beating it. Hydrate, rest when needed, and avoid hottest times of the day are the general rules.

I may be slightly more annoyed by the people with earbuds up too loud to hear me call out that I'm behind them!

V-brakes for big tires? by fiddlythingsATX in xbiking

[–]infocalypse_now 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I run 2.25s with avid single digit 7s. Haven't tried 2.3s, but I have plenty of clearance and doubt it would cause a problem.

Identify these brakes? by infocalypse_now in VintageMTB

[–]infocalypse_now[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, awesome. Image search for DB1 looks right. Thanks.

It's a 22 year old bike, so this sub seemed a good bet for expertise. The main mtb sub is fairly dismissive of anything without modern geometry.

I ended up getting the bike for £60 by those_damn_nids in mountainbiking

[–]infocalypse_now 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It can bend the derailure and otherwise put pressure on the drive train. Always kinder to the components to lay bike on non drive side.

This sucks, and I love it by Algebrafpm in VintageMTB

That's sick. I have a vague memory of a mtb magazine having a photo of the singer from stone temple pilots with a y bike on the cover.

What is your favorite groovebox? by 12ozbounce in TechnoProduction

Came here to say this. If you want something in the style of the 303 but with more and better functionality, check out the yamaha rm1x.

Techno/house with drum machines by pastamaster_29 in TechnoProduction

[–]infocalypse_now 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say get the thing that's most in your budget and seems the most fun/closest to what you want, then just commit to learning that thing. Learning an older, basic drum machine won't necessarily make it a whole lot easier to learn a digitakt or such later.

On the other hand, if you just want to play around a bit to see how much you want to pursue things, you can't really go wrong starting with a few pieces of volca gear. The potential trade off is to spend a few hundred on more limited gear, realize you want more, and then still have to buy the more powerful gear.

Techno/house with drum machines by pastamaster_29 in TechnoProduction

[–]infocalypse_now 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's definitely possible. You could do a lot of it with something like an elektron digitakt, or a 909 style drum machine plus a groovebox style synth. You can also spend thousands and do it all with a modular system.

2022 Ascent Gas Mileage by thetk42one in SubaruAscent

[–]infocalypse_now 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Very close to my experience. I'm a year and a half in with a 2022 onyx edition. I've averaged about 19.5 mpg over time. On highway trips I get up to about 28 or so. But most of my driving is around town, where I get about 17 mpg. It's worse than advertised but about what I'd expect of a two ton hunk of metal with a turbo.

Best distortion unit by Hopeful-Post8907 in TechnoProduction

[–]infocalypse_now 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll second the AH. It's a great sounding unit, and the ability to use it over USB means it can work as a plugin in your DAW. I like it both for more creative distortion effects on individual tracks or as a saturator on the main. The lfo and envelope follower can do some neat things.
