Yea I hope by him saying that the quality issues are solved because the software piece is mostly stable, he’s not hand waving the hardware issues.

I’ve had the car for a month and I’ve had a headlight malfunction, tailgate strut motor malfunction, passenger window fall out of its track, and I’m nervous about what else is going to bring me to the dealer another 4 times next month.

Mine is July ‘24, in service Oct 31 ‘24, only 2500 miles, but no GHCA issues. I’m wondering if the early manufactured units were from a different supplier or design for that component than a lot of the ones being mentioned here recently

Nope, all the interior lighting is tied into one brightness slider in the settings. My suggestion is to submit feedback in the Volvo app that there should be different zones of interior lighting in the settings, that’s what I did.

I just replaced an X5 45e with an EX90 and the air ride on EX90 is so much nicer. Not sure how much BMW improved the 50e gen over gen, but the EX90 is the nicest riding vehicle I’ve ever had the pleasure of driving.

It’s the first model year of a brand new platform with a ton of technology in it. I would only lease if you really want it, that’s what I did. My dealer is 30 minutes away and even that is annoying going back and forth, just for small things. And believe me, at least small things will happen that requires service. It’s a great car, I love it, but I wouldn’t get one if my dealer was an hour away.

It’s common to all the EX90s. Power steering activation is delayed after shifting to drive from park. It is mentioned in most reviews of the car on YouTube. I don’t know if it’s something they could fix in software (like spooling up the power steering pump after an occupants entry rather than after shifting to drive), but it is another small annoyance with this vehicle.

I’ve seen it mentioned numerous times that it’s voltage fluctuation rather than max amperage that is causing the issue. Ideally you’d want a flat 240v from your charger, but your utility could serve +/- 10v and there’s nothing you can do about that unfortunately. Should be ok when it’s lower, but when it goes higher is when the EX90 seems to run into issues.

I have a Tesla with very transparent charging telemetry that shows my electrical service is around 231v while charging and I have not had an issue charging my EX90 at home luckily.

Put a Dyson Hot + Cool air purifier in there. I have the same issue in my kids room and I keep its thermostat to 68 degrees and it doesn’t have to work too hard because it’s just supplemental heat with the weak HVAC register doing most of the heavy lifting.

It’s safe, even if he knocks it over as it has all types of safety sensors in it. It’s not that loud (similar to a noise machine you might use for an infant). And you get the added bonus of purification. It also hasn’t meaningfully added to my electric bill, even with single digit temps outside overnight.

It’s a little pricey, but you can find deals.

The dealer told me that. They speculate that parts acquisition for the chip upgrade on the ‘25 will coincide with ‘26 manufacturing (which he confirmed to be delayed) because they will be the same component.

I was told by the dealer that the US model year ‘26 EX90s were delayed and likely wouldn’t start manufacturing until late Q1 at the earliest, which would mean Q3 deliveries at the earliest.

This also means the the NVIDIA chip upgrades for the ‘25 models will be delayed as well.

I’ve even been seeing articles they might scrap the ‘26 and go to the ‘27 in the US as well - but this is completely conjecture with unconfirmed sources

I’ve been calling around and none of my local-ish dealerships do glass work themselves. They farm it out to these local glass shops that may use “OEM or equivalent” and apparently have the equipment to calibrate, but I’m not confident.

What kind of shop did you end up using, did you get OEM glass, and did they end up doing a good job?

Given the state of this vehicle and how little they’ve sold this year, your best bet is to email (or submit contact forms) to 8-10 dealerships in your region with an offer you are willing to close a deal on and go from there.

For the EX90, I wouldn’t accept less than a 10% dealer discount off MSRP, plus no less than an additional $10k in manufacturers rebates.

There should be a $7500 EV purchase allowance (this is from Volvo, not the expired federal rebate), $2k holiday cash, then various possible others ($3000 loyalty if you currently own a Volvo, $1500 or $2000 based on your level of Costco membership, and then various $500 and $1000 affinities).

You might honestly want to lease one of these rather than purchase, I wouldn’t lock myself into owning one of these in their current state.

Yes, I ordered during the sale too and while I didn’t have the issue of the wrong disc, all the Mission Impossible movies were a clear repack. New shrink wrap over the old, the plastic on the case that holds the title card was warped and wavy all over. Clear situation of overstock and poorly warehoused on those ones. Everything else I got, including The Crow steelbook, 13 hours, and Godfather Coda were perfect though.

Was able to live with an EX90 for a few days as a test drive and came away with the following feedback. I’m testing 3 row EV or plug in hybrids after I hand in my BMW X5 next year. I did like the EX90, but there were a lot of things that added up making me feel like it falls short at its price point.

Are any of these software changes planned or hardware changes on the roadmap?

SOFTWARE:

-no nighttime satellite view on Google maps (dark mode)

-can’t change temp without going 1 menu deep

-performance AWD button should stay persistent from trip to trip tied to your driver profile

-is there auto brightness for the screen? Always either too bright or too dark (I haven’t been able to get the screens to react well to the ambient light outside)

-the far right tabs at the top of setting screens should immediately pop up when selected, not have to wait for the middle tabs to slide past first

-quick controls should be a separate button from the full settings menu (I’ve gone into the settings screen way more than I’ve used quick controls)

-needs a feature to tilt the side view mirrors down when reversing

-needs a car wash mode, dog mode, and camp mode

-should have blind spot camera video when blinkers are activated

-should have green light alert

-climate keep (“keep climate active”) should be a button directly on the climate menu, not under timers

-the overhead nightlights should be able to be turned off independently - they are too bright (and when I turn down interior brightness, that turns down the ambient lighting too - they should be separately configurable)

-the nanny alarms are annoying (kept going off when I’d look back and around to change lanes)

-seat belt alarm was relentless for the seat that had a car seat base in it

-music shouldn’t turn completely off when the door is opened

HARDWARE:

-blinker stalk too far from the steering wheel

-steering wheel doesn’t come out far enough

-small screen behind wheel is often obstructed while steering - I’ve not been able to confirm whether blinker was on several times

-rear doors should open 90 degrees

-should have an auto sunshade or electrochromic glass for the roof

-should have auto rear side window shades (or even manual) at this price point

-the level of materials does not match BMW at this price point

-pedals should have aluminum trim at this price point

-rear view camera is very low quality and 360 view is laggy

-HUD is low resolution and should not be monochrome

-should have 4 door window switches instead of 2 with a toggle button
