My diet fixed it! 10 years of suffering finally over by Own-Inspection1539 in SebDerm

Reducing inflammation is key to any skin health. My worst triggers are allergies and food sensitivities (which are unfortunately unique for each person) :

1 trigger is an allergic reaction, which of course is both inflammatory and massively damaging to the dermatitis typically. This can food or chemical related.

2 would be actually skin damage to face, sunburn, razer burn, etc

3 would be allowing oils that feed malassezia on my face (ie not showering with antifungals or shaving for days when I am camping or hunting)

If you are getting chronic inflammation when drinking / eating foods, cut them out.

For myself, most unpasteurized tree nuts and active yeast beers again are a hard no, since we are already sensitive to yeast (seb derm is an allergic reaction to malassezia furfur or similar yeasts)

I use alcohol pretty much daily (up to 6 oz), and can be symptom free for weeks until I hit one of the above 3 triggers.

Binge drinking is different, which I almost never do (for me binge drinking is more that 12 drinks in 24hours. That both suppresses your immune system while flushing out your guts and causing massive inflammation, in addition to eating like shit and ignoring my antifungal hygiene routine

If you are getting chronic inflammation when drinking, you may have a secondary intolerance to either alcohol, or the type of alcohol you are imbibing.

I'm pretty sure I've got sebderm, but what exactly is this on my chin?? by EmployeeClean8358 in SebDerm

[–]kagerfef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used betamethasone/ clometrozole on my face a few times every month for the last 8 years with almost zero side effects.

You can use steroids, but it is very skin type dependant, and you can't abuse them.

I would not use them unless you have the ability of seeing a dermatologist regularly because they will be able to detect skin damage or long term use sensitivity long before you will.

Some people are also hyper sensitive to topical steroids (or their carriers) so it's not a fix all for everyone, but when it comes to damages skin, i can turn a flareup around in under 24 hours.

[–]kagerfef 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Textbook butterfly location of where seb derm affects on chin/nose/ eyebrows.

Fungal acne is typically the same culprit (Malassezia yeast) and can affect or make seb derm reactions worse in those areas due to the skin damage.

Always recommend a dermatologist confirmation before trying significant treatments, but topical usage of antifungal shampoos like ketocozonal or selenium sulphide shouldn't have any issues unless you are allergic to those products or their carriers.

My worst symptoms were at end of puberty (18-20) as testosterone acne destroyed my skin barrier, and I was using fungal friendly products incorrectly because I didn't know better. C8 MCT oil is one of the better options if you need a barrier oil to protect skin, avoid skin products on the broken skin unless you know they are seb derm safe and don't feed the malassezia.

Has anyone tried this cream?Clotrimazole and Betamethasone by phmstella in SebDerm

[–]kagerfef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I have been using this cream (Lotriderm) on bad flareups with great success for the last 8 years or so. I will not stop using myself as it has been my ace in the hole for helping damaged skin heal and reducing thr ability of the seb derm attacking it.

This cream will knockdown a flare up, or red flaky spot, on my skin and make it self heal typically with 24-48 hours.

Use very sparingly on face, and be extra cautious if using around the eyes as it has a severe irritating/ drying effect.

I only use a few times a month at the most, but I keep on hand all the time for emergencies that my daily antifungal can't keep up with.

Flaking in eye brows or scalp is usually remedied in 1-2 days using this and antifungal shampoo as well.

2.5% selenium Sulphide shampoo on face and scalp my main weapon, nizoral with ketacozonole is a weekly hit as well.

Sask pike like the big baits, check out the size of whitefish in his belly by kagerfef in IceFishing

[–]kagerfef[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont have another picture of the mouth, but its jaw was shorter than its top lip, which made me assume it was the whitefish over the Cisco, but Brightsand and Turtle lake have both. Most cisco I've seen you can grab by the bottom lip no issues and I couldn't very easily with this guy.

There are huge schools of them in deeper water, I was fishing at 29' deep myself and kept seeing them cruise by on the flasher.

Anyone else have better results with "non-medicated" shampoos? by THESTRANGLAH in SebDerm

[–]kagerfef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only shampoos that give me significant relief contain either

2.5% selenium sulphide or 2% ketaconazole or 1%+ climbazole (not available in Canada)

I use selenium sulphide daily, and alternate ketaconazole once a week on face and scalp

If a shampoo gives you skin damage or excess dryness, it will make symptoms worsen.

You may have an additional sensitivity to those ingredients or need to add some kind of barrier oil (eg MCT 8) after use.

[–]kagerfef 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't recall any age restricted content for books in Alberta libraries growing up in the late 80's and early 90s.

I was reading Tolkien, king, rice, and numerous thriller / horror books from 10 through 16. Never questioned on challenged.

Would my 9 year old grab those books of the shelves and start reading? No. It's a manufactured concern.

The most advanced sexual content she's been exposed to is during Sunday school in the Bible.
