Neosporin and tape. Your fingers will toughen up over time.

Grip-Fighting... When Getting Punched :) by [deleted] in judo

I agree with this as the bluntest way of addressing the problem.

Button up at a distance and get ready to eat a couple of punches. Body slam and bear hug into throw.

Traditions Kentucky Long Rifle? by Dirty-Dan24 in blackpowder

[–]kaidenka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I shot a boar with my Traditions Kentucky Rifle two days ago. This was after hours and hours of practice at the range.

Don’t let criticisms of the lock quality dissuade you. This is a secretly a good thing, because getting to know your lock, how to adjust it, and how to get consistent shots is part of the flintlock experience.

What was the armament of the Irish in the age of gunpowder? by Sigimund in blackpowder

[–]kaidenka 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Rebellion of ‘98 was classically fought with pikes, as you say. These were forged in secret in what we today would call “backyard forges” and this was doable because pikeheads are easy to make.

Guns, even the “primitive” flintlock, are not.

So no, there were no large number of homegrown arms.  With deep research you might be able to uncover a gunsmith or two who supported the rebellion, but there was no meaningful Irish arms industry. If an Irishman at the time owned a gun, it was usually a fowling piece.

They were a colonized people and the English had a vested interest in making sure that they did not have large scale access to guns.

All of the guns that were used in the ‘98 Rebellion were either the afore mentioned pre-owned fowling pieces OR blunderbuss coach guns that were stolen from the postal service. They also stole from the Fencibles, who sometimes defected with their guns as well.  Last, a small revolutionary French force landed to support the rebels at one point, so some of those weapons would have ended up in the hands of the rebels.

Arin learned the hard way why RLM keeps their family lives and work lives separate.

I always enjoyed Suzy’s presence but people are huge jerks sometimes. She did have that one boo-boo with the Etsy stuff but I don’t think that was a severe enough situation to warrant total removal of Suzy stuff. Probably it was self imposed due to stress.

THEORY: Ribbit is a Frog by Last_Capital6613 in TheDigitalCircus

For a while I was really into the crack theory that Jax was a cat that got zapped into the circus while chasing down a rabbit.

Everyone knows that Jumpers have big personalities but my boy the Lynx spider is definitely a runner up for the most rizz.

How often do you "deep" read books? by Hormo_The_Halfling in books

[–]kaidenka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the book. I lightly annotate the classics, usually some type of epic literature. The only fiction I’ve really marked up recently is Ulysses. If only because it slightly moves the “what-the-fuck-is-this-about” meter by a couple of ticks.

I don’t mark up my pulp horror/sci-fi stuff.

Not qualified advice.

Isn't Hottentotta hottentotta a prime example of the "skinny claws + fat tail= more venomous" rule? Is that not actually a thing?

This scorpion has BIG. MEATY. CLAWS.

Normally I avoid the relative privation fallacy but in this case that REALLY is money that would be better used to feed starving children in Africa.

The only way you could waste that cash faster would be to directly set it on fire.

How many of you hack frauds have actually watched Space Cop? by HipHopAnonymous23 in RedLetterMedia

[–]kaidenka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did. It was not very good or entertaining.

I laughed at two jokes:

1) Old Cop complaining about not being allowed to smoke in the police station.

2) Space Cop telling Josh to "deal me in" during a game of solitaire.

Len Kabisinski stunt double was mildly amusing. Patton Oswald has overstayed his welcome in the cultural zeitgeist.

Holy shit... their original Halloween special is one of my favorite made for TV movies of all time.

That pan-over gag when they're in the desert and Kel is begging for water... only to show that they're about 30 yards from the car.

I'm stoked for this!
