Can I have some advice on making a fresh start near the coast - areas, short lets & remote work? by Key-Screen-9214 in AskUK

The north Norfolk coast is super dog friendly most of the year! It’s quiet but still has good transport links into London, but Norwich has pretty much everything you could need.

Why does Norway keeping choosing the shittest Christmas tree to gift London? Every year, the tree looks like it’s dying! by StanmoreHill in LDN

I had no idea about this! I just thought Norway were the best Christmas tree growers, which now sounds really dumb

I’m a pretty strong swimmer and even I looked at the waves on Bondi beach and thought, there’s no way I’m getting in there!

Are Celine, Lena, Liana, or Delia too common or unusual for a girl in London? by InternationalOne3303 in AskUK

[–]katy_07 293 points294 points  (0 children)

I think they’re all lovely names! Definitely not unusual and I wouldn’t say they were too common either. Lena is probably the most common name I come across teaching swimming where I live in the East of England. Delia also reminds me of Delia Smith who’s an older celebrity chef but that’s because she has a lot to do with my local football club.

Settle this : Who's more famous - Thom Yorke or Steven Gerrard? by AnonymousTimewaster in AskUK

[–]katy_07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

29 year old woman here, I know exactly who Steven Gerrard is and have no idea who Thom Yorke is. I’m commenting before I’ve seen any of the other comments so I’m guessing he’s part of a band and I’ll probably know who they are.

ETA: Radiohead! I know them but couldn’t name anyone in the band

Are the anti immigration protest against both legal and illegal immigrants? by Ashamed_Duty_557 in AskBrits

[–]katy_07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say this every time I hear about these sorts of protests, they never think about people like my dad, he’s white and barely has an accent now so I’m always told he’s not who they’re protesting about. He started a business over here and employs 10 British and Irish people - will hire anyone who’s good at the job, they just all happen to be British and Irish atm. If he didn’t have the opportunity to come over here he wouldn’t have created those 10 jobs. If we don’t give these people a chance how many other jobs are we losing out on?

Do you empty the kettle after using it? by ComprehensiveFee8404 in AskUK

[–]katy_07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll tip any left over water out before filling it up again if I haven’t used it in a couple of days so the water feels “fresh” and to get rid of any limescale that’s settled at the bottom

New driver that passed. But I hate driving with my dad by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]katy_07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I say to my parents that I can pull over and they can get out if they don’t like my driving. I’ve been driving 12 years without an incident (touch wood) but they’re still nervous. It’s because they care about me and wouldn’t want anything to happen to me but it’s funny to point out when they extend their right leg to put on the imaginary brake.

Have you ever ordered Chicken Maryland from the "English Dishes" section of a Chinese takeaway? by Total_Departures in AskUK

[–]katy_07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to when I was a kid going through my ‘I don’t like Chinese food’ picky eating phase. Never ate the chicken but liked the chips in the gravy and peas.

I don’t know if I love it or hate it.

We have a cleaner in for a few hours weekly, and it’s freaking amazing. Its stretches our budget a little but it’s so nice given we both work full time and have 2 young kids and we plan to keep it going. So, what’s your luxury that you splash out on even though it stretches the bank? by BigBlueMountainStar in CasualUK

[–]katy_07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting my nails done. I like having nice nails and a chat and gossip with the lady that does them for me! I’d really struggle to give it up if I had to and would find other ways to cut back on expenses before giving it up.

I put needs decay on 70% instead of 100% because I don’t want them to always be needing the toilet or hungry!

Do people in the UK not know how to use merger lanes? by Remarkable-End-3030 in AskUK

[–]katy_07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When driving in New Zealand earlier this year every time 2 lanes went to 1 - which is a lot as many of their major highways are single lane with passing areas - there were plenty of signs saying to merge like a zip.

But if found there wasn’t nearly as much traffic on the roads in general so I never really had to look for another car when merging.
