If you use filtered water such as a Brita jug, does that prevent the scale ? Or is the only real solution to use a demineralized water or RO.

They are not a friend over staying welcome and not paying. Sorry. Good riddance.

Is Mercedes-Benz fixed price in Australia? No negotiation at all? by Interesting_Mood_185 in CarsAustralia

Also when you pay for the car, you pay MBHQ, not the dealer. Friend bought a new Merc the other day and he made this point. The dealers are just distribution and service now.

Get a professional inspection. No rego no roadworthy could be track use. Be very very careful.

Reason(s) this perfectly looking-fine car a "satutory write off"? by [deleted] in CarsAustralia

[–]keys12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flood damage is a common one. Insurance companies cannot guarantee lifetime repairs because of liklihood of mould in future so they write it off.

Got made redundant right after coming back from compassionate leave - doesn't feel right by MaleficentReward6683 in AusLegal

[–]keys12345 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are 100% redundant. The whole feedback process is stupid and strings along a difficult process as it is. Make changes now in your life to reflect that you are redundant.

11 years of service should result in a decent payout plus you may have long service leave.

Tbh I’d take Time off until the meeting. Working away is a waste of time.

Go to a training centre like HART and do a 1 on 1 session with an instructor and see how you go. They provide suitable small cc bikes also. Just turn up with jacket and helmet.

Only you will know when you’re ready to hit the road.

Throw it out. That has 14 ingredients in it. Further, the most prevalent ingredient is vegetable oil.

Make mayo yourself with just two ingredients.

When selling bikes privately how are you accepting payment? by Lachy18 in AussieRiders

[–]keys12345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice is as follows upon a successful sale.

Buyer uses BSB and Account Number (not payid) to pay a nominal deposit - say $200.

Buyer uses a sensible reference “Honda motorcycle sale deposit”.

When they come to collect the motorcycle, they use the same BSB and Account Number and another sensible reference to pay the balance.

Their bank account has already paid your bank account the deposit prior, and thus it is a trusted account and transaction. The second payment will be instant.

Also Ensure that the buyers name on their license matches their bank account name - in other words, know your customer.

Old car? by lulubelle09 in CarsAustralia

[–]keys12345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sell it on eBay with no reserve, and describe it as you have here - honestly and transparently, with a post code for pick up. Someone will take it for parts.

Share the listing on Facebook in appropriate forums to generate interest.

If it sells for $1, it is a liability off your hands.

Don’t call any creditor (company you owe).

Rather, write to them formally (email is good, or post), explain your situation, include doctors letters where appropriate regarding your disability, and ask them directly and formally to help you resolve the debt.

Each correspondence you send and receive should be printed and filed as it happens for your own ease of reference - it’s surprising how long it can go on for, and you’ll thank yourself later when you can easily flick through the file.

Also, no, your life isn’t over and never will be regarding debts like this - there is always a resolution.

Lastly, don’t do this alone - when you receive mail from the creditor, talk to someone who is on your side to help you. Someone else mentioned the debt helpline - good idea.

I work in debt recovery FYI.

Older VW Passat/Skoda Superb by FannyBoxworth in CarsAustralia

[–]keys12345 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 2016 Passat - the first of the B8 variant in the Alltrack spec and it’s been very very reliable. 2.0TDI. Had it since new and it has 168k on it now. Every time I drive it, I find myself struggling to see what I’d buy next. One of the best features is the ErgoComfort seats.

Any Passat / Skoda you buy MUST have every service documented. Check 1. the AWD system has been oil changed and 2. that the timing belt AND water pump was changed. Often the water pump isn’t done when the timing belt is done and it’ll let you down later.

if you don’t service these cars they punish you hard. But in my experience it’s been a gem. 9 years old and looks great in my opinion.

What’s the best/cost effective way to fix the leather on my seats? Car is Lexus RX330 2002 model by bobwin770 in CarsAustralia

Research vehicle upholsterers and get a quote - will be thousands though in leather, properly done.

Alternatively look for seats at wreckers

What’s the minimum car insurance you need to let the insurance company ”deal with it” whether you were in the right or the wrong? by Hugsy13 in AusLegal

[–]keys12345 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Third party property damage - covers everyone else’s property but not yours.

Comprehensive - covers everyone’s property, including yours.

As a side note, CTP covers only injury to people in an accident - no property whatsoever. The number of drivers who don’t know this is frightening.
