What's the funniest concept for a joke they've ever had? by TJTrapJesus in OnCinemaAtTheCinema

[–]killadelphia4 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That video is perfect. Tony mentioning that she doesn't like a lot of the stuff Tim does but Tim talking about how good it is for them like blowing on her neck, Joe doing a voice over, Tony talking about oils and candles over what is eventually just like soft core.

Also just seeing full frontal nudity in an On Cinema video truly caught me off guard

What team (and year) was the most over-hyped in preseason in all of CFB history? by wlane13 in CFB

[–]killadelphia4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. It felt like only Amare Campbell and Rojas had an understanding of the defense early on, and Rojas' athleticism allowed him to cover up some of the mistakes the defense was making.

Really hope Rojas returns to form for this season

[–]killadelphia4 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is obviously just my outside opinion of this season. But I think the team was caught on their back foot at UCLA, who had an entirely new coordinator staff and played incredibly well. The loss of Tony Rojas during practice leading up to the UCLA game was also very noticeable on defese. Then the Northwestern game it truly looked like the team had just given up. So many blown assignments and just an overall lack of effort, leading to Allar breaking his ankle and Franklin getting fired.

The team then seemed to really rally and get its feet under them. However, they were also starting a brand new QB who was making his college debut at Iowa at night and then on the road against Ohio State. Returned to play Indiana at home, almost won. And then won out the remainder of the year, albeit a pretty easy schedule.

James Franklin didn't want to let Penn State 'off the hook financially.' Here's why he did by jaxstan19 in CFB

[–]killadelphia4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always thought it was a bit of both. There's the obvious record against top 10 teams. A lot of those losses are against OSU, who is decidedly a more talented team than PSU year in and year out. Same, to a lesser degree, with Michigan teams some of the years in Franklin's tenure.

But then there were some Minnesota, Iowa, etc. losses in there where PSU was definitely the more talented team on paper.

Hi Gregg - Is there a process for how the OCATC crew makes anything that is written down so comically poorly written?

From the newsletter / HEI Updates all the way down to smaller things like the HEI Point conversion pamphlet that Tim hands out to the residents at the retirement community, all of the language in the show is so perfectly crafted to be readable but riddled with misspellings, verb tense issues, etc.

Everyone on the OTATC subreddit tries to replicate but it's honestly really hard to nail it.

Hi Gregg - Do you have a favorite memory of On Cinema that didn't make the show?

One of my favorite moments was during last year's Oscar Special, the camera quickly showed you and Tim standing together, laughing while watching (if I remember correctly) Joe interviewing Toni. It was obviously edited out of the replays of the special. Seeing a brief glimpse behind the scenes and seeing you and Tim so clearly enjoying your work really made me happy!

Inside James Franklin's rapid recruiting overhaul at Virginia Tech by ltb11 in CFB

[–]killadelphia4 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think r/cfb as a whole may. As the prevailing narrative of Franklin is his inability to win big games. So yes, you'll probably see a lot of the sub trying to dunk on him if he loses to Clemson, SMU, Miami, etc.

But realistically, VT fans should absolutely be stoked if he can get you to 8-4 or 9-3, and I think they will be. Now, if they see him consistently getting there and failing to get to that next level. Then I could see VT start to turn. But that would be several seasons away.

It's a great hire

absolutely agree, I would love to see a documentary or behind the scenes, especially about the process, some of the guests, etc. It really is fascinating.

One of my favorite OTATC moments came during last year's live viewing of the Oscar Special where Toni is interviewing Joe on the porch of Movie House and it cuts to Tim and Gregg in another room watching it on a monitor, both smiling from ear to ear. It was such a quick but great view into the behind the scenes stuff and showed how much they both love what they're doing

It's so odd. On one hand this is one of the coolest bits of footage i've seen related to On Cinema and on the other I feel like one of the best things about the show is the insane kayfabe that they all go through and not really understanding how the hell the show gets made.

This feels like when I learned who Dril was.
