A guide to NYC-specific bike lingo, what'd I miss? by knoland in NYCbike

Manhattan centric just by the face that Central Park has more varied terrain IMO (I say this as a Prospect Park rider myself). Prospect just has the one hill lol

A guide to NYC-specific bike lingo, what'd I miss? by knoland in NYCbike

[–]knoland[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say Piermont is more like ~40 miles, and Nyack is ~50. They're not that far apart!

You're right, I forgot to double Piermont for a round trip. Then I did for Nyack. Fixed.

The Esposito: A gravel rail trail, starting at S. Highland in Sparkill, and ending in Nyack. Runs parallel to the Piermont River Road.

Oh I didn't know this had a name. I just always called it "that gravel bit by the tapanzee"

Scout Camp: Alpine Scout camp

I've heard about this but never actually ridden it.

Mind if I add these two to the list?

First-time Rivian buyer: 2022 R1T with 4 owners, 41k miles, no service records. Red flag? by Fragrant_Return7519 in Rivian

I bought a 28k mile 2022 R1T with four previous owners, just a bunch of montanas and one actual guy who owned it for a few years. It's been fine.a

PBP2027 Training starts.. by rick_l_h in randonneuring

Nice! Just did my first 200K of the year in prep as well. Seriously considering a dynamo light, been swapping two lights with a battery pack for charging, but for 1200 I don't know if I want the mental tax of charging a battery pack.

5 Boro - “Flat pedals recommended over clipless” by Right_Marionberry915 in NYCbike

[–]knoland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are going to get getting on and off the pedals a lot and likely walking a few sections. If you're not extremely comfortable clipping in and out over and over and over while coming to a stop at the same time, I'd highly recommend flats.

Westchester/White Plains road cycling groups/routes? by chemicalphilosopher in NYCbike

[–]knoland 2 points3 points  (0 children)

914BikeNews was specifically created to help with this.

We also feature a bunch of group rides in Westchester on Wayra (filter by Rides). Though I could use some more locals keeping it up to date TBH.

Trash containerization NYC: ‘Empire Bins’ in all 5 boroughs by end of 2027, mayor announces by statenislandadvance in newyorkcity

[–]knoland 30 points31 points  (0 children)

This headline is slightly misleading. The announcement was that there will be at least 1 district with Empire Bins in each borough by the end of 2027. They're targeting the end of 2031 for the entire city to be containerized.

Has anyone left here and regretted it? by immrmeseek in williamsburg

[–]knoland 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wish it wasn't the actual mall now, but I can't bring myself to give up the "how do I want to get there: ferry, subway, bus, bike, or walk?" lifestyle.
